Before the formal interview with Jiang Fuyue, Li Shanshui spent a full week preparing.
This included, but was not limited to, watching video materials, reading related papers, and even learning about Jiang Fuyue’s family and relatives.
Li Shanshui was surprised to discover that even before winning the Lasker Award, she had already been extremely outstanding.
Without exaggeration, no one among her peers could surpass her.
As her understanding deepened, she became increasingly curious about this girl who was a full twenty years younger than herself.
First was her unimaginable talent, she had already begun publishing papers in high school and was selected into Physical Review Letters.
Second was her versatility and breadth of knowledge: mathematics, biology, physics, medicine, and computer science had all flourished under her efforts, each with academic achievements.
It should be known that even if a scientist spends an entire lifetime, they may not fully master even a small branch within a single discipline.
Yet she had taken on everything and excelled in all of it.
The saying “each profession has its specialization” seemed not to apply to her.
What gave Li Shanshui an even bigger headache were the three CNS papers Jiang Fuyue had published,
“Exact Analytical Propagator of Anisotropic Quantum Dots with Atomic Spin-Orbit Coupling under Magnetic Field”
“Three-Dimensional Structure of the Active Human Histone pre-mRNA 3′ End Processing Complex”
“Microglia Mediate Forgetting through Complement-Dependent Synaptic Elimination.”
The knowledge involved spanned three major fields, physics, biology, and medicine, and their professionalism and complexity were astonishing.
It should be noted that Li Shanshui held dual master’s degrees from B University and University of Cambridge, and after returning to China had worked for a year in a gene laboratory at Q University before switching careers to become a media professional.
Although she was not a formal scientific researcher, she did have a research background and a relatively broad knowledge base.
But when faced with these…
Sorry, she had underestimated the situation.
Two days before the interview, Li Shanshui sent Jiang Fuyue the interview outline according to procedure.
Only, this outline…
“D*mn! Why is it so long?” Han Heng’s eyes nearly popped out.
A full ten pages, one hundred questions.
“Did the host make a mistake?” Han Heng looked at the densely packed professional terminology above, occasionally mixed with symbolic formulas, and nearly felt blinded.
Normally speaking, an interview outline contains at most ten questions, sent in advance by the host or program team so the guest can prepare mentally.
“This looks like she brought out the entire question bank,” Han Heng clicked his tongue in amazement.
However, while he was complaining, Jiang Fuyue had already skimmed through the first five pages at ten lines per glance, pausing less than twenty seconds per page on average.
Han Heng: “Well, it’s fine to look anyway, maybe she’ll happen to ask some of these.”
If Han Heng truly understood Jiang Fuyue, he would know that the phrase “maybe” did not exist in her dictionary.
There was only,
Yes or no.
Absolute extremity, absolute dominance, carrying the confidence of controlling everything and looking down with pride.
A truly strong person never hands decision-making over to something like “luck.”
While speaking, Han Heng watched Jiang Fuyue finish all ten pages and then casually throw them into the trash.
“Hey? Yueyue, why did you throw it away? Wasn’t it just printed?”
“Useless things should be thrown away.”
Han Heng: “?”
Useless?
What did that mean?
Too many questions, so she simply gave up?
…
On the day of the formal interview, inside a studio at the capital station.
The surrounding environment was arranged warmly, the kind of comfort that could make people lower their guard.
There were not many guests offstage, mostly internal staff and people brought by Jiang Fuyue.
Tang Youtian personally took time out of his busy schedule to oversee the process and brought five or six staff members in case of emergencies.
No matter what happened today, he had to keep Jiang Fuyue there and complete the interview!
All his recent compromises and careful flattery could not go to waste.
The four “diamond generals” of the Han family also arrived, along with Han Ting, the “little diamond general.”
Oh, and Xiao Mang, the “dog general,” who received special approval to enter.
“Woof woof, ” I also have status!
“Why hasn’t it started yet?” Han Ting was a bit anxious. Today he had specially worn a small suit, with a flashy bright red bow tie.
He was also holding a bouquet of perfume lilies, preparing to rush up after the interview ended to present them to his sister and take a photo together openly!
Tomorrow at school, once he showed the photo, he would instantly become the most popular kid in the class~
Nice!
Han Shen frowned: “Stop moving around. Behave.”
Han Ting pouted fiercely.
Han Ke: “It should start soon.”
Han Heng glanced at the lilies in his nephew’s hands: “Not bad, you prepared thoroughly!”
“Hehe…”
At 10 a.m., the recording officially began.
With Li Shanshui, there was never any retake or supplemental recording, whatever performance you gave was what remained.
There had once been a guest who, after being rendered speechless by Li Shanshui’s questioning and becoming flustered, actually kicked over the table in agitation.
After calming down, he requested the segment be cut and rerecorded, but Li Shanshui directly refused.
Then his furious outburst appeared before viewers nationwide, completely collapsing his previously gentle and refined persona.
Han Heng: “I heard this host is something else…” Before coming, he had done some research.
Han Ke: “What did you expect? Even top investment bankers from Wall Street don’t dare accept her interviews.”
The old master coughed lightly: “Stop talking! It’s starting!”
…
On stage, the lights suddenly brightened. Seven cameras began working simultaneously, and the atmosphere instantly formed.
Li Shanshui: “Hello, Jiang Fuyue. It’s an honor to have the opportunity to interview you.”
Jiang Fuyue: “It’s also my honor to have the opportunity to be interviewed by you.”
Their eyes met, without a word, the first exchange between the two women had already concluded.
Li Shanshui smiled slightly: “I heard that during high school you published the paper ‘Physical Study of Bacterial Motion, Analysis from the Perspective of Spatial Biology and Cross Condensed Matter Physics,’ successfully appearing on the front page of issue 872 of Physical Review Letters. Do you think that was accidental or inevitable?”
Answering “accidental” would sound too fake.
But saying “inevitable” would seem overly arrogant.
The very first question was not in the outline, and was highly aggressive.
Jiang Fuyue spoke truthfully: “An accident within inevitability.”
“Oh? How so?”
“Completing the paper was inevitable. Appearing in Physical Review Letters was accidental.”
“So you think the journal’s selection of your paper involved some element of luck, correct?”
Jiang Fuyue shook her head: “It wasn’t Physical Review Letters choosing me, it was me choosing it. Academic papers cannot be submitted to multiple journals simultaneously; that’s common knowledge. If I hadn’t chosen Physical Review Letters, this paper might just as well have gone to Nature or Science.”
Li Shanshui narrowed her eyes slightly: “You believe the quality of this paper was sufficient for CNS?”
Jiang Fuyue: “Facts prove that another paper derived from its theoretical foundation, ‘Exact Analytical Propagator of Anisotropic Quantum Dots with Atomic Spin-Orbit Coupling under Magnetic Field’, has already achieved that, hasn’t it?”
That paper was published in Nature.
For a moment, Li Shanshui found herself unable to respond.
She realized this girl was somewhat proud, and somewhat arrogant, but her achievements truly matched that pride and arrogance.
So her pride became justified, and her arrogance became natural.
How was she supposed to push further using this angle?
Li Shanshui began to feel anxious.
