The morning sun rose from the edge of the distant peaks, casting its light across the earth. It also added a touch of warmth to the man’s otherwise pale, bloodless face, which lacked any hint of color. His cold and sharp features, though handsome, now carried a hint of vitality, as if the deity had acquired a touch of humanity, descending from the imposing yet chilling divine platform.
Stepping into the mortal realm.
Initially, when Yan Shixun had casually asked the man a question due to his peculiar appearance, the man had remained silent while staring at him. Combined with their previous playful encounter, Yan Shixun had found the situation inexplicable, merely casting a fleeting glance at the man before planning to turn around and continue his phone call with Zhang Wubing, curious to see how the guy who had encountered ghosts once again was doing.
“Yan……Shixun.” However, the man suddenly called out to Yan Shixun.
He took slow steps, approaching Yan Shixun, and revealed his face without the duckbill cap. His long, black hair cascaded naturally over his strong and sturdy shoulders, gently curling and flowing, but without a hint of femininity. Instead, it added to his imposing presence, making his already cold and sharp features appear even more awe-inspiring.
His narrow, obsidian eyes, now focused on Yan Shixun, had a slight glimmer, like the sun reflecting off a gently rippling sea, radiating a sparkling light.
“You asked me a question just now, and I haven’t answered it yet,” the man said, his thin lips curving into a smile. “I failed to fulfill my promise, leaving your wish unfulfilled. How can I let your question remain unanswered?”
Yan Shixun arched an eyebrow, raising his gaze to meet the man’s. His attention was once again fully on him, eager to hear what he had to say.
Then, he heard the man utter his name in a deep, magnetic voice, a brief yet unwavering declaration.
“I am called Ye Li.”
At the very moment, the man’s words fell, Yan Shixun could clearly sense the ground beneath them, the vast wilderness of the Wild Wolf Peak, tremble for a moment. It was as if it couldn’t bear the weight any longer, faltering as though it was supporting something unbearably heavy. The earth emitted a faint “crack” as it gave a weak groan. The air, too, seemed to freeze momentarily. All the flowing winds and light came to a standstill, afraid to move forward, as if there were a presence ahead that instilled fear and commanded respect.
Far away, the Yin officials who had already led all the departed souls away, their souls bound by soul-locking chains, also stopped in their tracks, trembling. They dared not leave but also dared not turn back to confirm. The sound of the soul-locking chains clanging together suddenly grew chaotic.
The souls of the villagers, following the lead of the Yin officials, also halted their steps, gazing around in confusion.
The sun was about to rise into the sky, and as it finally moved beyond the shadows of the mountains, bathing the land in unfiltered sunlight, everything—both the Yin officials and the souls of the villagers—would suffer irreversible harm due to the overwhelming Yang energy.
However, despite this, the Yin officers continued to sweat profusely, trembling as they dared not make any movements.
Sensing the unusual atmosphere around him, the man, with his keen perception, soon noticed Yan Shixun’s alertness. He casually lifted his ink-black eyelashes, casting a nonchalant glance to the side.
Immediately, the majestic aura that had pervaded the air dissipated completely, and the tension that had built up due to the mention of the name was released.
The refreshing mountain breeze flowed freely again, dispelling the oppressive feeling that had hung in the air.
The Yin officers, who were usually arrogant and confident when dealing with humans, were now fleeing in a disheveled panic, not daring to look back.
All of this was caused by just a real name, demonstrating its immense power.
However, Yan Shixun did not connect the unusual occurrences around him with the man. After a moment of confusion, he temporarily attributed the disturbance to the transition of the old and new Mountain God of Wild Wolf Peak. After all, only a recognized god of heaven and earth could cause such widespread anomalies.
Once Wild Wolf Peak had returned to normal, the seriousness on Yan Shixun’s face faded away. He raised an eyebrow and looked at the man, saying, “I thought you were afraid to tell me your name, so I tactfully didn’t press you for it. But now you’ve willingly told me your name?”
The man raised an eyebrow in surprise and asked with a smile, “Why would I be afraid?”
It seemed that he had never experienced such an emotion. Throughout his existence, he had only seen fear in the eyes of those who encountered him, but he had always remained indifferent, never experiencing fear himself.
Between heaven and earth, there was nothing worthy of his fear.
With a hint of a smile on his lips, Yan Shixun pointed at himself and said, “Didn’t you see it? I’ve been dealing with the dead and spirits for years like those ordinary folks call it, a ‘master of Yin and Yang,’ a feng shui master, a sorcerer. Haven’t you heard of the folklore that says if you anger someone who knows magic, they might curse you with a voodoo doll? It’s not just a legend; as long as I have your name, birthdate, and a strand of your hair, I can curse you with a voodoo doll, the ‘Yansheng Art.'”
“Considering that you’ve teased me before, and I have a bit of a bad temper, your fear is understandable.”
The fact that he had released all the villagers from the control of the evil entity put Yan Shixun in a good mood. The soft-heartedness he had displayed while talking to the kind young woman hadn’t entirely faded. This mood change made Yan Shixun, who had a somewhat irritable disposition when dealing with the man, feel like teasing him.
When he heard Yan Shixun trying to intimidate him like a child afraid of the dark, the man not only showed no fear but responded with a playful tone, “So, can you do it?”
Yan Shixun shrugged casually, teasing him with a wicked heart, “I couldn’t say for sure before, but now that I know your name, I can give it a try the next time I find you disagreeable. Actually, the folklore isn’t entirely accurate. All you need is someone’s name and knowledge of their appearance to meet the basic requirements for the Yansheng Art, allowing one to cast curses.”
“Besides, I’m a bit different from those scholars in formal academies. I’ve dabbled in various things.”
Yan Shixun, unusually intrigued and playfully resembling the big bad wolf scaring Little Red Riding Hood, looked at the man’s face, trying to discern any changes in his expression. He continued, “From the remote southwest border to the frigid northeast snow forests, I’ve traveled all across, and I’ve dabbled in many of the folk tricks along the way. I’ve learned Lu Ban’s techniques, and experimented with shamanism, and not just the Yansheng Art – I have various methods to curse people. I simply haven’t had much chance to try them out before. With you around, the next time I find an opportunity, I might just give it a shot.”
However, the expression of fear that Yan Shixun was expecting from the man did not appear.
The man felt that as he talked about his experiences and what he had learned with Yan Shixun, not only did it make him marvel at how exceptional and knowledgeable the exorcist in the mortal world could be, but it also stirred a hidden feeling within him.
Yan Shixun was like a cat proudly showing off its claws, delightfully displaying a feline’s fluffy ears when he got excited. He appeared so cute and proud.
It’s…….surprisingly cute.
The man’s gaze towards Yan Shixun softened, and a smile seemed on the verge of breaking through his once cold and indifferent eyes.
“Wow, that’s impressive,” the man nodded with a smile. Instead of fear, he had an expression of admiration and even a hint of excitement in his eyes. “Next time, you have to give it a try.”
Seeing the unexpected reaction from the man, Yan Shixun raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised.
But then he remembered that this director’s assistant named Ye Li had recently accompanied him to the main hall of the Mountain God Temple, witnessed the procession of spirits, and even saved him in the main hall. Back then, Ye Li had remained quite calm and hadn’t shown much fear. It was likely that he belonged to the category of people with a bit more courage.
After all, evil spirits fear strong-willed individuals, and if a person doesn’t exhibit fear, evil spirits have no opening to exploit.
With this in mind, Yan Shixun understood and didn’t pay too much attention to the man’s reaction.
However, the recent conversation with the man had a calming effect on Yan Shixun’s already good mood. The pleasant chat and the man’s praise even improved Yan Shixun’s perception of him. He was no longer as irritable as when they first met; he found the man more agreeable.
Exiting the gentle and happy state of mind from their conversation, Yan Shixun quickly adjusted his mindset and regained his composure.
Although the deceased villagers had already been sent away, the matter concerning Wild Wolf Peak was far from over. He remembered the evil entity that had escaped from the mural during the collapse of the statue in the main hall of the Mountain God Temple. Furthermore, the safety of the rest of the production crew had not been confirmed.
Yan Shixun contemplated these matters, and his demeanor turned cold and stern.
Just then, a loud sobbing sound interrupted Yan Shixun’s thoughts.
He looked down and realized that the phone call he had made to Zhang Wubing had never been disconnected and was still on speaker.
On the other end of the call, Zhang Wubing was trembling and, with a tearful voice, asked, “B-B-Brother Yan, you can curse people in so many ways? I didn’t know before.”
“I’m sorry, Brother Yan! I was disrespectful to you earlier, always bothering you and even crying on your clothes. I know I was wrong, I won’t dare to do it again. Brother Yan, please don’t curse me. I’ll be very well-behaved. I’ll do whatever you say, Brother Yan, please don’t curse me, wuuwuwuwuwu!”
After a loud wail from Zhang Wubing, he continued to cry and express his loyalty to Yan Shixun. It was clear that he had been frightened by what he had heard when Yan Shixun mentioned that he knew various folk methods.
Yan Shixun: “…”
The person Yan Shixun had originally wanted to scare wasn’t scared at all and hadn’t even remembered his presence. Instead, Zhang Wubing was now overwhelmed by fear.
Yan Shixun clicked his tongue in disdain, his tongue against his upper palate, and sighed, “Don’t worry, Zhang Dabing. If I wanted to curse you, I would have done it a long time ago. You were already a nuisance back in college when you disturbed me while I was sleeping. If I really disliked you, you wouldn’t have lived to graduate.”
“A brain like yours isn’t suitable for worrying about such matters. You should go to the hospital and get your head checked.”
Yan Shixun snorted and, after confirming that Zhang Wubing was out of danger, hung up the phone.
Since the signal had been restored, Yan Shixun immediately called the lost director’s car and the logistics car to ensure that they were all safe.
“Next…..”
Yan Shixun’s eyes flashed with determination. “It’s time to deal with that evil creature.”
Without eliminating the evil creature, the matter at Wild Wolf Peak could not be considered resolved!
