Chapter 53: The King of Hell’s Wedding (33)
“I’ll die. If I get discovered, I’ll definitely die!” Sun Bin crouched furtively under the bed, looking utterly hopeless as he stared at Jian Yuntai. With tears in his eyes, he asked, “If Cui Yu finds me, what do I do? Boss, you’ll plead for me, right?”
Jian Yuntai suddenly looked surprised. “Cui Yu?”
Sun Bin was instantly shaken to his core and quickly shrank farther under the bed. Then he heard Jian Yuntai sigh regretfully, “I have no idea how he ended up under the bed. I never would’ve thought that Sun Bin, who looks so timid on the surface, would secretly dare to do something so bold!”
Sun Bin felt like he’d been struck by lightning. “…………”
How could you be this ruthless?!
Just as his vision went black and he felt that even dying miserably wouldn’t be the worst of it—he might even get whipped after death—the room remained completely silent. After hiding there for nearly ten minutes, he finally gathered the courage to crawl out a little.
He looked up. The room was empty. Only Jian Yuntai sat by the table, calmly sipping tea.
“W-where’s Cui Yu?”
“He didn’t come. I was messing with you.”
“……” Two murky streams of tears rolled down Sun Bin’s face. Once again, he thought of his beloved political elite father. Before he could reminisce about his father’s kind and generous embrace—and money, money, money—Jian Yuntai struck him mercilessly again. “If Cui Yu does find out, I’ll say exactly what I just said. Got it?”
Sun Bin froze. “Got what?”
With a light clink, Jian Yuntai set the lid back on the teacup and said gently, “So you’d better not get discovered. Lie under the bed like a corpse. It’d be best if you didn’t even breathe.”
“…………”
If I don’t breathe, wouldn’t I really become a corpse?!
Sun Bin collapsed back under the bed in despair. When he opened his mouth, it felt like wisps of ghostly souls might float out. He felt like he’d boarded a pirate ship. Jian Yuntai was the most black-hearted merchant on board, and he himself was like the runaway Little Swallow from My Fair Princess, tears silently streaming down his cheeks. His tears were even heavier than the rain on the day Yiping went to ask her father for money.
Jian Yuntai’s voice drifted in from outside. “Are you crying?”
Sun Bin trembled and said through tears, “No.”
“That’s good.” Jian Yuntai chuckled softly. “If you cry, your nose will get stuffy. That’ll make it easier for Cui Yu to notice.”
Sun Bin: “……” qaq!
Dad! I want to go home, boohoohoo!
※※※
Cui Yu returned very late.
Jian Yuntai had eaten dinner alone and even finished reading the entire little yellow book in the bedchamber before Cui Yu finally arrived.
He stepped into the hall, his outer robe sweeping back and lifting his white hair, forming a magnificent and noble image like snowy mountains and rivers. A fierce cold wind blew in from outside, making the candlelight flicker.
Jian Yuntai closed the book and looked up. “Was it troublesome?”
Cui Yu responded with a low “Mm.” After removing his outer robe to dispel the scent of blood, he stepped closer. “Diao Shan was gravely injured. He’s almost gone.”
Jian Yuntai asked, “What about his destined person?”
Cui Yu shook his head. “Won’t survive either.”
“……” Jian Yuntai frowned slightly. “Who was his destined person?”
The viewers had already been jumping back and forth between the two livestreams all afternoon, desperate for Jian Yuntai to find out that Fatty was in trouble. They had tried using Likes and dislikes nonstop, but Jian Yuntai hadn’t responded.
He had even suspected they were collectively having a stroke.
Now that he finally asked the question, everyone let out a sigh of relief. At last, he would find out!
They relaxed too soon.
Cui Yu thought for a moment, then said flatly, “Didn’t remember the name.”
“qaq Fatty didn’t even deserve a name in Cui Yu’s eyes.”
“Forget Cui Yu, I don’t even remember Fatty’s real name. Was his last name Li? Or Wang? I got used to calling him Fatty like Jian Dadan did. Tears.”
“What Li or Wang? I’d say Zhang Qian at this rate. His last name is Chen. He’s Chen Sanxian. His soul contract value is down to the thirties and still dropping fast. That’s not even the worst part. The key is that Diao Shan got his throat bitten by Jinjin. He definitely won’t make it. Once he dies, Chen Sanxian will be buried with him.”
“I’m getting scared. If Jian Dadan goes over tomorrow morning, Fatty’s body might already be cold. They were roommates and had a good relationship. Jian Dadan’s going to be devastated.”
“Damn, I thought it was just a minor conflict. How did it get this bad?”
“It’s bad. Very bad. Extremely bad. Go take a look—Diao Shan’s throat was bitten clean through. Some Sinister Spirit Type viewers over there said he won’t make it through the night.”
“So Fatty’s basically doomed?”
Marrying his own younger sister and then hiding her corpse under the bed after her death—it was indeed bizarre. Jian Yuntai was about to ask more when he suddenly noticed Cui Yu glance toward the underside of the bed, his thin lips pressing together slightly—
With a loud thud, Jian Yuntai sprang up and shoved Cui Yu onto the bed, knocking off his shoes. His eyes burned as he asked, “Want to sleep?”
“……” Cui Yu looked at him without blinking, his expression calm, betraying no extra emotion.
With Cui Yu’s keen perception, Jian Yuntai couldn’t be sure whether he had noticed someone under the bed. He could only try to distract him. “Are we putting a bowl of water in the middle of the bed again tonight?”
Cui Yu replied slowly, “You want to put water?”
His tone was strange—his voice lower and rougher than usual, his pale eyes darkening slightly.
The viewers trembled.
“Damn, did he already notice? Sun Bin hid so well—how did he figure it out?”
“There’s an extra breathing sound in the room. Could Cui Yu think Jian Dadan is hiding someone in a golden house?”
“Hahaha and hiding them in Cui Yu’s own room too. Diao Shan just hid his ex-wife’s corpse under the bed earlier. If I were Cui Yu, I’d already be wondering if I got cheated on.”
“Pfft hahaha. Maybe he didn’t notice. Maybe he just feels wife is too close and got nervous.”
Compared to the viewers’ panic, Jian Yuntai showed extraordinary composure. There wasn’t a trace of flaw on his face. “Let’s still put the bowl of water.”
He immediately got up, brought over the bowl of water prepared earlier, and placed it neatly in the center of the bed.
Throughout the process, Cui Yu kept his gaze lowered toward the bedboards. Time passed second by second. No one could see his expression or know what he was thinking.
After a long while, he let out an almost inaudible cold laugh and cast a chilling glance at the bedboard. When he looked up at Jian Yuntai again, all emotion had been suppressed, leaving only softened gentleness.
“You didn’t sleep at all last night. I won’t trouble you tonight. Sleep earlier.”
Jian Yuntai instantly recalled the mortifying scene from last night and flushed red. He forced himself to nod calmly.
“Okay.”
Jian Yuntai agreed easily, but Sun Bin under the bed had already begun mourning himself.
—That terrifying killing intent just now… Cui Yu had definitely discovered him!
He wasn’t dragging him out immediately because he didn’t want to argue with Jian Yuntai. Once Jian Yuntai fell asleep, Cui Yu would quietly get up and kill him.
That had to be it!
The thought nearly made Sun Bin roll his eyes and faint on the spot. He didn’t dare make a single sound and secretly activated his skill under the bed.
Stay calm. Stay calm.
As long as Cui Yu fell asleep quickly, he wouldn’t die.
Normally, Sun Bin needed at least an hour to activate his skill. But this time, perhaps driven by survival instinct, he broke through in crisis. In just forty minutes, he activated it and drew the two bosses on the bed into a dream one after the other.
Hearing their steady, even breathing, Sun Bin let out a huge sigh of relief.
He had been in this instance for three months and hadn’t slept well even once. When helping other veteran players clear Do Not Speak of the Past, he always had to find ways to make the destined person sleep during the day.
Now, thanks to Jian Yuntai, he could finally enjoy a sweet night’s sleep.
“Amen,” Sun Bin muttered under the bed, thinking excitedly, Jian Yuntai, do your best. I’m going to sleep first, hehe!
……
Entering the dream felt strange. Jian Yuntai clearly remembered tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. It was as if someone had suddenly injected him with anesthesia. His consciousness sank abruptly.
When he opened his eyes again, he found himself in a secluded mountain valley shrouded in drifting white mist. On the steepest peak in the distance, three powerful characters had been carved with blade-like strokes:
—Chenyue Ridge.
Below the inscription lay a slope etched with sword marks. They were arranged neatly, as if someone had deliberately carved them. Counting from left to right, there were nine; from top to bottom, ten—ninety marks in total.
“They’ve been together for ninety years, and only now have the Moon Goddess and Lord of Dawn had children. It seems their relationship really is as bad as the rumors say—they can hardly stand the sight of each other.” A woman draped in light gauze hurried past. Jian Yuntai was about to hide, only to realize that the woman did not even glance at him and ran straight through his line of sight.
Before he could react, another group of women passed by him, chatting among themselves without sparing him a single look.
These people couldn’t see him?
Even better!
Jian Yuntai immediately quickened his pace and followed them, blending into the crowd of women and joining tens of thousands of viewers in watching the drama unfold.
It had to be said that the immortals in this instance were extremely gossipy. Whether male or female immortals, they all secretly discussed the two high immortals—Lord of Dawn and the Moon Goddess.
In other words, Cui Yu’s father and mother.
Listening in here and there, Jian Yuntai managed to piece together some general information:
“Lord of Dawn” and “Moon Goddess” were merely divine titles; naturally, those were not their real names.
The man’s surname was Yan. He had been formed from the first light of the rising sun. After attaining immortality, he controlled the rising and setting of the sun in the mortal world. His temperament was indifferent and solitary.
The woman’s surname was Cui. She controlled the rising and setting of the moon. She had extremely high self-esteem and would rather break than bend. Legend had it that she once obtained a supreme treasure—the Night Pearl—and treasured it dearly. Later, a mischievous maid immortal handled it for a moment out of curiosity. Moon Goddess flew into a rage and smashed the pearl to pieces. However, she did not punish the maid afterward, nor did she ever make things difficult for her again. From a bystander’s gossiping perspective, many said that although Moon Goddess could not tolerate even a speck of impurity in her sight, she was born of moonlight—kind at heart and reverent toward even the weakest life.
For two people like that, their road to love had been full of hardships and twists and turns. Though difficult, ninety years ago they had finally achieved a happy union and now had given birth to twin sons.
Following the group of female immortals into the main hall, Jian Yuntai found that the Heavenly Palace was far more ethereal than the Underworld. There were jade nectars and palace wines, loquats, ancient zithers, flat peaches, and emerald lakes… He truly did not know how Cui Yu had endured it after being banished to the Underworld.
It was like heaven and earth apart.
Well, it literally was heaven and earth.
There were no high immortals inside the hall. The maid immortals merely strolled about, watering plants and doing miscellaneous chores.
Jian Yuntai did not linger. Concentrating, he listened carefully to identify the source of voices and soon arrived at a secluded room.
He passed straight through the door.
“You and I were formed from sunlight and moonlight, our immortal bodies sharing innate empathy. Now that this shared sensation has shifted onto the children, how am I supposed to accept that calmly?!” The woman speaking had a head full of white hair, and her features bore a three-part resemblance to Cui Yu. Immortal energy surrounded her like pure moonlight, sacred and noble. Yet the hostility between her brows broke that sanctity, and her words were even sharper. “Say something!”
Lord of Dawn sat to one side.
There was also a three-part resemblance between him and the King of Hell, though his features appeared far more resolute. Yet now that resolute man sat hunched at the bedside, hands hanging at his sides, brows tightly furrowed, looking utterly dejected.
“I hadn’t expected it to turn out like this either.”
Moon Goddess’s face turned pale. When she turned her head, her eyes were already red as she asked hoarsely, “Are we still going to hold the wedding ceremony?”
They had never properly held a wedding. They had originally planned to, but when Moon Goddess became pregnant and could not endure exhaustion, it had been postponed until now.
However, after the children were born and the shared empathy transferred, the matter struck them like a bolt from the blue. The excitement they once felt about making up the ceremony had completely vanished.
Before Lord of Dawn could answer, a trace of stubbornness flashed across Moon Goddess’s face. “If you don’t want to hold it…”
Lord of Dawn immediately interrupted, suddenly raising his voice. “Of course we’re holding it! Why do you always doubt my feelings for you? In your eyes, do I care so little about this?”
“…” Moon Goddess pressed her lips tightly together. That was not what she meant.
Just as she was about to explain, hurried footsteps sounded outside. An immortal rushed in urgently. “Lord of Dawn! The Heavenly Court’s border is under siege by demons. Please go provide support at once!”
Lord of Dawn immediately stood and walked out. Before leaving, he suddenly paused and turned back hesitantly to look at Moon Goddess.
She was someone who understood the greater good. If she had not just given birth and been physically weak, she would have carried a sword to the front lines herself. Naturally, she had no complaints. Instead, she urged anxiously, “Go quickly. You must be careful!”
Lord of Dawn nodded. With a lift of his hand, a magical treasure materialized.
“I don’t know when I’ll be able to return from this journey. I’ll give the first birthday gift in advance. This long sword—give it to the elder brother for me. The elder will follow my surname, the younger yours. I hope that in the future he will uphold justice, be strict and magnanimous.”
Moon Goddess accepted the sword and nodded solemnly. She too raised her hand, conjuring a silver chain. “This silver chain has been nourished by the moon’s silver light for tens of millions of years. It is extremely precious. On the day of the first birthday, I will give it to the younger brother. I hope that in the future he will be like cunning moonlight—untouched by evil, forever innocent, with a constant smile.”
In the room stood a cradle woven from rattan, gently swaying in the breeze. After placing the sword and the chain on either side of the cradle, the two stepped out one after another, their minds already troubled by the war.
Only Jian Yuntai remained in the room.
“So this is how Cui Yu and the King of Hell’s shared empathy came about?” The viewers suddenly understood and began discussing in the barrage:
“No wonder! At first I was wondering why the two brothers had different surnames. Turns out one followed the father’s surname and the other the mother’s. What a coincidence though—I feel like Cui Yu really does look more like Moon Goddess, while the King of Hell looks more like Lord of Dawn.”
“It’s quite a coincidence. Not only were the surnames split, but even the first birthday gifts were given separately by the parent they resembled.”
“Don’t you think Moon Goddess and Lord of Dawn just set up a massive death flag? ‘I don’t know when I’ll be able to return’… Damn, I would never dare say something like that in an instance. It always feels like the moment you say it, something will go wrong.”
“There’s an even bigger flag. Lord of Dawn hoped the King of Hell would uphold justice and be strict and magnanimous, but the King of Hell turned out to be a tyrant. Moon Goddess hoped Cui Yu would stay innocent and always smiling… Up to now in the instance, I’ve barely seen Cui Yu smile more than a few times!”
“Sigh, it’s kind of tragic. When they gave those blessings, they probably never imagined their sons would grow into the complete opposite of what they hoped.”
The viewers sighed and discussed at length, but Jian Yuntai did not think that much about it. He simply walked closer to the cradle.
He leaned over and looked inside.
At one glance, he burst out laughing.
How could Cui Yu have been this cute as a child?!
Like a little beast cub, he curled up on the left side of the cradle, occupying only one quarter of the space. Although Moon Goddess had just given birth, perhaps immortal pregnancies were different. The Cui Yu in the cradle did not look like a newborn—his white hair already grew down to his neck.
The other three quarters of the cradle were occupied by the King of Hell. The little King of Hell lay sprawled in a big “star” shape, sleeping crookedly across the cradle. One arm was even draped over Cui Yu’s face.
Cui Yu’s breathing was blocked, and his little face had turned red from suffocation.
How exactly was Moon Goddess being a mother? The children were sleeping like this, and she had not even prepared two cradles to separate them.
Jian Yuntai felt uneasy and reached out, intending to move the King of Hell’s hand aside. Yet when his fingers stretched forward, they passed straight through the King’s arm—he couldn’t touch him at all.
The more he couldn’t reach him, the more anxious he became. Of course, the King of Hell shifted his body and pressed harshly against Cui Yu—
Now Cui Yu could only fit in the sixteen-part section of the cradle.
“That terrifyingly imposing older brother in the Underworld? And as a kid, he was bullied like this?” Jian Yuntai muttered in frustration, unable to stand it, pacing beside the cradle. “Get up, get up! Kick him off! Cui Yu, push harder, you’re about to suffocate!”
He tried several times to step in and help, but there was nothing he could do—he could only watch helplessly.
Suddenly, a dizzy haze swept over him, and all the scenery spun and drifted away. When he refocused, Jian Yuntai found himself back in the misty mountain valley from before.
The sword marks on Chenyue Ridge had multiplied, roughly fifty more had been added.
Just as he was about to count them, a violent wind stirred the clouds behind him. Jian Yuntai looked back and saw two figures, one following the other, riding on clouds, crash to the ground with a bang.
—Cui Yu!
Jian Yuntai’s eyes lit up, and he immediately moved closer.
The Cui Yu before him looked about seventeen or eighteen, still a youth. There was the unmistakable pride and spirit of adolescence in his brows. His red lips and white teeth made him especially endearing, and Jian Yuntai couldn’t help but steal several more glances.
Once he stood still behind him, Cui Yu, though young, carried an air of authority. He spoke with a composed tone like a little adult: “Yan Luo, you shouldn’t blame her.”
He didn’t even call him “brother” as a child?
Jian Yuntai silently gave him a thumbs-up. Clearly, Cui Yu’s rebellious streak had been planted from a young age.
Meanwhile, the King of Hell strode forward.
No longer did he resemble the weak, ailing figure of the Underworld. He was tall, his body radiating power, like he had energy coursing through every inch.
He seemed in a rush, unwilling to argue with Cui Yu. Yet Cui Yu persisted in trying to stop him, and the two struggled all the way, drawing curious glances from the other immortals.
Jian Yuntai followed them, moving smoothly into Moon Goddess’s chamber. Nearly fifty years had passed; the rattan cradle had long vanished, but the room’s furnishings remained unchanged, just as they had been five decades ago.
As soon as he stepped inside, he heard Yan Luo’s angry voice: “You knew about this all along, didn’t you?!”
Moon Goddess rose from the table, startled. “What are you talking about?” She bore a stern expression toward Lord of Dawn, but to her own sons, her features softened with maternal tenderness. Even Jian Yuntai, an outsider, could notice it—yet the King of Hell could not.
“The empathy transfer! If it weren’t for the gossiping lesser immortals downstairs, I wouldn’t have known that you and Father once shared innate empathy. And now that it has shifted to me and my brother, how could this have no connection? Did you do this on purpose?”
Yan Luo’s accusations came rapid-fire, catching Moon Goddess off guard. She struggled to respond.
After a moment, she asked in confusion, “Do what on purpose?”
“Still pretending?” Yan Luo’s forehead veins bulged with anger. He shoved Cui Yu aside, then stepped forward and shouted, “Don’t think I don’t know what you were planning! Your reason for giving birth to us was to transfer your shared empathy, right? You and Father had such a terrible relationship—ninety years before having me and Cui Yu—and after childbirth, the empathy shifted. Father never came to see us!”
He drew a deep breath, eyes bloodshot. “Because your mission was complete! After the empathy transfer, you didn’t even want to appear as a nominal couple—you only wanted to leave this misfortune for me and my brother.”
Moon Goddess was stunned. In panic, she stammered, “Y-Your father went to exterminate demons…”
“Fifty years of demon-slaying? I could have killed that demon myself! Do you take me for a fool?” Yan Luo yelled.
While they quarreled—or rather, while Yan Luo raged on unilaterally—Jian Yuntai hurried to Cui Yu’s side.
Earlier, in his fury, Yan Luo had pushed Cui Yu down. Now Cui Yu remained seated on the floor, seemingly unwilling to get up.
Looking closer, Jian Yuntai saw Cui Yu’s eyes were also red.
His lips were tightly pressed, fingers curled into fists, gaze fixed on a small stone on the floor as if it were the only thing in the world that mattered.
He said nothing, but grief filled his eyes, darkening the beautiful youth’s face as he looked down.
A surge of unnamed anger flared in Jian Yuntai. He frowned at the King of Hell: Are you not a fool? Lord of Dawn didn’t just fight one demon—he fought many, many demons. You could have gone yourself. So why didn’t you? And now you blame Lord of Dawn, scold Moon Goddess, and even push innocent Cui Yu to the floor.
Jian Yuntai took a deep breath, realizing he might be biased, naturally siding with Cui Yu. Perhaps the viewers would not be as partial as he was.
Yet… the livestream viewers were already wailing:
“Waaah, my beautiful Cui Yu! Jian Dadan has never treated you so harshly. How could the King of Hell do this!”
“No! I only accept Cui Yu being pushed on the bed and then Jian Dadan intervening!”
“Sisters, not now! Tears are about to fall, and saliva is already flying.”
A cold wind blew through the wide-open windows—so the Heavenly Court could be this chilly too.
Seeing Moon Goddess nearly overcome with sorrow, Yan Luo spat in anger: “You don’t deserve to be a mother!” He strode out immediately after saying this.
Moon Goddess was left alone, covering her face and crying miserably, completely losing all composure. Jian Yuntai watched with some pity, and Cui Yu even more so.
“Mother.” Cui Yu finally stood and approached her.
Moon Goddess looked up at him, choking back sobs. “I didn’t give birth to you to transfer empathy. How could I be so cruel? You—I raised you for fifty years, and you don’t even understand my temperament? How could he think such a thing?”
Cui Yu lowered his gaze at her. “I know.”
Three simple words, yet they were like a spring in a desert, instantly soothing Moon Goddess’s parched heart. Her reddened eyes met his as she said, “It is I and Lord of Dawn who failed you, giving you a life that wasn’t fully your own.”
Cui Yu shook his head gently and whispered, “I’ve never blamed this. You need not worry.”
By nature, he was reserved and did not offer comforting words. These were simply heartfelt truths. Hearing them, Moon Goddess finally managed to stop crying, her face regaining the same stubborn resolve of old. “I will solve the matter of empathy for you, even if I die trying!”
Cui Yu furrowed his brows slightly, as if wanting to say something.
Moon Goddess looked up, helplessly asking, “Can you help persuade your brother?”
“…Okay.” He paused silently, then turned and left.
This entire dream revolved around Cui Yu. The “Do Not Speak of the Past” focused entirely on him. Jian Yuntai did not linger for a moment, following him out immediately.
Cui Yu soared into the clouds. Jian Yuntai tentatively leapt onto the mist, and surprisingly, he too was able to fly. The sensation was like riding a glider, his feet light as if stepping on cotton candy, almost weightless, as if he might fall at any moment.
The viewers were trembling with excitement, yet Jian Yuntai stood rigidly atop the clouds, stubborn as ever.
He turned his head to look at Cui Yu.
Cui Yu’s face was pale, his lips pressed tightly together the entire time. Jian Yuntai had no idea what he was thinking, but he could feel the grief wrapping around him completely, his cool, clear gaze shattered into fragments.
“Sigh… Cui Yu must have been hurting too. No one wanted something like shared empathy. But he knew this wasn’t anyone’s fault—least of all Moon Goddess’s.”
“The King of Hell made a huge scene over it and even said they weren’t willing to keep up the appearance of a marriage and that she wasn’t fit to be a mother. If I put myself in their shoes, my heart would have shattered. I’d feel like my parents’ relationship was awful, my father never came home, my brother and mother were fighting like that—there wouldn’t be a shred of happiness in that family.”
“You’re thinking too simply. With Cui Yu’s personality, he definitely wasn’t just sad about that. There had to be something else.”
“Something else? Like what?”
…
…
About ten minutes later, Cui Yu finally found Yan Luo. At that moment, Yan Luo was holding the sword Lord of Dawn had given him, hacking wildly at the trees in the forest valley to vent his resentment.
Countless birds and beasts were startled into shrill cries, living creatures scattering in panic because of him.
The moment Cui Yu landed, he raised his hand and knocked the sword out of Yan Luo’s grip.
Jian Yuntai was stunned watching from the side. Had Cui Yu been stronger than Yan Luo even when he was young?
The movement had been so fast he hadn’t even processed it. When he lowered his head through the clouds, the sword had still been in Yan Luo’s hand. When he looked up again, the blade had already traced a parabola through the air before crashing to the ground with a loud clang.
Yan Luo also seemed startled. After standing frozen for a few seconds, he steadied himself and said, “I’ll use immortal arts to restore this later.”
Cui Yu shook his head. “Mother asked me to persuade you.”
Yan Luo: “………………”
Another loud bang echoed as Yan Luo suddenly threw a punch, smashing a hole straight through the thick trunk of a nearby tree. His brows lowered sharply, and he snapped in fury, “Are you standing with her, or with me?”
If Jian Yuntai had been asked that question, he would have answered without hesitation, “I stand in the middle.” But Cui Yu had always been straightforward. He replied calmly, “You were the one in the wrong.”
“…” The King of Hell was nearly choked speechless with anger. After rolling his eyes countless times, he said resentfully, “You’re so magnanimous. So magnanimous! Do you truly not understand, or are you pretending not to? She said a few words and you just believed her like an idiot? I don’t believe what she says—I only believe what I’ve seen with my own eyes.”
“The truth is, we were nothing more than tools for them to transfer their shared empathy—our existence had no meaning at all! If not for that, we might never have even been born!”
Each sentence carried deep resentment. Jian Yuntai listened anxiously from the side.
He wanted desperately to rush over and interrupt. With his sharp tongue, he could have sarcastically torn the King of Hell apart and sent him back for a remake.
But he was only an outsider in this dream. Everything unfolding before him had already been set in stone. He had no power to change it. All he could do was sigh and turn his gaze to Cui Yu.
The moment his eyes landed on him, Jian Yuntai froze.
Cui Yu… his face was even paler than before. His long silver hair hung down his back as dark clouds rolled across the sky, blocking out the sun for a moment and casting everything into shadow.
His entire expression dimmed with it.
Jian Yuntai stared at him for a long moment, then suddenly stiffened as realization struck—Cui Yu hadn’t believed her!
The livestream viewers instantly felt chills race down their spines:
“Oh my god, he didn’t believe Moon Goddess? He also thought she and Lord of Dawn had children just to transfer the empathy? But he just said he believed her!”
“He probably said that so she wouldn’t feel worse. From his perspective, Lord of Dawn really hadn’t returned for years—it did look like he abandoned his wife and kids. And with Yan Luo constantly whispering in his ear… doubt would be normal.”
“Damn. I suddenly get why he was so devastated. He might not have blamed Moon Goddess, but not blaming someone and not being hurt are two different things. If your very existence was a mistake from the start… just imagining it is chilling.”
As goosebumps rippled through the livestream viewers, Yan Luo stared fixedly at Cui Yu. Seeing his continued cold detachment, anger surged in him, and he spoke without restraint:
“After I was born, you shouldn’t have been,” he shouted angrily. “Now that the empathy has transferred, it just fulfills their wish!”
The words had barely left his mouth—
A sharp series of clattering sounds rang out. Cui Yu’s face turned deathly pale, a flash of pain and fury crossing his light-colored eyes. He suddenly raised his hand, and the silver chain expanded several times over in the wind, instantly looping around the King of Hell’s neck—
With another sharp whoosh, the chain tightened and hoisted the King into the air. Shock filled the King’s face as his breathing became difficult; only then did belated fear set in.
Looking down, he saw hostility blazing in Cui Yu’s eyes. His white hair whipped wildly behind him like a god descending upon the world.
Only after a long moment did Cui Yu calm down. The wind stilled, and his hair settled. His eyes were slightly red as he looked at the King of Hell, holding a gaze he had never shown before. His voice carried faint resolve as he asked, “If I died, the empathy would disappear… wouldn’t it?”
