Xie Dingyuan’s expression remained stoic as he cut to the chase, “Coincidence or not, you know it in your heart.”
“…” She couldn’t follow up on that.
Seeing that the conversation was about to die out, Xie Dingyuan spoke again, “Is eavesdropping on others’ conversations fun?”
Jiang Fuyue shook her head.
“Finding amusement in others’ private matters?”
“I wouldn’t dare.”
“Five times.”
“What?” She blinked in confusion.
“You smiled five times during the whole ordeal.”
“…”
“Since you noticed early on, why didn’t you intervene?” Jiang Fuyue asked.
“I couldn’t spare the effort. Why does it sound like it’s still my fault?”
“…I didn’t mean it that way.”
Xie Dingyuan snorted, raising his chin slightly. “It’s better if not.”
“?” His tone was odd, sounding somewhat… reserved and tsundere?
“Professor Xie, my behavior today was inappropriate, you’ve reprimanded me, and warned me. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving—”
“Hold on.”
Jiang Fuyue silently retracted her leg that was about to step out, turning her head to look at him with a questioning gaze.
“Uh,” his tone softened slightly, “what do you need from me?”
Xie Dingyuan wouldn’t simply believe that Jiang Fuyue just happened to be here by chance.
If there was no reason, she probably wouldn’t even enter this building, let alone appear outside the laboratory.
“Actually, I came today to copy two sets of data. Are you available?” Jiang Fuyue asked.
Xie Dingyuan inquired, “Which machine?”
“Number 04, the infrared imager.”
“Are you sure it’s number 04?”
“Yeah, it was on shelf number 2 in the physics experiment area before. Is there a problem?”
“Uh… no problem, I just used it yesterday after bringing it from the physics experiment area.”
Jiang Fuyue’s pupils constricted. “The data inside…”
“Don’t worry, I haven’t had the chance to delete it.”
She sighed in relief. “Then, would it be convenient for me to go in and copy it now…?” wait, no!
Before she finished her sentence, she suddenly remembered the reason Xie Dingyuan used to reject the elegant woman earlier.
She was about to suggest she should come back tomorrow prepared, but suddenly—
“Convenient,” Xie Dingyuan said.
“?” Jiang Fuyue was puzzled.

“Why are you standing there? Are you going to copy it or not?”
“…Copy!”
Xie Dingyuan walked ahead, with Jiang Fuyue closely following behind.
As they reached the door, she suddenly halted. “Do I need to change into protective gear?”
The man’s back stiffened. “No, need!” His words were squeezed out between his teeth.
Five minutes later, Jiang Fuyue obtained the data. “Thank you, I’ll leave now.”
“Wait.”
“?”
“…The woman you just saw has no relationship with me.”
Jiang Fuyue looked puzzled. Why was he telling her this?
Nevertheless, given how accommodating Xie Dingyuan was today, she nodded politely. “Um, it’s normal for blind dates to fail…”
The man’s face darkened.
In a flash of realization, Jiang Fuyue understood something. She immediately assured him, “Don’t worry, I won’t say anything!”
It was about saving face for the man, no wonder Xie Dingyuan was eager to salvage the situation.
Xie Dingyuan looked at her as if to say, “You understand?” Understand my foot!
After leaving, Jiang Fuyue went straight back to the dormitory to address the reviewer’s questions and analyze the data she had just obtained in detail. She then sent her findings via email.
Meanwhile, back at the lab, the assistant who brought Xie Dingyuan his food was surprised to see him smiling faintly instead of his usual cold expression.
What happened that he didn’t know about?
Could it be…
“Professor Xie, have we got results from the experiment?!”
Without looking up, Xie Dingyuan replied, “Who told you that?”
“I guessed it! You seem to be in a good mood now. Besides the experiment being completed, I can’t think of any other reason.”
“Heh, where did you see that I’m in a good mood?”
“Both of my eyes saw it!”
“…So what good news is it?” the assistant pressed, unable to contain their curiosity.
“There isn’t any. Everything is normal.”
“Huh? Where did this coffee come from? There are even two cups… both cold. Professor, is this yours?”
“No.”
“…” Is he lying?
Unfortunately, even ghosts wouldn’t believe him.
“By the way, Professor Shen called me half an hour ago. He said his friend also wants to use Lab A1, just like the previous female student. They won’t bring a team, just use the physics area. He wanted to know your opinion?”
“Heh, do they think my lab is a free hostel? Just as one leaves, now someone else wants to come in. Tell the teacher, I disagree, absolutely not allowed!”
“Didn’t you get along quite well with that girl before? Maybe trying someone else might be even better…”
