Chapter 217: Someone in the Heart, Unbeknownst to Him

“Do you have to speak like this?” Lin Weiwei’s expression showed hurt, mixed with a hint of resentment. “Forceful, no mercy.”
“I thought I was speaking the truth,” Xie Dingyuan replied with a cold expression.
“Have you never liked anyone?” Lin Weiwei’s eyes flickered slightly.
“Sorry, that’s my privacy,” the man replied, his expression still cold.
“Then… do you have someone you like now?” Lin Weiwei asked, her patience wearing thin.
Xie Dingyuan frowned, growing impatient.
“If you didn’t, why would you consider giving us a try? Maybe as we spend time together, you’ll gradually discover my good qualities and eventually come to like me…”
“I’ve tried, and it didn’t work,” he interrupted.
He had been absolutely certain of this from their first meeting. That’s why he immediately drew a clear boundary, to avoid getting too involved.
“Isn’t it too early for you to draw conclusions? You haven’t even gone through the experimental process. This doesn’t seem like the style of a scientist,” Lin Weiwei retorted.
“For me, conclusions come first, and experiments only exist to support those conclusions. Data and processes are just for outsiders to see. As for the actual situation, no one knows better than I do,” Xie Dingyuan replied coldly.
“But not all rules can be analyzed through research!” Lin Weiwei’s eyes reddened. “Love is not an experiment, and relationships are not as simple as drawing conclusions.”
“But I think this topic isn’t suitable for discussion right now,” Xie Dingyuan cut her off.
“Heh… Senior, you could just say it directly, you’re annoyed by me, and you’re annoyed by what I’m saying!” Lin Weiwei snapped.
“Fine,” Xie Dingyuan nodded. “Then I’ll say it directly: I don’t like you, I feel nothing towards you. Even if I were to analyze the rules of love, I wouldn’t choose you as the subject of my experiment. Is that direct enough?”
Lin Weiwei took two steps back, trembling with anger. “You… you’re… too much…”
The man frowned. “Didn’t you ask me to speak directly? Why are you shouting ‘too much’ now?”
He couldn’t understand women, so he’d rather stay away from such creatures. Wasn’t it better to spend his time conducting more experiments?
Lin Weiwei stared at him as if he were a monster. “If you don’t like me, then there must be a type of person you like, right? If you don’t have even the most basic likes and dislikes, then what’s the difference between you and those cold, lifeless machines in the lab?”
Likes… type of person?
Xie Dingyuan was momentarily stunned. A face flashed through his mind at lightning speed, but it was too fast to capture.
Lin Weiwei persisted with her questioning, showing no signs of relenting. “For example, eyes. Do you prefer almond-shaped eyes or phoenix eyes? What about hair? Do you like long hair or short hair? And clothing style, mannerisms…”
“Peach blossom eyes,” he interrupted.
“What?” Lin Weiwei was taken aback.
“I like peach blossom eyes,” he repeated, then added, “Long hair, preferably tied in a ponytail.”
“You…” Lin Weiwei looked at him in disbelief. “Do you already have someone you like?!”
“Why would you say that?” Xie Dingyuan’s brow furrowed.
“Peach blossom eyes, long hair, and you even went into detail about tying it in a ponytail. When you mention these things, there must be a prototype in your mind!”
Prototype…
Xie Dingyuan’s mind flashed with that face once again, but this time, he clearly saw who the other person was!
Seeing the confusion in the man’s eyes, Lin Weiwei felt like she had just swallowed a mouthful of vinegar, the sourness overwhelming.
To say he had no one he liked, yet displaying this behavior… something was definitely fishy!
“Alright! You lied to me!” Lin Weiwei exclaimed.
“Huh?” Xie Dingyuan raised an eyebrow.
“Today, you must give me an explanation! Clearly, you already have someone in your heart, so why did you come to meet me? Earlier, you said it wasn’t considered flirting, fine, I agreed; but if you already have someone you like and still agreed to meet me, then that’s flirting, that’s unfair and disrespectful to me!” Lin Weiwei continued, her frustration boiling over.
“You’re overthinking it,” the man’s tone grew heavy, a hint of coldness creeping in. “I don’t have anyone I like.”
“You do! That person must have long hair, tied in a ponytail—”
“Enough!” Xie Dingyuan coldly interrupted, his face already dark and ugly.
“So Senior, you also have a temper?” Lin Weiwei chuckled sarcastically. “Why? Did I hit the nail on the head? Are you feeling guilty? Too afraid to admit it?”
Xie Dingyuan turned away coldly, not intending to waste any more words on her.
“Huh, so you’re even afraid to admit it. I really misjudged you!” Lin Weiwei said, frustrated.
“I said, there’s no one,” the man’s tone was resolute, his back emanating an aura of rejection.
Lin Weiwei suddenly wasn’t so sure anymore. Would someone like Xie Dingyuan really put his heart into liking a woman?
His eyes were filled with lab equipment, his heart filled with research data, and his mind full of symbols and numbers.
“Xie Dingyuan! You have no heart!” With those words, Lin Weiwei turned and ran away.
The man stood still, maintaining his posture with his back turned, unmoving.
As cold and aloof as ever, isolated and proud.
Jiang Fuyue withdrew her gaze. Perhaps she had arrived at the wrong time, but from the perspective of a spectator, it seemed like the perfect timing.
With the female lead gone, the drama was almost over, and she had no reason to stay any longer.
As for those two sets of data, she could come back for them tomorrow.
For now, it was best to leave.
But in the next moment…
“What, seen enough and want to run?”

Ugh, that girl is so irritating.
Her: “Say it directly”
Him: *brutally direct for the tenth time* Her: “How do you know that’s how you feel?”
Me: WTF is wrong with you?!
