Chapter 225: Discovery of Roses, Suspecting Her

What kind of demeanor?
The two couldn’t imagine.
“Hey, the professor is calling us…”
The two quickly approached, but saw that Ming Yu’s expression had already returned to normal.
“Let’s go.”
“Professor, are we leaving directly?”
Ming Yu pondered for a moment: “Since we’re here, it’s both appropriate and necessary to pay our respects to the elders.”
The two assistants exchanged glances, understanding each other’s thoughts.
Soon they carried Ming Yu to another two tombstones not far away.
“Huh?”
Ming Yu perked up at the sound, but his eyes still couldn’t focus: “What’s wrong?”
“Professor, there are two bouquets of flowers here, and they look quite fresh. However…”
Ming Yu asked, “However what?”
“It’s a bit strange. It’s the first time I’ve seen someone offering red roses.”
The man shook all over, his breathing becoming rapid, his elbows propped on the armrests, his expression excited: “Say that flower name again!”
“Ro… Roses…”
Ming Yu urged, “Quickly! Check if there’s anyone else around!”
The assistants didn’t dare delay and immediately split up to search.
Ten minutes later, “Professor, we found nothing.”
“I haven’t found anything over here either.”
Ming Yu’s expression was dead silent, as if he was shrouded in a layer of coldness. The disappointment after the empty joy made him look unlike his usual elegance, with a hint of inexplicable gloom in his eyes.
The assistants thought they were mistaken, blinked, and looked again, but the professor was still the professor, with a calm expression and serene demeanor, unchanged.
Indeed, they must have been mistaken.
At this moment, another assistant suddenly remembered something and exclaimed, “When we came up just now, we met someone coming down.”
Ming Yu asked, “Did you see the face clearly?”
The assistant shook his head, “The light was too dim, and the person was wearing a hat that covered everything tightly. But from the figure, it should be a woman.”
Ming Yu’s breath hitched, his fingers subconsciously tightened on the wheelchair armrest.
“Bring up the surrounding surveillance, search!”
The two assistants looked at each other, cautiously asking, “Now?”
“Yes.”
“But at this time, the cemetery staff have already gone off duty…” Where could they access the surveillance?
Ming Yu enunciated each word, “At any cost.”
The two assistants looked at each other, both seeing the shock in each other’s eyes.
Was this allowing them to… use their privileges?
Outside the cemetery.
The two assistants had already contacted the person in charge of the cemetery, and the other party politely answered the phone, saying that they had already been informed and that they could directly go to the monitoring center to make copies.
One assistant went, leaving one to take care of Ming Yu.
“Professor, it’s windy outside. Shouldn’t we wait in the car?”
“No need. Is there a flower shop nearby?”
“Yes, there’s one just across the street, but it’s about to close.”
Ming Yu said, “Push me over there.”
The assistant complied.
“Boss Xiao, is everything okay on your end?!” The boss lady reached up to her neck and looked into the back room, “Should I close the rolling shutter first?”
“You go ahead!”
The woman was about to reach up when suddenly—
“Sorry to bother you, boss lady.”
The boss lady glanced at the young man in front of her, then lowered her head to sweep her eyes over the man in the wheelchair, whose gaze was dull.
“Do you… need something?”
The assistant said, “We’d like to ask, do you sell red roses in your shop?”
The boss lady nodded, “We do, but red roses are only for online orders, with home delivery. Most people who come directly to the store buy daisies, lilies, and the like, since it’s for worship, very few people buy roses.”
The assistant didn’t know how to ask further and fell silent for a moment.
Ming Yu spoke directly, “Excuse me, has anyone come to your store to buy red roses today?”
The boss lady’s gaze flickered slightly.
It was this two-second hesitation that gave the man a clue.
“It looks like there was.” His tone was certain, even though his eyes had no focus, as if he could see through everything.
The boss lady had nothing to hide: “Someone did buy them, just about forty minutes ago. The last bouquet of red roses was taken.”
Ming Yu subconsciously sat up straight, his spine stiff, as if a taut string: “Was it a man or a woman?”
“A girl.”
Assistant: “Was she wearing a duckbill cap?”
“Yes, yes, she was tall and slender.”
Ming Yu suppressed the wild beating of his heart, trying to make his voice sound calm enough, but the trembling that was barely discernible betrayed his current agitation.
Just then, the man’s Adam’s apple rolled lightly, his tone tinged with a hint of obscurity: “Can we see the surveillance footage from the store?”
The boss lady hesitated.
The assistant pulled her aside, said a few words to her, and casually slipped five hundred yuan to her, assuring her repeatedly that they meant no harm.
Only then did the boss lady agree.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you beforehand. The girl was wearing a hat, so you couldn’t see her face from this angle.”
Ming Yu thanked her but still insisted on seeing the surveillance, even though he couldn’t see anything.
Sure enough—
When the surveillance footage was played, only the top of a hat could be seen.
Hoodie and pants, covered from head to toe, clearly didn’t want to be photographed and had made thorough preparations.
“…About one meter seventy tall, thin figure with long legs,” the assistant described to Ming Yu.
The latter inclined his head slightly, his upper body leaning forward, a sign of his intense concentration and focus.
However, at the moment he heard “about one meter seventy,” he frowned deeply.
“Are you sure about the height being one meter seventy?”
The assistant hesitated, then glanced again: “I think so…”
But the boss lady said, “Definitely taller than one meter seventy! My husband is one seventy-two, and she was even taller than him.”
The man’s face darkened.
One seventy…
How could she be one seventy?
Ming Yue wasn’t that tall…
“Can you tell her approximate age?” he asked again.
The boss lady thought for a moment, “Probably not more than twenty-five, very young!”
The age didn’t match either…
The light that had ignited in Ming Yu’s eyes gradually dimmed, until it faded completely.
At this moment, the other assistant returned with the surveillance, and the three of them prepared to leave the car.
Suddenly, several black cars rushed out from the surroundings, accompanied by the screech of brakes. The door of the leading car opened, and a pair of long legs wrapped in suit pants appeared in front of everyone.
The man stepped out, stood still, and under the moonlight, his handsome features exuded a sickly delicacy.
There was a kind of sinister beauty.
The two assistants exchanged glances, wondering if they had encountered some underground organization trying to kidnap the professor.
Ming Yu sat in the wheelchair, his eyes squinting involuntarily under the intentional glare of the headlights.
“Who are you?! What do you want?” one assistant stepped forward, blocking most of the light with his body, shielding Ming Yu from the glare.
The man raised his hand slightly, and the car’s high beams switched to low beams, making it less blinding.
He chuckled, “Long time no see, Ming Yu.”
Ming Yu’s expression flickered.
But the man had already stepped forward, pushing aside the obstructive assistant, standing in front of the wheelchair, looking down at him.
This move was extremely impolite, even arrogant.
Ming Yu’s stagnant pupils moved gently, accompanied by the movement of lifting his head, as if he could really see the other person.
He didn’t get angry, not even a hint of anger on his lips.
It was the two assistants who couldn’t bear it anymore—
“Who are you? How dare you shout at the professor like this, don’t you have any manners?!”
“The professor? Oh, almost forgot, you’re now the famous physicist, highly respected in the academic community. Unfortunately,” his eyes suddenly turned cold, “what’s that got to do with me?”
“You—” The assistant’s cheeks flushed with anger. “Professor, let’s go!”
As he spoke, he was about to push Ming Yu away.
But the next second, they were blocked by the black-clad men, and Lou Mingshen stood still, smiling arrogantly.
“Want to leave? Did you ask me?”
“You, you’re illegally detaining us! I’m calling the police right now!” With that, he took out his phone.
“Zhong Hao, don’t be impulsive, put it away,” Ming Yu said calmly.
“But this man—”
“My words don’t count?”
“…,” Zhong Hao’s face was full of frustration as he put his phone away.
Lou Mingshen snorted softly, “You’re smart.”
Ming Yu spoke kindly, “I’m here to see Ming Yue—”
“Shut up!” Before he could finish his sentence, he was rudely interrupted by the other party. The man’s eyes reddened, and a chilling murderous intent filled the air: “Ming Yu, you’re not worthy to mention my older sister’s name!”
