Chapter 118: Therefore, I exist (4)
<Previous Chapter<Table of Contents>Next Chapter>
Perhaps because they hadn’t seen Yan Shixun for so long, the audience flooding into the live broadcast appeared extremely excited.
Yan Shixun didn’t use the split-screen feature of the production team. Instead, like other guests, he opened a private account on the live streaming platform.
However, this newly opened account had not yet been verified, and it was still in a state of being limited and blocked on the live platform. You couldn’t see Yan Shixun’s live broadcast at all on the homepage.
It was a few bored Yan Mai who accidentally clicked in, and unexpectedly came face to face with Yan Shixun’s handsome face under the sunlight.
Yan Mai: “!!”
What was this? It felt like finding something without looking for it, without any effort?
They had been stalking him on social media every day, and now, unexpectedly, he quietly ran onto the live streaming platform to do his own broadcast?
Excited, the Yan Mai immediately took a screenshot and posted it on their social media feed along with the link to the live broadcast, using the #YanMai# tag.
The excited Yan Mais who rushed to the live broadcast almost went crazy, flooding the screen with barrage comments.
[Oh my god, Brother Yan, you finally decided to show up! Ever since the airport incident, I haven’t seen any updates from you. I thought I had to wait until the next episode of the show to see you again. I’m so touched!]
[Brother Yan, have you considered signing with a company? I’ve watched a lot of talent shows, and I’ve never been a fan of talent agencies. But as I waited eagerly for any news from you, I suddenly realized having a company might be good too, at least it would be active! Brother Yan, even if you just open a social media account and post something random every day! I’ve been missing you so much during this time, I don’t know how to cope with it.]
[Oh? Brother Yan is also hospitalized? The production team is so responsible. I see that other people are also recuperating in the hospital. Looking at your background, the environment looks really nice.]
[I’m in disbelief… I was just bored and clicked into a newly registered live broadcast room with an ID full of garbled characters, and what did I see? My beloved Brother Yan unexpectedly appeared right in front of me? What’s going on, is it fate that I and Brother Yan are destined to meet?]
Yan Shixuan squinted at the screen, watching the barrage of comments flying by rapidly. Despite his good eyesight allowing him to read the words the audience posted clearly, he wasn’t accustomed to staring at his phone for too long and still found it uncomfortable.
“Although it seems like what you want and what I want aren’t the same, indeed, those who can come in are the ones who need to see the live stream.”
Leaning back on the bench, Yan Shixun lazily rested his head, casually replying to the barrage of comments: “You didn’t have nightmares because you couldn’t see me, but because your luck was low. There’s a Taoist temple or a temple near your home where you can go – I’m not promoting superstition, but encouraging you to relax and learn more about historical sites and landmarks.”
His original intention wasn’t to solve doubts or accumulate popularity.
Before the live broadcast, he had already prepared. With talismans imbued with power, as long as he appeared in the live broadcast, those who saw him would be rid of evil spirits and negative emotions, restoring their normal luck.
During the broadcast, Yan Shixun directly used the ID number to divine, and the hexagram showed that he needed to broadcast for three hours. Fortunately, he didn’t need to do anything, as he had already decided to just sit there with his phone for three hours.
So, the eager Yan Mais who had just rushed over after seeing the tag in the feed, saw that Yan Shixun, who was in the live broadcast, had already lowered his head to look at the document in his hand, doing his own thing and ignoring the barrage of comments on the live screen.
[??? Why did Brother Yan start a live broadcast and not say anything? Did I misunderstand the definition of a vlog? After looking at the next-door An Nanyuan and then turning back to look at Brother Yan, I’m at a loss.]
[Haha, I thought Brother Yan finally remembered to do business, but it turns out he’s just in the idle mode.]
[Brother Yan can even start a live broadcast, what else do we need? Did you guys notice that when Yan Ge lowered his head, the collar of his hospital gown opened up a bit? You can see Brother Yan’s collarbone, it’s so alluring! I never thought that one day, someone’s collarbone alone would make me nosebleed.”
“Because Brother Yan has always been the ascetic type, right? I’ve gotten used to idols showing off their muscles in photos. Even the next-door fitness guy posts sweaty pictures in a white T-shirt every day. Who would want to hide their muscles? It’s all about attracting fans. But then there’s Brother Yan, covering up tightly. I noticed it from the first day I saw him. He always wears a black shirt, only unbuttoning two buttons. Except for his Adam’s apple and a bit of collarbone, you can’t see anything.]
[Sobs, after never showing us his muscles, we finally get to see them. Isn’t that exciting enough?]
[If it were any other celebrity, being so lackadaisical in the business would definitely make me mad. But Brother Yan… as long as he’s happy! As long as he’s doing the live broadcast, we can work out the rest!]
[I’m used to celebrities promoting their live broadcasts on social media, but I didn’t expect Brother Yan to rely solely on word of mouth! He hasn’t even been verified, this live broadcast account looks like a new one, even the nickname is just a string of gibberish, probably a random name generated by the system and never changed!]
[My child is content now. I’ve propped up the tablet on the table, and it feels like Brother Yan is accompanying me while I do homework. Ah, so happy!]
[Weird, is it just me? After watching the live broadcast of the program before, I always felt like I couldn’t breathe properly, my mood was bad, and I felt like there was something around me, always suspicious. But since I saw Brother Yan’s face just now, that feeling has been gradually fading away.]
[Turns out it’s not just me! Me too! These past few days, I’ve always dreamt of the child from our neighborhood who died of a high fever last year. He even asked me to play soccer with him, which made me feel so tired during the day. But since just now, I feel like the exhaustion on my body is disappearing.]
[Me too…]
Yan Shixun probably knew what kind of barrage would appear on the screen as the length of the live broadcast increased and the number of viewers increased, but he didn’t bother to look up.
He was looking at the stack of invitations brought by the Zhang family’s assistant.
What disappointed him somewhat was that after scanning through dozens of invitations at a glance, all he saw were various invitations related to feng shui, Yin House positioning, improving luck, increasing wealth, and so on.
Yan Shixun couldn’t help but frown.
Many people in the same industry would do things to increase wealth or change fate for the wealthy and powerful, but this was always beyond his scope of commission.
—There is a natural balance between heaven and earth.
It’s just a matter of making less money or dying according to fate.
For Yan Shixun, this was as normal as it could be, and there was no need for him to take it on.
He didn’t read feng shui or fortune-telling; he only helped people drive away evil spirits and catch ghosts.
Because this was what really endangered people’s lives, deciding whether the resentful spirits could dispel their obsessions and move on to reincarnation.
After flipping through the invitations for a while, Yan Shixun began to lose interest. He was ready to casually place the documents on the nearby bench and take a nap in the afternoon sun to spend the remaining two hours of the live broadcast.
But at that moment, with a careless glance, Yan Shixun suddenly saw a line of text caught in the breeze-lifted pages.
“….. The walls at home were found with children’s blood handprints.”
Yan Shixun’s eyes narrowed, and he reached out to pull out that particular invitation.
This invitation came from a top actress in the entertainment industry. Even though Yan Shixun wasn’t interested in the entertainment industry, he had heard of this actress’s name.
The actress, named Chi Yan, debuted at the age of fifteen with a groundbreaking work by a famous director, catapulting her to fame and winning her the Golden Jasmine Award for Best Actress of the year.
However, due to her high debut point, Chi Yan’s subsequent resources didn’t catch up, and she quickly fell into a long period of obscurity after her initial burst of fame.
At that time, many media outlets criticized Chi Yan, saying that she would end up like those previous teenage actors, exhausting all her energy in one good role and then fading into obscurity.
But no one expected that two years later, just as everyone was beginning to forget about Chi Yan, she boldly took on a low-profile drama directed by an unknown director.
And then, with the female lead role in it, she once again rose to prominence in everyone’s sight.
Some film critics also analyzed that Chi Yan’s acting skills hadn’t improved much, but the highlights lay in the ingenious script and twists, as well as the bold and avant-garde filming concept of the young director. Chi Yan was completely lifted up by these two factors.
‘With a good script and a good director, even garbage can soar.’
That’s how many people evaluated it online at the time.
But with this role, Chi Yan won so many awards that it softened her hands. She truly opened up her market. So, all those criticisms against her were categorized as the sour words of haters.
Chi Yan was now in her thirties this year, but she seemed to defy age, still as beautiful as when she debuted, only with a more profound and mature temperament.
Many young stars who worked with her for the first time mentioned in interviews that they dared not look directly into Chi Yan’s eyes, feeling her strong presence.
And now, this well-established first-rate actress in the film and television industry, with numerous awards and honors under her belt, seemed to have no troubles that could bother her. Yet, she had gone through various connections to finally reach out to the Zhang family and, through them, extended an invitation to Yan Shixun.
No, this looks more like a plea for help.
Yan Shixun frowned as he looked at the paper in his hand.
Unlike other invitations, which were either printed or written in fancy fonts, the letter from Chi Yan seemed to be handwritten by herself. It appeared that her emotions were unstable while writing the letter, as the handwriting became sloppy and wild, with many parts crossed out and scribbled over, as if hesitating whether to mention this matter.
According to Chi Yan, strange things began happening in her home since the Chinese New Year this year.
The first incident involved her cats.
Chi Yan’s fans knew that she was very fond of small animals, and she kept two precious ragdoll cats at home. Chi Yan adored her cats, and their names and figures often appeared in her interviews and selfies.
However, one day, Chi Yan woke up to find that no matter how she called for her cats, they, who usually stuck to her, didn’t respond at all.
She went downstairs in bewilderment, only to find both cats disemboweled, lying dead in the living room with their bodies stiff and eyes wide open. The walls were smeared with blood and flesh.
It was like something out of a gruesome murder case.
Chi Yan was horrified, and her emergency-called manager accompanied her to check the surveillance footage. To their surprise, they found that no one had entered Chi Yan’s house.
It wasn’t a crazed fan breaking in, nor was it a home invasion by a deranged killer.
In the dead of night, the two cats were awakened by piercing screams, but then it was as if invisible hands forcibly tore open their soft bodies…
The manager immediately suspected supernatural involvement and sought help from a renowned master in the entertainment industry, hoping to resolve the issue.
After the master’s intervention, there was a brief period of peace in the house. However, Chi Yan’s life was soon disrupted again.
She heard strange noises wherever she went, children appearing in her dreams asking her to play, and objects moving in her room…
Chi Yan was mentally and physically exhausted.
And this time, what prompted Chi Yan to go to great lengths to find Yan Shixun and seek his help was the discovery of blood handprints all over the walls of her house.
—— Her nightmares had become a reality.
Yan Shixun flipped through the two thin sheets of paper, deciphering the frantic words and confusion between the lines, understanding the extent of Chi Yan’s fear.
But he didn’t want to get involved.
As Chi Yan herself mentioned, she had enough financial resources and connections to hire genuinely powerful masters who could help her resolve the issue without needing him.
However…
Yan Shixun paused.
Just to be on the safe side, he messaged Song Ci: “[What do you know about Chi Yan’s recent troubles?]”
Song Ci quickly replied: “[She reached out to you too? In the past six months, it seems she’s encountered some difficult problems. She and her manager have been begging people all over the world to find capable masters.]”
Yan Shixun’s brow relaxed.
Since someone was helping her, he wasn’t needed.
Money can work wonders, and he believed among his peers, there were always some willing to monetize their skills.
Yan Shixun set aside Chi Yan’s matter for the time being, but Song Ci caught onto Yan Shixun and wouldn’t stop talking, excitedly reporting about the recent incident involving the death of a female idol in a car accident.
Young Master Song had been enthusiastically engrossed in this matter for the past week. The idol group, which had just debuted, was signed under his family’s entertainment company. After this incident, the group’s activities had been temporarily suspended, and the other members were in a daze after witnessing their companion’s death, in poor condition.
So, Young Master Song’s investigation into this matter happened to align perfectly with his professional expertise.
Although Song Ci’s older brother found it strange why his indulged little brother suddenly took an interest in company affairs, it didn’t hurt, so he let the young master investigate on his own, providing him with many conveniences.
[Brother Yan, the one you mentioned lurking behind the entertainment reporter, from the description, it does seem to be that idol group, and the deceased is called Chi Xiao’ai. That night, they were speeding on the road late at night and changing lanes multiple times to evade the paparazzi who were swarming them. They didn’t realize there was a pothole on the road due to the darkness and lack of streetlights, so they overturned the car. A piece of metal from the car’s roof fell and pierced Chi Xiao’ai’s heart, causing her to die on the spot. The paparazzi who had intercepted them and tried to force them to stop saw the situation was unfavorable and immediately fled.]
[However, there was a power outage and maintenance on the day of the incident, so the surveillance cameras were not operating, and the exact entertainment company responsible and which reporter was involved remain unknown.]
Song Ci excitedly sent a message: [Brother Yan, based on what you said at the airport that day, does it imply that it was the entertainment reporter who did it? I’ll get my brother to report him to the police now!]
Yan Shixun didn’t expect Young Master Song to be so enthusiastic and proactive. He quickly replied: [Do you know what ‘innocent until proven guilty’ means? Don’t jump to conclusions until the truth is revealed. What if it’s not him? Then you’ll be harming an innocent person.]
Yan Shixun thought for a moment, then added, “[Words spoken in haste can harm, and public opinion can be deadly. Don’t act recklessly on uncertainty; rash actions only lead to regret, with no benefit.]”
Song Ci’s upbringing was even more sheltered than Zhang Wubing’s, Yan Shixun was worried that Song Ci might act impulsively and do something irreparable.
Rarely had anyone spoken to Song Ci so sternly, and after the message was sent, he sulked for quite a while before reluctantly replying, “[…I understand.]”
“Um…”
Yan Shixun was about to ask Song Ci something when he suddenly heard a faint, almost imperceptible girl’s voice coming from ahead.
If his hearing wasn’t so acute, he might have missed it entirely.
Yan Shixun immediately looked up, scanning from the ground upward. The midday sun was just right, and the voice seemed to be coming from ahead of him, but there was no shadow on the ground in front of him.
Then he saw a beautiful girl in a red women’s suit standing nervously in front of him.
There was no shadow beneath her feet.
“Are you talking about me just now with your friend?” The girl pinched the corner of her clothes, looking a bit scared as she glanced to the side several times, only to recoil each time as if shocked.
Following the direction the girl was looking, Yan Shixun saw Ye Li and Zhang Wubing standing under the corridor at the edge of the hospital garden.
Ye Li had his hands in his pockets, legs naturally spread apart, and his tall figure was accentuated by the all-black casual suit, exuding a strong sense of dominance. His stern face and imposing aura made the patients prefer taking a longer route rather than walking past him.
When Yan Shixun stood next to Ye Li before, although he had to tilt his head slightly to meet Ye Li’s gaze, the few centimeters of height difference didn’t give Yan Shixun a strong sense of inferiority.
Only now, with Ye Li and Zhang Wubing standing together, did the contrast suddenly become clear.
Yan Shixun realized just how tall Ye Li was.
Zhang Wubing was already over 1.7 meters tall, and Ye Li looked much taller than him… Was he around 1.9 meters?
The sudden realization left Yan Shixun with mixed feelings, but he quickly adjusted his mood and looked at the girl in front of him.
In her red suit, with delicate makeup and a metal piece pinned to her chest.
Yan Shixun asked softly, “Are you Chi Xiao’ai?”
The girl’s eyes lit up with joy immediately. “Yes!”
“Um, I didn’t mean to follow you intentionally. I just noticed that no matter what I say to others lately, they all ignore me, including the company and the other sisters in the group. But at the airport, you were looking at me, and I felt like you might be willing to talk to me, so I followed you.”
Chi Xiao’ai looked somewhat sad. “I might have been shelved. Was it because my dancing was too bad? Just debuted and already shelved… Although I was mentally prepared, isn’t this a bit too fast?”
Yan Shixun was taken aback.
He had initially thought that Chi Xiao’ai had come to him seeking help to move on to the afterlife, especially since he had encountered many ghosts like that before.
But from Chi Xiao’ai’s words, it seemed like she hadn’t realized that she was already dead?
That made sense.
Yan Shixun recalled the accident report sent to him by Song Ci. Because the vehicle had overturned unexpectedly, several people inside had lost consciousness instantly upon impact, only waking up in the hospital to realize that an accident had occurred.
However, Chi Xiao’ai had been pierced directly through the heart by the piece of metal, passing away without much suffering.
If Chi Xiao’ai had been knocked unconscious at that moment, she might not have known what had happened, and when she woke up, she would have found that the world around her had changed.
Yan Shixun also wasn’t ready to reveal the truth for now. He chuckled and asked in his magnetic voice, “So, what were you doing at the airport when I saw you?”
Chi Xiao’ai blinked, looking a bit dazed. “I, I… I felt like I recognized that person’s face before I fell asleep. When I woke up, I was standing next to him, so I followed him, wanting to ask him if he knew what was going on.”
“But he didn’t answer me,” she said, lowering her head in frustration.
If just now, when talking to Song Ci, Yan Shixun only suspected the entertainment reporter’s involvement in the accident but had no evidence, now he was almost certain that the person who chased the girl group’s vehicle, causing the accident, was that individual from the entertainment media.
—The evidence was there.
Cause and effect couldn’t be wrong. If the entertainment reporter had no connection to Chi Xiao’ai’s death, then Chi Xiao’ai wouldn’t have appeared next to him as a ghost.
However, because Chi Xiao’ai had no idea that she was already dead, coupled with her confused thoughts and lost memories from her previous life, she appeared as naive as a child.
Unless they were ancient spirits of thousands of years, or vengeful and highly skilled malicious ghosts, generally, ghosts wouldn’t recklessly appear in broad daylight.
The sunlight would scorch their souls.
But Chi Xiao’ai was unaware of this fact.
Yan Shixun could see it clearly – right before his eyes, Chi Xiao’ai’s soul was gradually fading, and even her hair had begun to smoke under the sunlight, as if it would burst into flames in the next moment.
Yet Chi Xiao’ai stood before him, oblivious, like a chatterbox who had been silent for a long time and suddenly erupted with a torrent of words. She kept talking about various odd things she had experienced and expressed her worries and anxieties, fearing that her fans would think poorly of her and drag down the overall image of the girl group.
She had no inkling that she was about to catch fire.
At that moment, Ye Li, who had been observing the situation, also with a grim expression, strode forward with his long legs, intending to come over and drive away the ghost that was affecting Yan Shixun’s recovery.
Yan Shixun quickly reached out his hand, making a gesture to stop Ye Li, telling him to stay put and not come any closer.
He could see clearly that both Chi Xiao’ai and other ghosts were afraid of Ye Li.
In fact, Chi Xiao’ai had, a week ago, followed the production team’s vehicle all the way to the hospital from the airport, avoiding getting close to his ward because of her fear of Ye Li.
As a result, he had enjoyed a rare week of leisure.
It wasn’t until today, because of the livestream, that Yan Shixun had asked Ye Li to stay away from him a bit, allowing Chi Xiao’ai to finally muster the courage to speak to him.
“You kept looking at me that day. Do you know me?”
Chi Xiao’ai, in her confused state of soul, was slow to perceive what was happening on Yan Lishan’s side and curiously sought confirmation from Yan Shixun, “I think I saw you and your friend mention my name in your messages just now. I’m sorry for looking at your phone. It was just a coincidence that I happened to glance at it.”
Chi Xiao’ai clasped her hands together, apologizing to Yan Shixun for not being a privacy-invading screen peeper.
Yan Shixun’s movement paused momentarily, and with Chi Xiao’ai’s politeness, a smile graced his handsome face.
He stood up and made a gentlemanly gesture of “please”: “I do know you indeed, and I also know why those people aren’t talking to you. But I’ve grown weary of staying in the garden. Would you mind accompanying me for a stroll?”
Chi Xiao’ai’s face lit up with surprise, nodding eagerly like a little chick pecking at grains: “Sure, sure! We really are friends. Only you are willing to talk to me. You don’t know, I’ve really been feeling stifled these past few days. Nobody pays attention to me…”
Yan Shixun smiled and occasionally responded to Chi Xiao’aii, soothing her emotions.
In the chaos of death, wandering in confusion at the crossroads, Chi Xiao’ai had accumulated too many emotions and words. She needed to vent, but she didn’t need too much response. He just needed to be a vent for her emotions.
Otherwise, these negative emotions accumulating in Chi Xiao’ai’s soul, if allowed to persist, would pollute her soul, making it unable to smoothly transition to the underworld.
Yan Shixun subtly guided Chi Xiao’ai into the shadows, silently reciting spells in his mind. The finger traced on Chi Xiao’ai’s soul drew nurturing spells, stabilizing her soul scorched by sunlight.
Neither of them felt anything amiss, smiling at each other as they walked into the hospital building together.
Only Ye Li stood in the garden, refraining from following at Yan Shixun’s behest. His gaze remained somber, shifting as Yan Shixun moved.
He wanted those ghosts to stay away from Yan Shixun a little more. Humans were fragile, and serious injuries were hard to heal. He didn’t want Yan Shixun to expend mental and physical energy on other ghosts while he was injured.
But this was Yan Shixun’s own decision.
Ye Li’s slender hand loosened and tightened, his thoughts fluctuating yet steady.
This was what it meant to be an exorcist…. He loved his brilliance but was reluctant because of his overwhelming radiance.
Ye Li’s icy facade betrayed a hint of complexity, a rare contradiction in his demeanor over the centuries.
Meanwhile, Zhang Wubing approached Ye Li with a trembling heart, seeking protection. “I-Is there a ghost next to Brother Yan? It seems like Brother Yan is talking to a ghost?”
The fear of ghosts seemed to outweigh Zhang Wubing’s apprehension of Ye Li.
Ye Li lowered his gaze, casting a cold glance at Zhang Wubing.
Was this friend, Shixun, confident that he would protect him when Shixun was not around?
Had this stranger associated him with Shixun?
The sharpness in Ye Li’s cold eyes softened slightly. His unfavorable impression of Zhang Wubing had diminished somewhat over the past few days, so he didn’t drive Zhang Wubing away.
Zhang Wubing rubbed his arms in confusion: What’s going on? Did I catch a cold? Why do I feel hot and cold alternately?
Similar feelings were shared by the audience watching the livestream before.
When Yan Shixun left, he had also left his phone on the stone table, forgetting to take it with him.
So the audience watched in disbelief as Yan Shixun seemed to be talking to himself, then smiled and stood up… and left.
He left??!!
The audience was dumbfounded.
It’s rare to see such a unique idol. It’s the first time they’ve seen someone disappear halfway through a livestream, leaving tens of thousands of viewers hanging.
[What’s going on? I just found out from Yan Mai’s tag that Brother Yan started a livestream. After finally finding Brother Yan’s livestream on the platform, I clicked in happily, only to find Brother Yan gone?! Huh??]
[Um, why does it look like Brother Yan was talking to someone before leaving? Is it just my imagination?]
[I heard Brother Yan mention a name, Chi Xiao’ai… Could it be that Brother Yan was talking to Chi Xiao’ai? But wasn’t the ghost Brother Yan mentioned at the airport the deceased Chi Xiao’ai?]
[Exactly! I’ve been following this group since their pre-debut audition. Chi Xiao’ai died in a car accident, and what Brother Yan described that day matched the accident photos the paparazzi released perfectly! Although the marketing accounts quickly deleted the death photo, I happened to see it before they did.]
[Damn! People took photos even though they died in a car accident. Have they no conscience?]
[Could it be that Brother Yan has been following this incident all along, so he unconsciously blurted out the name? I do that when I’m thinking about things. My mom says I mutter to myself like I’m split in two.]
[I’m in tears. It’s really hard to find Brother Yan’s livestream! Because it’s not verified and it’s a new account, the platform’s traffic control is strict. Due to platform issues, links from these types of accounts often lead to errors. It took me a lot of effort to find Brother Yan’s livestream in the list of new accounts, and then Brother Yan was about to leave?]
[But it’s quite strange. After watching Brother Yan’s livestream, I suddenly feel like the air at home is so fresh. For the past few days, I’ve felt like there’s a rotten smell at home, like something’s gone bad, but now I can’t smell it anymore.]
Brother Goose stared at the empty livestream screen, but whether it was because the garden scenery was so relaxing or the sunlight was just right, he suddenly felt his mood lighten.
The exhaustion from consecutive nightmares eased.
Perhaps, he thought, he should take a nap?
With this in mind, Brother Goose, who wasn’t accustomed to napping, slept soundly for the first time in a long while.
In his dream, he saw the woman he had dreamed of several times before.
But this time, she didn’t have that knife in her chest, and her expression wasn’t vacant and lost.
She walked from the living room to his bedroom, knocked on Brother Goose’s door, and spoke to him for the first time: “I’ve come to bid farewell.”
“I seemed to have stumbled into your house in a daze before, and if I’ve inconvenienced you, I apologize.”
The woman smiled and said, “I’ve lingered here for too long. Seeing that gentleman made me realize it’s time for me to leave too. Goodbye, and may you be safe.”
Brother Goose saw himself standing in the bedroom, waving goodbye to the woman and replying, “Goodbye.”
After waking up from the dream, Brother Goose felt unusually relaxed. After a long period of insomnia and nightmares, he had finally had a good night’s sleep. Even the occupational hazard of staying up late due to being a content creator no longer bothered him.
He sat on the edge of the bed, staring blankly into the living room.
That woman who died two years ago… Had she left after he played Brother Goose’s livestream today?
…
In the hospital, Yan Shixun guided Chi Xiao’ai towards Song Ci’s ward.
“I mentioned to you earlier that there’s someone who can answer your questions.”
Before knocking on Song Ci’s door, Yan Shixun turned back to the anxious Chi Xiao’ai and smiled, “He’s the one. Feel free to ask him any questions you have.”
“Chi Xiao’ai,” Yan Shixun whispered, “You have a place to go, don’t linger. Finish what you need to do and then leave.”
Chi Xiao’ai looked at Yan Shixun with confusion, not understanding why he would say such a thing.
Meanwhile, after opening the door, Song Ci noticed that Yan Shixun kept looking to the side. He couldn’t help but wonder, “Brother Yan, what are you looking at?”
Yan Shixun joined his index fingers together and silently recited the spell to open the Third Eye, causing a blur to pass over Song Ci’s eyes.
Song Ci suddenly felt everything in front of him become blurry, like his vision after using eye drops. When he blinked and looked again, he saw a girl standing next to Yan Shixun.
It was Chi Xiao’ai, whom he had recently seen in the records.
Song Ci was startled and took two steps back, stumbling over his slippers and falling awkwardly to the ground, staring at Chi Xiao’ai in disbelief.
Chi Xiao’ai gasped and hurried forward a few steps, instinctively reaching out to help Song Ci.
However, her arm passed through Song Ci’s body.
Chi Xiao’ai froze, looking down at her arm with a bewildered expression, as if suddenly realizing something.
Meanwhile, Song Ci, who had been insisting on experiencing Zhang Wubing’s situation and wanting to see ghosts, had a truly shocked expression now, with wide eyes filled with panic.
Only Yan Shixun calmly closed the door to the ward, leaving the space to the person and the ghost inside.
Song Ci: “!!”
Chi Xiao’ai: “??”
As Yan Shixun turned around, he bumped into a doctor hurrying out of the office.
The doctor seemed to be in a hurry, holding a medical record book and muttering something under his breath. Without even looking up, he collided with Yan Shixun’s shoulder.
“Sorry, sorry…” the doctor quickly apologized.
Yan Shixun quickly assessed the situation with his slender fingers and understood what had happened.
He didn’t let any hint of pain show on his injured shoulder from the collision, simply shaking his head calmly as he spoke to the doctor, “Hurry to the cafeteria. They’re serving your favorite braised eggplant today.”
Pausing for a moment, Yan Shixun added, “While you’re in a rush to check medical records, remember to take care of yourself too.”
The doctor thanked Yan Shixun and hurriedly continued on his way.
After a while, he suddenly stopped in confusion, wondering, “Strange, how did he know I like braised eggplant and that it’s available in the cafeteria?”
But the doctor’s mind was already preoccupied with surgical scenarios, so he didn’t dwell on it and kept walking.
Meanwhile, Yan Shixun stood in the corridor, watching the doctor disappear into the distance.
A cold aura approached.
“You advise other living beings to take care of themselves, but what about you?” the voice of Ye Li came, “Why don’t you take care of yourself?”
Yan Shixun lifted his eyelashes casually, leisurely extending his long legs as he prepared to return to his hospital room to see what meal Zhang Wubing’s mother had prepared for him today.
“I’m not important.”
The expression on Ye Li’s face darkened. “No, you are the most important.”
Without Yan Shixun, there would be no need for the Underworld to pay attention to the mortal realm.
For a moment, a thought of ruthlessness and indifference surfaced in Ye Li’s mind, then quickly submerged again.
“Why didn’t you tell that ghost that she’s already dead?” Ye Li naturally stepped forward, supporting Yan Shixun’s injured shoulder. “Why?”
Feeling the lingering pain from the recent collision, Yan Shixun didn’t resist Ye Li’s touch.
“She still holds hope, describing to me the beautiful scenes of the future. It would be too cruel for her to suddenly realize she’s dead.”
Yan Shixun’s voice was soft, almost sighing. “The world is unpredictable, fate plays tricks on us.”
“But for her, if she can make the person who killed her pay the price and continue her unfinished dreams in the next life, it would also be a satisfactory outcome.”
Yan Shixun said with a light laugh. “Perhaps in the next life, she will become the most dazzling idol as she wishes.”
Ye Li replied, “She will get what she deserves.”
“Since you are so hopeful for it.”
