After Rebirth, I Am the White Moonlight of All The Big Brothers Chapter 224

Chapter 224: He Went to the Cemetery, Moonlight in the Heart

<Previous Chapter<Table of Contents>Next Chapter>

Xie Dingyuan: “Keep causing trouble, and I’ll kick you out of the car.”

Shen Qiannan quieted down.

“Let’s go, Old Zhang.”

“Hey!”

After a while of silence, Xie Dingyuan closed his eyes as if dozing off.

Suddenly, “Old Xie, I’ve been thinking and I still feel something’s off.”

Xie Dingyuan didn’t open his eyes, calmly asking back, “When did you ever feel something was right?”

“…I’m not joking with you. Uncle Ming’s return this time is too strange…”

Xie Dingyuan abruptly opened his eyes.

Shen Qiannan continued, “Clearly, he’s supposed to be in charge at the Tingzhou test site and launch center, but he showed up in the capital before the Red 7 test explosion, which is completely illogical!”

Ming Yu had left half an hour earlier, according to Zeng Chuan, to rest.

“…But the direction the car is going doesn’t seem to be back to the city, more like heading to the outskirts. What’s he doing outside the city at this time?”

Xie Dingyuan’s eyes flashed slightly. Outskirts?

Sure enough, he had come back to see that person.

“Old Xie? I’m asking you, why are you staring into space?”

“…You’re asking me, who should I ask?”

“But you look like you’re hiding something, not like you don’t know anything.”

Shen Qiannan was a bit extravagant in character but not stupid, and he had a keen sense of observation.

“What’s really going on?”

Xie Dingyuan: “Actually, I don’t know much either. After the fallout between Ming Yu and his family years ago, he went to the Northwestern Institute for Research in a fit of anger and applied for permanent residence. He only comes back to the capital three times a year, on Mid-Autumn Festival, New Year’s Eve, and December 7th. He never steps into the Ming family’s house.”

“Mid-Autumn Festival is coming soon, and the Red 7 test explosion happens to be scheduled for that day, so he couldn’t extricate himself, which is why he came back early.”

Shen Qiannan looked puzzled, “What’s so important that he had to return to the capital at this time?”

“If I’m not mistaken, he should be on his way to the cemetery now.”

“Cemetery?!” Shen Qiannan was surprised, “Who is he paying respects to?”

Xie Dingyuan looked dazed, only opening his mouth after a while, “A legend that no one has surpassed to this day.”

Shen Qiannan wasn’t from the Eight Great Families, so he knew very little about their internal affairs, and was confused, “What legend?”

But Xie Dingyuan remained silent, turning his gaze directly out of the car window, where a bright moon hung high.

Outskirts, Rose Cemetery.

“Boss lady, a bunch of daisies, a bunch of red roses.”

The woman raised her eyebrows in surprise, seeing the familiar duck-billed cap in her line of sight. She couldn’t see the true face under the brim, but the smooth and fair chin outside was as clear as snow: “It’s you again, Miss?”

Last time, she came to buy red roses.

“Yeah.” Jiang Fuyue nodded slightly.

Tomorrow, the competition results would be announced, and for a long time after that, she probably wouldn’t come again. Taking advantage of today’s free time, she took a taxi to take a look.

The boss lady was quick, wrapping the flowers in three or two moves and handing them over, “This is the last bunch of red roses today, wish you good luck.”

“Thank you for your kind words.” Jiang Fuyue paid and picked up the flowers, then turned and left.

The boss lady watched her retreating figure and couldn’t help but sigh lightly.

“What’s wrong with you?” The boss came out from behind, holding a bundle of branches, “Sighing, not happy?”

“That girl who bought the red roses for the cemetery before is here again, every time I see her, I think of another one from twenty years ago…”

“Alright, alright, it’s been so long, are you still thinking about it? Maybe she’s already happily married with children, and has long moved out of the shadow of losing her loved ones.”

“That’s true, back then, I felt she wasn’t an ordinary person as soon as I saw her, that temperament, that gaze, extraordinary!”

“Are you done tidying up? It’s time to close the shop.”

“Hey! Right away!”

Jiang Fuyue entered the cemetery, ascending the steps all the way up, stopping in front of two tombstones.

Casually tossing down the daisies, she turned her head and carefully brushed off the dust from Zhao Chuxiu’s tombstone. Then she bent down and placed the red roses, adjusting the angle slightly.

Treating them differently, but not too obviously.

Deeper love, leaving no trace as the wind passes.

Standing in front of the tombstone, Jiang Fuyue seemed to merge with the darkness: “Mom, I found Shigong.”

“He’s still in good health, just his hair has turned much whiter, almost didn’t recognize him.”

“Still the same as before, loves playing games, teams up with elementary school kids, and complains every time he loses about how others should study hard.”

“I wanted him to stay and live with Niu Rui, but he seems reluctant and left with his little backpack.”

“Oh, by the way, I suddenly remembered yesterday, that backpack was the one you gave him back then, no wonder he’s been reluctant to change it.”

“Although he didn’t say it out loud, I know he misses you a lot. Next time I have the chance, I’ll bring him over again, okay?”

Jiang Fuyue looked at the smiling woman in the photo, “Rest assured, I will try my best to give him a home and let him enjoy his later years.”

“Oh, and I have to make sure he changes his bad habit of staying up late, what if he goes bald?”

“He even gave himself a WeChat name of ‘World’s Handsomest Old Guy’, narcissistic and arrogant, but every time he calls me ‘Little Moon’, he’s gentle and kind…”

Jiang Fuyue talked a lot, all about Ye Qianji.

She knew Zhao Chuxiu wanted to hear it.

As for herself…

Jiang Fuyue: “I won’t say it, you already know, no matter where, in what capacity, as long as I’m alive, I will definitely live my life well.”

So, rest assured, Mom…

Having said what needed to be said, Jiang Fuyue didn’t linger any longer.

As she was descending, she happened to meet two figures going up, carrying something in their hands.

As they passed by each other, she glanced lightly and discovered that the two were actually carrying a wheelchair, with a man sitting on it.

The light was too dim, the night too dark, before she could see their faces clearly, she had already passed by.

She didn’t stop, leaving the cemetery and taking a taxi away.

“Professor Ming, we’ve arrived.”

Two assistants placed the wheelchair down, the man’s eyes dull as he reached out to touch the tombstone in front of him.

Slowly descending from the top, his hand picked up some dust, but he was unaware until he touched the character “Lou”, a faint smile finally appearing on his indifferent face.

Then down, was the character “Ming”, his smile even deeper.

Finally, his fingertips brushed over that “Yue”, lingering to outline the carved lines, back and forth, repeatedly, not knowing what memories were evoked, the man’s eyes gradually softened, as if caressing a lover’s cheek.

Every corner of his eyes and brows was filled with tenderness.

“Ming Yue… I’ve come to see you…” His hoarse voice, tinged with a hint of choking sadness in the quiet night.

The two assistants glanced at each other, instinctively stepping back until they couldn’t hear any sound before standing still.

Three times a year, for twenty consecutive years, rain or shine, they had always accompanied Professor Ming here.

“Do you think our professor needs to do this? It’s been twenty years since the person left, but he still can’t forget.”

“What’s this? You didn’t see when the professor fell out with his family back then, that was truly shocking, it was like declaring war on the whole world.”

“Ah? I didn’t know about that, Brother, tell me about it.”

“It’s all in the past, what’s there to talk about? Look at the relationship between our professor and the Ming family now, you can imagine how bad it was back then.”

“But hasn’t the old head of the Ming family passed away? There’s no eternal enmity between father and son, not to mention when people die it’s like a lamp going out, what can’t be forgiven?”

“He who has not suffered, do not advise others. Our professor’s heart was broken, he will never let go…”

Unless that woman came back to life, but how could that be possible?

Talking about it, it’s always a dead end.

“So… is the professor’s wife buried here?”

“I don’t know. But one year, I heard the professor touching the name on the tombstone and saying… if you had agreed back then, we would definitely be very happy now, even if not husband and wife, we should have been lovers, right?”

“So she’s almost certainly his wife… but why did she die?”

“I don’t know about that. But I know she came from a noble background, extremely talented and stunning. The professor has said more than once that if that person were still around, there would be no place for him in the physics world.”

“Wow! So the almost-wife was so amazing? No wonder the professor is still alone for her sake.”

No wife, no home, no sons, no daughters.

“I really want to see how amazing the almost-wife was to make the professor still remember her so much. Hey, Brother, do you think this is what they call ‘White Moonlight’?”

Full of the moon in her heart and eyes, unable to see any other light, whether it’s the sun or the stars, the sky or the Milky Way.

White Moonlight is here…

Ugh, it’s heartbeaking, but I find it really sad when an author leaves side characters alone because of a great love. It’s super sweet and unrealistic, but I hate seeing them suffer alone pining for that special person. I can’t even imagine anyone loving so deeply. I certainly have never seen it in the countless people I’ve met. Everyone divorcing, cheating, changing partners like tossing out trash. It makes it hard to believe in true, unconditional love.
