The winter in Shanghai was particularly cold.
The breeze blowing made people’s faces numb and sore.
The business trip plan was put on hold. When Liu Yi asked if he still wanted to go through the resignation procedures, Ye Mu refused.
The words that night made him sober. He didn’t want to run away with his tail between his legs anymore.
Rather than going to another city to be negative and decadent, it was better to live in the present and let those wounds tear more and more painfully until he felt nothing.
He didn’t numb himself with work like before, and gradually started to develop his own hobbies. In his spare time, he would read a book or listen to some music.
Because he no longer held any expectations, he stopped staring at his phone every day, stopped worrying all the time, and stopped thinking about unnecessary things.
A sense of freedom, ease, and living for himself gave him a whole new experience.
Occasionally, he would hear some news about Yan Chen, saying that he came out publicly and was preparing for a wedding with Gu Huai, sparing no expense.
The magazine cover published their wedding photos in matching suits, one handsome and suave, the other gentlemanly and elegant, looking exceptionally well-matched.
Ye Mu saw it and just smiled. Although he was a bit bitter, he still silently blessed them in his heart.
The years are long, it’s fine as long as each of them is well.
Chen Mo adjusted his position to a personal assistant. In addition to handling some important work matters, he was also responsible for some daily trivial tasks.
Ye Mu had always held this kind of position when he was in the company before, so most of the time it was effortless for him.
As their familiarity with each other deepened in all aspects, the two collaborated seamlessly at work and won several high-value projects in a row.
The generous commissions allowed him to pay off his previous debts and even have extra money to buy some luxury goods.
Everything seemed to show signs of slowly getting better.
…
In February, he accompanied Chen Mo to attend their wedding.
Yan Chen was busy entertaining guests.
He looked even more handsome than before. His increasingly broad shoulders, paired with a black tuxedo, added a kind of mature and restrained masculine charm to him.
As before, no matter where he stood, this man’s every move still exuded that indelible, elegant, and dignified handsomeness in his bones.
Ye Mu sat below the stage, not speaking, just quietly watching him like this.
There is such a person who makes your heart beat faster, fills you with joy, and makes you feel that life is complete as if he is your heart.
But you can’t love him.
Perhaps this is the greatest tragedy in life.
For so many years, how could he not have thought of giving up, but after searching for half his life, he never found someone who could make his heart move like Yan Chen again.
Leaving this person, you can imagine that in the years to come, you will have to go on like this, lonely, without desire or pursuit.
It’s a curse, but at the same time perhaps it can also be said to be a kind of liberation accompanied by purity of heart and few desires.
“Ding dong ding dong…”
A clear musical sound suddenly rang out.
On the high platform, the priest solemnly read the wedding vows.
“Do you want to be with this man always, love him, be faithful to him, whether he is poor, sick, or disabled, until death? Do you?”
“I do.” Gu Huai’s voice had a bit of reverberation, sounding very pleasant.
Yan Chen glanced at him, his deep eyes filled with tenderness and affection, his thin lips parted slightly, and he also said, “I do.”
As the words fell, a wave of applause like a tide rose from the audience.
Afterward, the newlyweds took photos with the guests, and the banquet catering officially began.
The guests entered the venue one after another and took their seats according to the table numbers on the invitations. The grand orchestra played lively music to express welcome, and a festive atmosphere permeated everywhere.
Chen Mo didn’t like the noise, so he led Ye Mu to a relatively quiet place. In the middle, he went out to take a business call, leaving him alone waiting there.
The wedding could be said to have spared no expense, with each dish being meticulously crafted. Ye Mu had no appetite and only took a few sips of wine.
Yan Chen made rounds, toasting and moving around.
In a secluded corner, he spotted Ye Mu.
That man was full of austere aura but, in fact, was inconsistent inside and out.
Slightly curling his thin lips, he slowly walked over and said in a deep voice,
“Had a change of heart?”
“What?” Ye Mu looked up.
Yan Chen looked at him, his expression indifferent, “Still living in that place? I’ll come over tomorrow night.”
Ye Mu paused and frowned, “Mr. Yan, I think you may have misunderstood.”
Yan Chen sneered, his face cold as he approached him, “Stop pretending, didn’t you come here just to dangle yourself in front of me so I would remember you?”
Ye Mu was reticent, somewhat wearily closing his eyes, “Yan Chen, I just realized you’re even more shameless than I imagined.”
Yan Chen laughed coldly, with sarcasm, “Shameless? How can I be like that when you’re the one throwing yourself at me?”
As he spoke, he wanted to reach out and put his arm around Ye Mu’s shoulder, but someone beat him to it.
“You may have really gotten it wrong, he’s waiting for me.” A low, cold voice suddenly rang out.
Chen Mo appeared out of nowhere, pulling Ye Mu to him in one motion, the entire action looking full of familiarity and exuding the domineering aura of a boss.
Yan Chen’s phoenix eyes narrowed, his gaze locked tightly on the hand placed on Ye Mu, his face suddenly gloomy, “Chen Mo, I see you’re tired of living.”
Chen Mo laughed, a hint of sharpness and arrogance at the corner of his lips, “Eager to cheat right after getting married, I think this sentence is more suitable for you. Why don’t I find ‘sister-in-law’ to judge now?”
Yan Chen raised his eyelids to look at him, his slender phoenix eyes a deep black, “Don’t meddle blindly, he’s not someone you can touch.”
Chen Mo curled his lips, a hint of mischief flashing in his pitch-black eyes, “You’re joking. Ye Mu has long been my person. When we were in Uruk, we already had a mutual affection.”
Yan Chen gritted his teeth hard, his voice sharp, “You little bastard, aren’t you the one who hates gays the most?”
Chen Mo laughed, the corners of his mouth slightly raised, “That was before, people can change.”
With that, he winked at Ye Mu in an unruly manner, making a gesture for them to leave.
Ye Mu was stunned for a moment, but quickly responded with ease, “Mr. Yan, our President Chen is very busy. If there’s nothing else, we’ll leave first.”
Yan Chen looked at him coldly, his face sinking to the bottom, “Don’t you have anything to say to me?”
Ye Mu raised his eyes, his voice without much fluctuation, “I wish you a happy wedding.”
Yan Chen’s hand holding the wine glass clenched tightly, “What else?”
Ye Mu’s expression was light, “That’s all.”
Chen Mo was impatient and casually added, “We will take our leave.”
Yan Chen’s black eyes could almost spit fire. He endured for a long time before speaking, “I won’t see you out.”
Chen Mo chuckled, a hint of playfulness flashing in his black pupils that was not easy to detect. He intimately took Ye Mu’s hand.
Ye Mu was slightly dazzled and a bit uncomfortable, but still followed him out.
Yan Chen’s eyes grew darker, staring at their backs all the way until they disappeared.
“Crash!”
A red wine glass was smashed to the ground in a rage, glass shards shattering all over.
