Chapter 120: Therefore, I exist (6)
<Previous Chapter<Table of Contents>Next Chapter>
As one of the top private hospitals in Binhai City, this hospital has always relied on its capital of hiring excellent doctors, vigorously tackling illnesses, and ensuring absolute patient privacy.
Since the arrival of Yan Shixun and others, no media or unrelated individuals have been able to enter the hospital for unauthorized interviews. The hospital has maintained a serene environment conducive to recovery. It was the first time the guests had heard such commotion in the hospital, especially during the night when most patients were resting.
Therefore, after the noisy commotion in the corridor, many doors of the wards were opened, some out of curiosity and others out of annoyance.
Yan Shixun immediately flipped off the bed and rushed out of the room, heading straight for the location of the doctor’s office as he remembered it.
Since he had predicted that the doctor would face a catastrophe leading to casualties tonight, Yan Shixun had been closely monitoring the doctor. When the commotion erupted, his heart skipped a beat, almost instinctively assuming that something had happened to the doctor.
To his surprise, however, the doctor’s office door was tightly shut, with the lights turned off, indicating that he hadn’t stayed there as Yan Shixun had anticipated.
Where could he have gone?
Frowning, Yan Shixun turned around, scanning the surroundings, and realized where the commotion had originated from.
Almost all the doctors’ offices on the floor had been disturbed.
Whether they were engaged in research, working in laboratories, or on duty, all the doctors still in the hospital had been hastily summoned. They rushed from the corridors to the elevators, paying little attention to whether they might disturb the patients.
Even the slightest moment could mean life or death.
The person who had just rushed upstairs to call for help appeared frantic and worried, with his lab coat stained with blood as if he had just come from a crime scene.
He gasped for breath, hastily explaining the patient’s condition to the arriving doctors.
“…Twenty-six stab wounds, with damage to the heart, lungs, and brain. Broken ribs are piercing into the lungs. The situation is critical. They’re trying to stabilize him downstairs, but it doesn’t look good. Everyone, please do everything you can to save him. I’m counting on you!”
“You don’t even need to ask! He’s the hope of our department. Without him, any breakthrough in this field will have to wait for years!”
“I’m his senior! Even if it costs me my life, I’ll make sure he pulls through!”
Yan Shixun swiftly followed behind the doctors, overhearing only parts of their conversation, but it was enough for him to understand the current situation.
He stopped in front of the elevator, not hindering the doctors who could save lives rushing to the emergency scene. Instead, he noted the floor where the elevator stopped and waited for the next one.
The lobby, usually quiet and deserted, was now chaotic and noisy. Nurses and doctors hurriedly shuttled through the emergency hall, their faces filled with anxiety.
Yan Shixun keenly noticed the smooth, mirror-like floor with a long trail of dragged blood, stretching from outside into the lobby. The luxurious carpet and sofa in the reception area were stained with blood, as if someone had conducted emergency rescue efforts here, leaving the blankets rolled up and thrown aside.
However, he didn’t see the injured person’s figure, nor could he confirm whether the doctor he encountered earlier was the victim.
Or maybe, did that doctor just suddenly go home today? That’s why his office door is tightly shut.
Such a thought only flashed in Yan Shixun’s mind for a moment before his rationality suppressed it.
He wasn’t good at naivety and fantasy, even if fate was painful, he wanted to know if it had already become reality.
Among all the commotion, only Yan Shixun stood still.
He could hear the anxious voices of everyone running around him.
“The first operating room is ready! Doctor, doctor, come over here, your patient is here!”
“Are all the instruments ready?”
“Has the blood bank inventory been confirmed? The patient is losing a lot of blood, we must ensure an adequate supply!”
“The third operating room is open!”
“Notify the orthopedic doctors to head to Room Six!”
…
It seemed like all the nurses and doctors were mobilized.
Yan Shixun heard the phone at the front desk ringing, and when the nurse picked it up, the dissatisfaction on the other end was almost overflowing.
However, the nurse, who usually treated these wealthy and powerful individuals with kindness, was unusually firm tonight: “You just have a cold, but our doctors here are in a life-threatening situation! Please rest assured, you won’t die if no one chats with you. Our patient will die without a doctor!”
The nurse slammed the phone down heavily, but sitting behind the information desk, she could do nothing but watch her colleagues rushing past, feeling on the verge of tears herself.
Yan Shixun walked over and handed his handkerchief from his pocket, asking gently, “Why are so many operating rooms being opened in succession?”
The nurse originally didn’t want to bring her personal emotions into work, but the overwhelming feeling of urgency and helplessness almost crushed her. When someone comforted her, all the suppressed negative emotions almost burst out.
“A doctor from the hospital,” the nurse said, her eyes reddening, her voice choked with emotion. “He was stabbed more than twenty times, right at the hospital entrance.”
From the nurse’s halting narrative, Yan Shixun finally learned what had happened.
One of the doctor’s fellow colleagues happened to be nearby having dinner tonight. Since the doctor was too busy to join them, his teacher and colleagues decided to surprise him by visiting the hospital.
Little did they know, as the doctor hurried downstairs after receiving a call and engaged in a surprise conversation with his teacher and classmates on the street outside the hospital, a middle-aged man suddenly emerged from a nearby alleyway and rushed towards his teacher.
The situation unfolded too suddenly. In a panic, the doctor instinctively pulled his teacher behind him, but he himself was stabbed in the artery by the middle-aged man.
Blood gushed out, and his colleagues desperately tried to apply pressure to the wound to save him. However, the middle-aged man continued to wildly stab, causing five or six people present to be injured to varying degrees.
The most severely injured was the doctor from their hospital.
Twenty-six stab wounds, severe injuries to ten fingers, ruptured arteries, and serious damage to the heart and lungs.
If it weren’t for the fact that they were right at the hospital entrance, surrounded by medical experts, the doctor from their hospital would likely not have had a chance at emergency treatment.
And the commotion heard by Yan Shixun upstairs was precisely because there were multiple casualties with severe injuries. Other doctors were rushing upstairs to find colleagues from the corresponding departments, doing everything they could to save their colleague.
The young nurse sobbed uncontrollably, while Yan Shixun’s heart sank.
“What’s the name and department of that doctor?” Yan Shixun’s voice was trembling, barely audible.
After hearing the nurse’s tearful answer, Yan Shixun slowly widened his eyes, and his fingers, hanging by his side, twitched slightly.
It was… the doctor he had foreseen would face a fatal disaster.
Yan Shixun thanked the nurse and turned to walk towards the operating room.
But he was met with a cold yet firm embrace.
“What can you change by going there, Shixun?” Ye Li appeared behind Yanshixun at some point.
Ye Li reached out, gently pulling Yan Shixun’s arm closer, and looked down at the urgency and anger on Yan Shixun’s handsome face, feeling a slight sense of bewilderment.
It was rare to see such an expression of concern on Yan Shixun’s usually composed face.
Most of the time, Yan Shixun seemed to hold the world in his hands, facing dangers and despair with unwavering resilience.
But now, Yan Shixun was genuinely worried about the doctor’s life.
Ye Li lowered his raven-like eyelashes, noticing Yan Shixun’s bare feet standing on the marble floor, reddened from the cold of the late autumn night.
But Yan Shixun seemed oblivious to this fact, his expression stern as he attempted to bypass Ye Li. “Move aside!”
“You’re not a doctor, you can’t save lives,” Ye Li reached out to stop Yan Shixun. “What can you do at this time?”
“But there must be something I can do!” Yan Shixun’s gaze was unwavering, refusing to give up. “Even if it’s just increasing the odds slightly, even if it costs me my own luck…”
“You possess talents far beyond this era, but Shixun, even you, how can you save someone who is already dead?”
As Yan Shixun reached out to push Ye Li’s chest, his motion froze, and he looked up at Ye Li in astonishment.
“What do you mean?”
Ye Li released Yan Shixun’s arm and slowly crouched down, placing the slippers he was holding beside Yan Shixun. He spoke calmly, “Being a doctor is a profession that often involves a struggle with the underworld. Many times, death lurks beside the doctor in the operating room, and they both understand this. It’s a difficult tug-of-war between life and death. This is hard, but doctors never give up, even until the very last moment, clinging to the last thread of hope.”
“Shixun, many rescues are already the last flicker of hope in despair. But that doesn’t mean that life will always be saved.”
Ye Li straightened his back and glanced back at the bustling lobby.
The bloodstains on the floor gradually dried up, but no one had the time to deal with the mess.
Everyone’s thoughts were focused on the few people in the operating room.
They were their colleagues, juniors, mentors, people whose names they had heard and with whom they had fought together for life.
Everyone earnestly hoped for their recovery against all odds.
But, things don’t always go as planned.
“For him to have the chance to reach the operating table is the result of others’ best efforts. But, Shixun, his soul has already departed.”
Ye Li’s voice carried a strange calmness, even though he stood right in front of Yan Shixun, his voice seemed to come from a distant void.
“His name has appeared in Fengdu.”
Yan Shixun’s hand, which was originally resting on Ye Li’s arm, clenched instantly.
“But even so, there must be something I can do…”
“Shixun.”
Ye Li sighed, interrupting Yanshixun’s words. “Cast a divination.”
“I’m by your side, and the spirits cannot interfere with you during the ghost hour. You can cast a divination to consult with the heavens and earth.”
The ghost hour is not suitable for divination, as it angers the spirits.
But when Yan Shixun cast the divination, he felt no resistance, as if the heavens and earth approved of his actions. Yet his usually nimble fingers trembled so much that he could barely perform the calculations.
It was… an inevitable calamity, with no possibility of survival.
The doctor’s destiny had dissipated.
Yan Shixun had witnessed death many times before, and there were those who had gradually lost warmth in his arms, yet his eyes remained dry, unable to shed tears.
But this time, he still felt a tremendous wave of sorrow rising from the depths of his soul, gripping him tightly and making it almost impossible to breathe.
Ye Li sighed softly, opening his arms to embrace Yan Shixun. “Go and see that doctor one last time. The Yin official won’t come until he’s ready to leave.”
Yan Shixun swallowed hard, refraining from asking Ye Li how he knew all this. He simply nodded hoarsely. “Okay.”
The lights were on in the operating room, while in the glaringly white corridor, only one middle-aged, refined man sat slumped on a bench, trembling hands clutching his head, his shoulders sagging as if unable to bear the weight of the world.
Yan Shixun approached the man and sat down gently beside him.
“The surgery is likely to take a while. Would you like to talk?” He lowered his gaze slightly, pausing briefly when he noticed the bloodstains on the man’s clothes before offering him a cup of hot water.
Although he was not in the mood and his mind was in disarray, unable to even make sense of the situation, the refined man accepted the hot water out of habit. When he tried to thank the person, he found his throat so hoarse that he could barely speak.
“Thank you. The surgery will take another two hours. I’m familiar with his injuries and his lead surgeon.”
“Are you a patient at the hospital?” The refined man also noticed the hospital gown on Yan Shixun.
Yan Shixun nodded, maintaining a calm demeanor. “I couldn’t sleep because of the pain. So I came to chat and pass the time. Would you like to keep me company?”
The man hesitated, all the students lying in the operating room for emergency treatment, and even his favorite and most valued student being stabbed twenty-six times in order to save him, had left his mind in such chaos that he couldn’t think straight, unable to distinguish between reality and a waking nightmare.
But he was also a doctor, and when a patient reached out to him, professional ethics made it impossible for him to refuse.
So he nodded. “Sure, but I’m not sure what to talk about.”
“I…”
The man shook his head with a wry smile. “Sorry, my mind is all over the place. I don’t know what to say. Should I start by asking for your name?”
“No need.”
Yan Shixun patted the man’s shoulder, and taking advantage of the moment, his slender fingers swiftly drew a calming symbol on the man’s body. “Well then, let’s just chat casually. Are the people in the operating room familiar to you?”
The man could feel a calm force entering his body, gradually stabilizing the anxious and confused emotions he had just felt.
Perhaps having someone to confide in provided an outlet for his emotions.
The man didn’t dwell on it, simply offering a reasonable explanation based on his familiar theories.
He blinked back tears and spoke, pushing back the tears in his eyes. “Inside… they’re my students.”
“All six operating rooms… they all are,” he choked out. “The injured are students I’ve personally guided, and some of the lead surgeons are students I’ve taught. I’m a professor at Binhai University Medical School. Today was supposed to be a rare day off, and I had plans to meet with a few students. Who would have thought…”
“If he wanted to kill me, I’d rather have died there on the spot than endure this punishment.”
His lips trembled so much that it was almost difficult for him to speak normally. “For a teacher to see all the students he’s nurtured for over a decade, who are like family to him, lying in the operating room… it’s more agonizing than being killed. And… and that student of mine…”
As if instinctively seeking help, the man turned to look at Yan Shixun, his eyes filled with sorrow. “The child’s tendons were all cut, twenty-six wounds… Imagine the pain. It’s all my fault!”
Yan Shixun had intended to say, “It’s not your fault.” But as he was about to console the man, he noticed a hand gently resting on the man’s shoulder.
However, the man seemed oblivious, and there was no shadow on the ground.
Yan Shixun froze, looking up to see the familiar figure standing behind the man, smiling without a trace of sorrow as he looked at him.
It was the doctor.
“Teacher, it’s not your fault. You don’t need to blame yourself,” the doctor reassured the man, searching for the right words. “And all of you, my teachers and classmates, did your best to save me. I know that, and I’m grateful to have had the chance to be your student.”
As if recalling a funny memory, the doctor burst into laughter, with a nostalgic expression on his face. He sighed and said, “Back when I was in my final year of undergraduate studies, I was such a clueless student. I couldn’t even remember to eat, but it was you, teacher, who scolded me and made me realize that if I wanted to save others, I had to take care of myself first. And then you had your wife make braised eggplant for me. And then when I was doing my master’s, and even during my Ph.D…. I don’t think I ever told you how happy I was when I saw the list of Ph.D. candidates and realized I was still your student.”
The doctor spoke at length, but the man couldn’t hear anything, still burdened with painful self-blame.
Yan Shixun was stunned, calling out softly, “Doctor…”
Both the man and the doctor looked up at Yan Shixun.
The doctor pointed at Yan Shixun in surprise and said, “You can see me? Wait, it’s you! The gentleman who mentioned the braised eggplant in the cafeteria at noon!”
“Ah, I think I promised you not to go out,” the doctor scratched his head sheepishly. “Now looking back, what you said at noon seems to have been right.”
With a wry smile, the doctor raised his hand. “But there was no other choice. That person was coming for my teacher. Could I just stand by and watch my teacher get hurt? I’m young and can recover quickly, so it’s better for me to handle it.”
“Then you let yourself end up like this?” Yan Shixun’s eyes reflected sadness. “I arrived too late.”
The doctor waved his hand. “With the artery rupture, even getting a chance on the operating table was a stroke of luck for me. It’s not your fault, sir, you already reminded me. If anyone’s to blame…”
He shrugged. “I hope they’ve caught that assailant. From what my classmates said, he’d been following my teacher for weeks, just waiting for a chance to harm him. Although I’m a doctor, I also have a bit of selfishness. Sorry, but I hope he’s caught and can’t harm my teacher again in the future.”
“I assure you, I will.” Yan Shixun murmured softly. “I’ve missed the chance to save you already, how could I let the culprit get away?”
The man, his thoughts scrambled, finally realized that Yan Shixun seemed to be talking to someone else.
“You.” The man hesitated, quickly following Yan Shixun’s gaze behind him, but there was nobody there.
“Who are you talking to?”
Yan Shixun’s gaze shifted to the man in front of him, unaware that his student, who had already been unsuccessfully resuscitated, was dead. He then turned to the doctor behind him and asked, “Do you want to talk to your teacher?”
The man looked at Yan Shixun with a bewildered expression.
The doctor, surprised, asked, “Is it possible?”
Yan Shixun nodded. “You can stay here temporarily until you want to leave. However, don’t linger for too long. You’ve already passed away, and exposure to earthly yang energy would be too damaging for you.”
The doctor immediately brightened up. “That’s great! I was just worried about not having had the chance to document my research findings after I passed away. The research team would need that data, and it would take them several more months without it. Now, I can share that data with my teacher, along with some of my ideas and directions.”
Even in death, the desire to see their research through to its conclusion, to help more people…
Yan Shixun’s throat felt tight, almost too choked up to speak.
He nodded immediately and silently recited the spell to open the third eye, then gestured before the man’s eyes.
The man looked at Yan Shixun with confusion, unsure of his intentions.
Then, he saw a corner of a white coat emerge from the edge of his field of vision. Looking up, he saw his student, who should have been lying in the operating room, smiling brightly and foolishly at him.
It was like many years ago when he first saw this student at Binhai Medical College.
Talented and hardworking, yet willing to push himself to the brink of exhaustion, even to the point of fainting from low blood sugar, which made him both amused and angry.
“You…” The man glanced at the operating room, but the door remained closed. When he saw the translucent figure of his student, almost transparent enough to see the wall behind him, he suddenly realized what was happening.
His eyes welled up, tears streaming uncontrollably. “You…”
“Hey, teacher,” the doctor greeted with a bright smile, waving at him. “Today marks our ten-year graduation anniversary, but it seems like none of us can go home with a smile.”
Yan Shixun quietly stood up, leaving the space to the teacher and his student.
A passing nurse, observing the man muttering to himself, sighed sympathetically. “What a situation.”
Yan Shixun stopped her, preventing her from approaching. “The gentleman probably wants some time alone now. Let’s go over there.”
The nurse sighed again, nodding and turning to take a different path.
Ye Li maintained the posture he had when Yan Shixun left, standing tall and straight under the lobby’s crystal chandelier, easily noticeable to Yan Shixun as soon as he entered.
“Are you angry?” Ye Li asked softly as Yan Shixun approached. “I declined your offer, I’m sorry. I can change many things, but the boundary between life and death, even the Dao cannot cross. Life and death naturally separate two worlds.”
Yan Shixun shook his head slowly and whispered, “Thank you.”
Ye Li looked at him in surprise, not expecting to receive such an answer.
“It’s the work of the Underworld,” Yan Shixun said with a hint of a smile on his pallid lips. “Although I couldn’t save him, providing them with time to talk alone is still a good opportunity.”
“I set up a simple gathering formation in the operating room. The other doctors should soon be out of danger,” Yan Shixun continued softly.
“They didn’t deserve any of this,” his voice barely above a whisper.
Ye Li had initially thought Yan Shixun might blame him for the doctor’s death, especially considering Yan Shixun’s profound respect for life. But he didn’t expect Yan Shixun to have such a deep understanding of life and death, which made Ye Li feel somewhat uncomfortable.
He tilted his head slightly, as if listening to a voice coming from the void. Then he nodded and turned his gaze back to Yan Shixun, saying, “Don’t worry, the surgeons in the operating room are all excellent doctors. They won’t let the Underworld snatch lives from their hands. The other doctors will also make it out safely.”
Yan Shixun nodded in acknowledgment. “Although I’m not sure how you know all this, thank you.”
“Wait.” When Yan Shixun attempted to walk past him, Ye Li reached out and grasped his wrist.
Yan Shixun turned back, puzzled.
Ye Li then took off his black suit jacket and draped it over Yan Shixun’s shoulders. “You came down here only wearing pajamas, your wounds haven’t fully healed, and it’s windy outside. Be careful not to worsen your injuries.”
Yan Shixun wanted to refuse, but Ye Li gently pressed the jacket onto his shoulders. “The livings are fragile. Do you want to get sick and burden the already busy doctors?”
His hand paused, and he could only nod and say, “Thank you.”
Earlier, Yan Shixun had comforted the receptionist nurse, which helped stabilize her emotions. Feeling embarrassed about her earlier tearful outburst, she mentally berated herself for it.
So when Yan Shixun returned and asked her if the assailant had been apprehended, the nurse, her face flushed with embarrassment, quickly pointed in the direction.
“When the incident happened, hospital security apprehended the culprit. The authorities have arrived, and they’ve taken over the situation. They’re currently conducting investigations in the courtyard.”
Yan Shixun thanked her and turned to leave.
The late autumn night was cold, and despite wearing Ye Li’s coat, Yan Shixun still shivered involuntarily when he felt the chill of the cold air. He instinctively pulled the coat tighter around himself.
Did Ye Li know he needs to go out to do something?
The question briefly crossed Yan Shixun’s mind, but he quickly refocused his attention on the scene before him.
Red and blue lights flickered in the spacious courtyard, casting a clear yet ominous glow on the bloodstains on the ground. Several uniformed individuals were either standing or crouching, investigating the traces.
Nearby, in a parked car, muffled voices of agitation could be heard.
In the next moment, the car door was forcefully pushed open, and a uniformed officer with a grim expression stepped out, the sound of cursing clearly audible behind him.
The officer had initially intended to step out for some fresh air to calm himself down, lest his anger drive him to do something against regulations—like giving that guy a beating.
Did that guy even realize how many doctors’ careers he ruined? Several doctors had their hands injured, and even if they recovered, they would never regain the same level of dexterity with a scalpel as before.
Twenty years of hard study, millions of investment costs, all nearly went down the drain. Those young doctors were all very talented, and perhaps because of this, many patients would lose their chance of being saved.
Feeling stifled, the uniformed officer instinctively reached for his cigarette pack, intending to smoke one nearby.
But he was suddenly called by name.
Looking up, the officer saw Yan Shixun wearing a black coat, standing calmly amidst the red and blue lights, like the King of Hell coming to guide lost souls under the cover of night.
“Brother Yan?” The officer walked up with surprise. “What are you doing here?”
He remembered almost being pushed down and killed by a murder turned into a malevolent ghost during an investigation before. It was Yan Shixun who happened to be chasing after that murderer-ghost at the time and saved him.
Grateful for Yan Shixun’s help, he wanted to express his gratitude, but Yan Shixun didn’t accept any payment, just leaving his contact information before walking away.
The officer took a few steps, suddenly realizing something. “Brother …Yan is it because there are ghost of the deceased here? Who… was it the doctor who was sent to emergency just now?”
Yan Shixun remained silent.
But that was already the best answer.
A wave of sadness washed over the face of the officer. “Heavens… How could this happen?”
“I know this is against protocol, but… could I have a talk with him?” Yan Shixun nodded towards the car. “Five minutes.”
The officer knew who Yan Shixun was referring to. Without hesitation, he agreed, and as he walked with Yan Shixun towards the car, he explained the situation briefly.
The middle-aged man who committed the assault had been a patient at the affiliated hospital of Binhai University six months ago. He harbored resentment towards that teacher because at the time, that teacher was his attending physician.
Despite spending a lot of money, his illness was not cured, and even his wife divorced him because she couldn’t bear his alcoholism. So, the middle-aged man came to hate that teacher, believing that the teacher had taken his money but failed to treat him, leading to his current plight.
Inside the car, the middle-aged man continued to curse loudly: “I spent money! A whopping thirty thousand! I went into the hospital as a decent person, why didn’t they cure me before kicking me out? My wife left because of him, he ruined my family! It’s only fair that he pays with his life!”
The officer endured and endured, but eventually, his fist slammed against the car door, gritting his teeth as he said, “I checked with Binhai Hospital. For your condition, the standard treatment costs over a million. That doctor applied for financial aid for you, risked using cheaper but effective medications not covered by the plan, took the risk of lawsuits, saved you from many tests, and even subsidized you out of his own pocket. You only spent thirty thousand. He did his best! How dare you say such things about him!”
The middle-aged man shouted back, “They’re all useless quacks! My neighbor said I could cure my illness with a quantum mattress for less than two hundred bucks. That money must have all gone into his pocket, you’re all in cahoots!”
The officer almost burst out laughing at the absurdity, his anger surging as he wanted to raise his hand and hit the middle-aged man.
The middle-aged man recoiled, shouting even louder, “The police are beating people! Come and see, the police are beating someone!”
“Damn it! Are you even human? I’m in uniform, and you still want to…”
*Smack!*
The officer’s arm, raised halfway, was firmly grabbed by a hand reaching from the side, preventing him from moving forward.
Confused, he turned his head to see Yan Shixun looking at him calmly, his expression unreadable.
“Brother Yan?”
Yan Shixun glanced at the other uniformed personnel beside him and remarked, “It’s autumn, and there are so many mosquitoes.”
The others immediately caught on, agreeing, “Exactly, he was just swatting mosquitoes.”
“Some disgusting mosquitoes indeed need a smack, sucking blood and cursing at people. Pah! What nonsense?”
Yan Shixun’s expression turned into a smirk as he looked at the officer before him. “Keep that uniform on.”
Stepping forward, he blocked the light from outside with his tall figure, casting a shadow over the scene. Standing against the light, his cold features were partially obscured in the darkness, and his words were chilling, devoid of any warmth.
“I specialize in saving people in danger and guiding souls to where they should go. That doctor and I are in the same line of work, just that he saves the living, and I save the spirits. Of course, there are occasional exceptions, like now.”
“I’m very good at exorcising and capturing ghosts, but few people know about it.”
With a tilt of his head, Yan Shixun looked down at the middle-aged man with eyes as cold and sharp as blades, almost capable of slicing through flesh piece by piece.
“In fact, I’m also quite skilled at stealing people’s luck and cursing the living.”
His voice was cold, but every word was firm: “Your sins will haunt you forever. You won’t die immediately; you’ll live for a few more years. But in the time that follows, every minute and every second, you’ll be tormented by what you’ve done. Day and night, they will cling to you, until they consume your last shred of vitality.”
“Perhaps you don’t care now, but as time passes, you’ll begin to fear every unknown corner, every ghost in the darkness. Wherever you go, a hundred ghosts will wail, seeking to take your life. Those whom you indirectly harmed, the lives that couldn’t be saved because you killed the doctor, they will know you as the mastermind of it all. They will seek revenge with hearts full of hatred.”
The middle-aged man’s previously indifferent expression froze as Yan Shixun spoke, and with each word, his gaze turned from indifference to terror, his body trembling.
Nervously, the middle-aged man glanced at the darkness beside him, swallowing hard as if lurking within were sinister spirits.
Yan Shixun looked at him coldly, the anger in his heart turning into icy curses. “When you finally meet death—don’t rejoice, for your true torment is just beginning.”
“You will plunge into the depths of Fengdu Hell, enduring every punishment, hated by a legion of ghosts seeking vengeance. You will die repeatedly, but never find release.”
“Your name won’t be on the cycle of reincarnation; your soul will never see the light of day again. And in that agony and darkness, you will finally come to realize…”
With his last sentence, Yan Shixun’s voice softened: “The extent of your sins.”
As his words faded, golden letters suddenly formed a ring, flashing briefly around Yan Shixun before vanishing.
The heavens and earth responded to Yan Shixun’s words.
The curse he uttered transformed into the rules of the heavens and earth for this man. Every scenario he described would become reality.
The middle-aged man finally stared blankly, his eyes filled with terror as he kept stepping back, trying to put distance between them.
“You lunatic, you’re insane!”
— When an exorcist is enraged, even the King of Hell would avoid his wrath and flee the battlefield.
All protective measures would turn into means of harm, and all goodwill would become icy fury. He disregarded consequences, only seeking justice for the deceased.
Those who kill shall be killed——!
But Yan Shixun turned away indifferently, not sparing another glance at the middle-aged man.
He nodded coldly at the dumbfounded officer, then strode away with icy determination.
Ye Li continued to stand at the entrance of the hall, observing every move of Yan Shixun.
The chilly autumn breeze tousled Yan Shixun’s stray hair, causing him to squint, feeling the grip of sadness tightening around his heart, making him feel bitter and uncomfortable.
With a sigh, Ye Li opened his arms and embraced Yan Shixun.
This time, Yan Shixun, with a heavy heart, didn’t refuse.
“Every word you speak becomes a seal.”
Ye Li lowered his head slightly, and like a gentle breeze, he placed a kiss on Yan Shixun’s hair.
“Your curses will become reality.”
…
Zhang Wubing scratched his head in confusion as he held the contract. “Brother Yan, you want the settlement of the next episode in advance?”
“Yeah.”
Yan Shixun stood with one hand in his pocket, casting his gaze downward at the elderly couple crying downstairs.
The parents of the doctor had just received a large anonymous donation, equivalent to the pay for a top-rated variety show episode.
Although it couldn’t alleviate the pain of losing their son…
Life had to go on.
