Chapter 219: The Final Test of the Physics Competition, Shameless Behavior
<Previous Chapter<Table of Contents>Next Chapter>
Following the conclusion of the NOI training, the Physics Competition also ushered in its final group test.
“…We will calculate the comprehensive scores and rankings based on the group and individual performance, and finally determine the list of candidates for the national team. This is the final group test, and I hope everyone will take it seriously and bring a perfect end to the summer camp training!”
“Understood—”
The crowd’s spirits lifted, responding loudly.
Following the usual routine, there were five sets of papers and two hours.
Jiang Fuyue’s performance was steady. Before half of the exam time had passed, she had already completed three sets of papers in a fit of fury.
After finishing, she leaned her head on her hand, boredom evident as she glanced out the window.
What should have been a tense exam felt as relaxed to her as a casual visit.
Lin Shumo was now quite calm.
As for Ling Xuan, he was as composed as ever, not even glancing in Jiang Fuyue’s direction.
This was a skill he had mastered in Linhuai—
“If I don’t look, I won’t know; if I don’t know, I won’t panic.”
So, even if he knew, he would pretend not to.
Two hours later, the papers were collected, marking the end of the Physics Competition training.
After the announcement of tomorrow’s results and the finalization of the national team roster, there would be a closing ceremony, bringing everything to a complete end.
“Ling Xuan: “Why didn’t you submit your paper early today?”
Jiang Fuyue: “Who said I had to submit early?”
Didn’t Yan Zhenfeng say he wanted to bring a perfect end? Then her persistence until the last second without absence was perfect enough, wasn’t it?
If Yan Zhenfeng knew what she was thinking at the moment, he would probably chuckle and say, “Well, thank you! Do you need a commendation plaque?”
After some thought, Ling Xuan proposed, “After being temporary desk mates for half a month and with the training about to end, how about we have a meal together as a commemoration?”
Lin Shumo: “I’m fine with that.”
The two of them turned to look at Jiang Fuyue, waiting for her response.
Jiang Fuyue shrugged. “I’m fine with it.”
And so, the three of them, rarely seen together, left the classroom and headed towards the school gate.
Just as they exited the building, they heard someone calling from behind.
“Jiang Fuyue, wait!”
They stopped and turned around to see Ren Xinghe panting as he caught up with them.
Ling Xuan instinctively frowned.
Although they were all from Linhuai and should have looked out for each other, Ren Xinghe was not likable.
This was evident from his actions during the opening ceremony, where he instigated Huo Fanjin to target Jiang Fuyue.
Harming others without benefit to oneself, purely for a moment of wit, showed a rather malicious mindset.
Therefore, after that incident, Ling Xuan intentionally distanced himself from him.
At first, Ren Xinghe tried to initiate conversations with him, attempting to change his image. However, Ling Xuan always responded with a cold face and indifference. Over time, Ren Xinghe gradually lost patience and stopped trying to approach him.
Later, when they encountered each other on the road, they didn’t even exchange basic greetings, pretending not to see each other.
Ling Xuan understood: Ren Xinghe couldn’t make amends, so he had completely resented him.
However, this showed Ren Xinghe’s narrow-mindedness.
“What do you want?” Jiang Fuyue asked indifferently.
Her impression of this person was also not good.
Instigating Huo Fanjin to target her during the opening ceremony was one thing. Besides that, during the time he was assigned to the language class, he specifically came to ask Jiang Fuyue how to learn English.
He kept saying things like “we’re fellow townsmen, we should look out for each other.”
Unfortunately, Jiang Fuyue didn’t buy into his act.
So what if they were fellow townsmen? Did they have to look out for each other just because they were from the same place?
If that were the case, being a fellow townsman was really pitiful. Wanting to benefit from others while being unwilling to give back, letting one person reap all the benefits—where would you find such a good deal in the world?
Ling Xuan didn’t indulge him, so naturally Jiang Fuyue wouldn’t either.
Ren Xinghe rubbed his hands, glanced at Lin Shumo and Ling Xuan, then turned to Jiang Fuyue, hesitating to speak.
The implied meaning was: Can we talk somewhere without outsiders?
Jiang Fuyue pretended not to understand. “Since there’s nothing, I’ll go first.”
“Wait a minute!” he stopped her again.
Jiang Fuyue lost her patience completely. “If you have something to say, say it. If not, step aside!”
Ren Xinghe’s eyes flashed with anxiety. Ignoring Ling Xuan and Lin Shumo’s presence, he said to Jiang Fuyue, “Can I switch to your group?”
This wasn’t the first time he had expressed such a desire.
But none of the previous times were as absurd as this one, or even a bit ridiculous.
“Ren Xinghe, have you lost your mind? The training is almost over, and you want to switch groups now?”
“It’s precisely because it’s almost over that I have to switch groups!” he said loudly. “I’ve calculated the average score of our current group. There’s no way to make it into the national team. We can’t even reach the threshold.”
So he wanted to switch to Jiang Fuyue’s group, where the average score was perfect! Not only would he not drag them down, but he could also raise the overall score.
“Haha…” Jiang Fuyue burst out laughing on the spot, not intentionally, but because she couldn’t help it.
Ling Xuan’s eyes turned cold.
Even Lin Shumo couldn’t help but frown.
Not to mention whether this person’s request was reasonable, the group consisted of him, Ling Xuan, and Jiang Fuyue. Why did he only ask Jiang Fuyue?
Were he and Ling Xuan just decorations?
