Tang Amo immediately rushed forward to help Lin Yu into the room. “How hot is the pregnancy line?”
When a Ger gives birth, there is a horizontal line on their lower abdomen called the pregnancy line. When it reaches peak heat, it gradually splits open, allowing the baby to be delivered, similar to a modern C-section. The unusual part is that the Ger’s pregnancy line opens on its own, and after applying a special pregnancy line powder, it rapidly heals. After resting for about half a month, they recover as usual, with no significant restrictions other than needing to move less.
Lying on the bed, Lin Yu frowned and said, “It’s as hot as the pregnancy mole at its hottest.”
“There’s still time then. I’ll go heat some water. When the pain becomes unbearable, remember to call out to me loudly.”
Tang Amo, having experience with such situations, was much calmer than usual.
“Alright.”
Lin Yu endured the searing pain in his abdomen.
When the pregnancy line heats up, it is excruciating. Lin Yu felt as if his stomach was being torn apart. Unable to bear the pain, he bit down hard on the corner of the blanket to avoid injuring his tongue. Sweat poured from his temples, and his face began to flush—a sign of extreme pain. Spitting out the blanket corner, he used all his strength to call out, “Amo.”
Tang Amo hurried in with a bowl of warm water and some other items. He placed them on the side and lifted Lin Yu’s clothes, revealing his swollen abdomen. The pregnancy line was already turning red.
“There’s still a bit of time. Hold on.”
Tang Amo stuffed a clean handkerchief into Lin Yu’s mouth for him to bite on. Then, he wrung out a cloth from the basin and placed it on Lin Yu’s pregnancy line, keeping the pregnancy line powder ready on the side.
At that moment, Tang Feng and Father Tang had just left Owner Huang’s place. “Let’s go check out the donkeys,”
Tang Feng felt an inexplicable sense of urgency but couldn’t understand why. Hearing his father, he nodded in agreement.
“When choosing a donkey, you need to pick one with a sturdy frame and small, solid hooves. That’s the best kind.”
Father Tang quietly explained to Tang Feng as they observed the donkeys in front of them.
“Father, look at this one.”
Tang Feng pointed to a small donkey standing in the corner.
Father Tang looked over. It was the smallest of the herd, slender but with a broad skeletal structure and small, firm hooves, just as he had described.
Seeing them eyeing the small donkey that had been hard to sell, the stable keeper quickly approached. “This donkey is just young, but look at its frame and hooves—they are quite good.”
Father Tang hesitated, thinking that bringing home such a young donkey would mean raising it for at least half a year before it could start working.
Noticing his hesitation, the stable keeper understood their concerns. Many people thought the same, which was why this donkey had remained unsold.
“How much for this donkey?”
Tang Feng asked.
The stable keeper just wanted to get rid of the young donkey quickly. Hearing Tang Feng’s question, he smiled eagerly, “Two taels of silverstone, this is the best bargain you’ll ever get!”
Normally, the minimum price for a donkey was four taels of silverstone.
Father Tang and Tang Feng discussed it briefly, then Tang Feng approached to check the young donkey’s condition. The stable keeper quickly warned, “That donkey is skittish around strangers, be careful not to get hurt.”
“It’s fine.”
Tang Feng looked into the donkey’s eyes, which were moist and curious, reminding him of how curious his own child, Dou Dou, might be when first seeing the world.
The stable keeper followed closely, fearing the donkey might injure the customer, ruining the sale and causing trouble. To his surprise, the usually aggressive young donkey was exceptionally calm, allowing Tang Feng to touch it without any resistance.
“We’ll take it.”
“Wa wa wa! Wa wa wa!”
Lin Amo had come to deliver some things to the Tang family, but as soon as he entered the courtyard, he heard the loud cries.
He hurriedly placed the items under the eaves and rushed to the door of Lin Yu’s room, calling out, “Has the baby been born?”
“Yes, yes, a chubby little Dou Dou! Come wash your hands and hold the baby while I apply the pregnancy line powder to Xiao Yu.”
Tang Amo was struggling to manage everything by himself, so he was immediately relieved to hear Lin Amo’s voice.
“Alright, alright, alright! How is Ah Yu?”
“I’m fine.”
Lin Yu replied, sounding tired but otherwise okay, which reassured Lin Amo. “That’s good! I’ll go wash my hands right away!”
Tang Amo quickly cleaned the chubby little Dou Dou and wrapped him in soft cloth before placing him in front of Lin Yu with a beaming smile.
“Look, here’s our Dou Dou.”
Lin Yu gazed at the robust, round baby with astonishment in his eyes. “No wonder my belly was so big; he’s so sturdy.”
Relieved that Dou Dou was a boy, Lin Yu felt a sense of relief. He had worried that the baby might be a tall and strong Ger like himself.
“I’m here, I’m here, i’m here, Let me see, let me see,”
Lin Amo eagerly entered the room and took the chubby Dou Dou in his arms. “Look at how well this child is growing!”
“Isn’t that right? No other child in the village can compare to him!”
After wiping Lin Yu’s body, Tang Amo applied the special pregnancy line powder to his abdomen and placed a warm cloth over it. Lin Yu didn’t feel much pain now; he only felt a soothing warmth and was careful not to make any sudden movements that might reopen the wound.
“Bear with it; it will almost completely heal in fifteen minutes.”
Lin Yu nodded in response.
The pregnancy line powder was exceptionally effective for healing after childbirth in Ger but was useless for other types of wounds.
“By the way, where are the milk fruits we bought for the baby? He seems to be moving his little mouth a lot; he must be hungry.”
Lin Amo lovingly kissed the chubby Dou Dou, who had yet to open his eyes.
“In the wardrobe, on the bottom shelf. Yes, right there.”
Lin Yu directed Lin Amo to where the milk fruit was stored.
As Lin Amo cut open the milk fruit, a fragrant aroma wafted out, and the milky white juice began to flow into a bowl. He gently scooped some with a spoon and brought it to Dou Dou’s mouth, which immediately began to move. “Dou Dou is such a good boy.”
“You get some rest. I’ll go prepare something nourishing for you.”
Tang Amo said, tidying up before leaving the room with the tray.
Lin Amo placed the baby back in front of Lin Yu. “Now I can finally relax. The days ahead will only get better.”
Lin Yu reached out to touch Dou Dou’s slightly red cheeks, becoming lost in the moment.
Tang Feng and Father Tang, having bought a few items and loaded them onto the small donkey, began the slow walk back home. Now that they had a donkey, there was no need to hire a cart.
“Your Amo is right. We need to rebuild the house. It’s the same one I built in my second year as village chief, and that was over twenty years ago. It’s getting old.”
Tang Feng nodded in agreement. “We definitely need to rebuild. I’ll think carefully about how to do it.”
Tang Amo, feeling joyous, hung a red cloth at the entrance of their courtyard. Passersby saw it and asked, “Did Dr. Tang’s Fu Lang give birth?”
“Yes, indeed. And a very healthy baby too!”
“Congratulations! Congratulations!”
Tang Amo’s face almost blossomed into a smile.
After Tang Feng and his father entered the village, several people congratulated them. At first, Tang Feng thought they were congratulating them on their little donkey, but as he listened more, he felt something was off. Thinking of Lin Yu at home, he hurriedly handed the donkey’s reins to Father Tang.
“Father! I’ll go home and check first!”
Father Tang, holding the reins Tang Feng had shoved at him, asked puzzledly, “What’s with this child, so happy?”
“Village chief, you don’t know? You became a grandfather today!”
Father Tang’s eyes widened in surprise, “What, what?”
It was the first time the villager saw such an expression on the village chief’s face and quickly explained, “It’s true! There’s even a red cloth hanging at your courtyard gate!”
Hanging a red cloth at the gate symbolized the birth of a new life in the family.
Tang Feng almost ran all the way home. The Tang household was lively now, with Wu Amo, Father Lin, and Zhang Amo in the main room, laughing and chatting loudly.
Tang Feng didn’t even glance at the red cloth at the gate, nor did he greet anyone in the main room. He hurriedly entered his and Lin Yu’s room. When he saw the scene on the bed, he immediately closed his mouth, which was about to speak.
Lin Yu was sleeping on the bed, his face still rosy. In his arms lay a chubby baby, with rosy cheeks, a small mouth moving slightly, and little hands gripping the soft fabric covering him. He looked incredibly cute.
Tang Feng walked to the bedside, gently stroked Lin Yu’s face with affection, and then looked at the unbelievably chubby Tang Dou Dou. No wonder his wife’s belly was so big; it turned out the little guy was growing so robustly, with a clear, smooth forehead. It looked like a little bean man.
Tang Feng gently lifted Lin Yu’s clothes to check the scar that had already started to heal on his pregnant belly line before he left the room.
He didn’t dare to disturb Lin Yu and Tang Dou Dou, afraid of waking them up.
“Have you seen them?”
Tang Amo, who was about to go into the room to put some pregnancy powder on Lin Yu again, looked at Tang Feng, who was smiling silly.
“I’ve seen them. Fu Lang worked hard, and the child is very good.”
“In the future, you must be good to Xiao Yu, without Xiao Yu, there would be no you!” Xiao Yu’s eight characters are prosperous!
Tang Feng, immersed in the joy of becoming a father for the first time, didn’t quite catch what Tang Amo said, so he was quite confused.
Father Tang was overjoyed while he was running home with the little donkey.
“Today is September 12th, and your third uncle was born on September 16th. Our Dou Dou picked a good day.”
“In the future, he’ll definitely be a Lord Xiucai!” Wu Amo laughed.
“It’s a coincidence that I just came in and the child was just born!”
Lin Amo was particularly proud when he mentioned this.
“Really?”
Lin Wen asked in surprise.
Lin Amo nodded, and Father Lin looked at him jealously, “If only I had known I would have come to send the stuff.”
“You wouldn’t be of any help if you came. Dou Dou had to have known I was coming and wanted to greet me, so he came out so suitably.”
Lin Amo tossed his head in smugness.
The crowd burst into laughter again.
Meanwhile, in the room, after Tang Feng applied the pregnancy line powder to Lin Yu, he sat by the bedside, watching the father and son.
