Chapter 170

Lou Yan narrowed his eyes, “Crunch, crunch,” biting the sugar cube, “How did you know I was planning to leave for a while?”
“If you weren’t planning to leave, you wouldn’t have entrusted us with these tasks,” Duan Zege smiled bitterly, his tone somewhat urgent as he asked again, “Where are you going? Are you leaving with Fu Xuezhou?”
Lou Yan subtly paused, turned his head to look at him, and said meaningfully, “You seem to be very anxious to know about this. Duan Zege, do you know something?”
“I’m just worried about you guys,” Duan Zege denied firmly.
“Us?” Lou Yan said teasingly, “Are you already sure that I will be leaving with Fu Xuezhou?”
“… I guessed,” Duan Zege said anxiously, adjusting his cap, ignoring Lou Yan’s suspicion and asking again, “Lou Yan, are you planning to leave with Fu Xuezhou?”
Lou Yan looked deeply at him and admitted, “Yes, I’m planning to leave with him for a while.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Duan Zege seemed even more anxious and immediately asked, “Where are you going?”
“To Linxin County,” Lou Yan replied without changing his expression, “Fu Xuezhou and I resolved the anomalies nearby a couple of days ago, and then we found out there’s a dangerous anomaly in Linxin County, so we decided to go check it out. After dealing with the anomaly in that county, we’ll come back.”
Duan Zege was stunned. “Really?”
“If you don’t believe it, you can try divining it yourself,” Lou Yan chuckled. “Don’t you have the talent for divination? You should be able to divine our destination.”
Duan Zege shook his head stubbornly, wanting to get a clear answer from Lou Yan, “Lou Yan, are you and Fu Xuezhou really going to Linxin County and not somewhere else?”
Lou Yan squinted subtly, tilting his head like Fu Xuezhou, and asked with some confusion, “Somewhere else? Where else can Fu Xuezhou and I go?”
Duan Zege scrutinized his expression carefully, but not finding anything unnatural, he relaxed a bit and murmured, “It’s good if it’s not somewhere else.”
Lou Yan raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean by ‘it’s good if it’s not somewhere else’? Where did you think we were going?”
Duan Zege instinctively said, “I thought you were going to the North Pole.”
North Pole?!
Lou Yan’s pupils dilated, and he clenched his fists abruptly, suppressing the astonishment in his heart. How did Duan Zege know he was going to the North Pole?!
Could it be that he also used his divination ability to figure it out?!
Suddenly, Duan Zege nervously grabbed both sides of Lou Yan’s shoulders, using a lot of force, speaking seriously with a burning gaze, “Lou Yan, you must remember what I’m about to say, never do anything that will make you regret it!”
Lou Yan could feel through Duan Zege’s dry, grass-like hair that he was being stared at as if by substance. The urgency, heaviness, and depth in his eyes made Lou Yan alert and puzzled at the same time.
Lou Yan furrowed his brow, wanting to pull Duan Zege’s hands away, but Duan Zege used all his strength to hold onto him. Lou Yan couldn’t pull Duan Zege’s hands away, but instead, he noticed that Duan Zege’s arm muscles were tensed abnormally, even trembling slightly.
Duan Zege murmured repeatedly, “Lou Yan, don’t do anything you’ll regret… Don’t… Don’t do anything wrong…”
Duan Zege seemed frantic, and Lou Yan suddenly felt extremely uncomfortable deep inside. Feeling a bit irritated, he increased his strength and forcibly pulled Duan Zege’s hands away. “Duan Zege, what do you mean by ‘don’t do anything you’ll regret’? Explain it to me clearly!”
Duan Zege suddenly lifted his head, locking eyes with Lou Yan, his lips trembling a few times.
“…Don’t kill Fu Xuezhou, Lou Yan.”
…
Don’t kill Fu Xuezhou, Lou Yan.
…
Lou Yan was stunned for a moment, then his expression slowly turned into a smirk. He looked at Duan Zege with a gaze so cold that it carried a hint of killing intent. “Don’t kill Fu Xuezhou… Is that what you call something I shouldn’t do and will regret? Haha.”
Lou Yan was amused. His handsome face twisted slightly, and he said with a hint of disdain, “Would I regret killing him? This joke is really funny, Duan Zege. Are you intentionally trying to make me laugh?”
The thought of regretting killing Fu Xuezhou made Lou Yan feel nauseated.
How could that be?!
Everything he had done since his rebirth was all to kill Fu Xuezhou. He couldn’t forget the end where he died in the fire. That kind of ending happened three times, and he wanted to kill Fu Xuezhou three times. Why would he regret killing Fu Xuezhou?
Duan Zege’s words disgusted Lou Yan.
Lou Yan’s laughter became more and more sinister. “Why would I regret killing Fu Xuezhou? Shouldn’t Fu Xuezhou die?”
At this moment, Duan Zege seemed particularly unfamiliar to him. Whenever he thought of the inexplicable softness and trust he had towards Duan Zege before, Lou Yan felt as if he had eaten a fly, once again experiencing the disgust he felt towards Fu Xuezhou from Duan Zege.
“I don’t know… I can’t explain,” Duan Zege’s hands dropped weakly to his sides. His hoarse voice couldn’t hide the bitterness, but his words were confusing, making no sense, “Lou Yan, if you’re going to the North Pole, you must take me with you.”
Lou Yan looked at Duan Zege coldly, his sharp tone piercing through like a knife, “So you know nothing, yet you come here and tell me not to kill Fu Xuezhou? What qualifications do you have to tell me not to kill him? Did you see him destroy the world with your own eyes, or did you see yourself and your companions helpless, only to be burned to death in the fire?”
Ridiculous. Too ridiculous.
Duan Zege had always been by his side, pretending to be one of his people, fighting anomalies and dealing with Fu Xuezhou together. But now he came here and said “don’t kill Fu Xuezhou.”
Lou Yan’s hatred towards Fu Xuezhou was something that those who hadn’t experienced it firsthand couldn’t comprehend. Day by day, his determination to kill Fu Xuezhou remained unshaken. Even if he slept with Fu Xuezhou, even if he smiled at Fu Xuezhou, Lou Yan knew deep down that everything he did was to kill Fu Xuezhou.
Fu Xuezhou’s survival meant unrest for Lou Yan every single day. He had become the source of Lou Yan’s nightmares, and Lou Yan didn’t want to wake up one night to find the world engulfed in flames of destruction once again.
“I don’t know… I don’t know why you all went to the North Pole, what happened there,” Duan Zegao said in agony as he squatted down, hands clutching his head, vigorously scratching his messy hair. His hat fell to the ground, and his chicken coop-like hair continued to shed dandruff. Duan Zegao’s fingers twitched spasmodically for a moment before he looked up at Lou Yan with a pleading tone. “Just consider it as if I used divination to vaguely know some things. Lou Yan, you must believe me, please don’t kill Fu Xuezhou! If you go to the North Pole, please take me with you! I beg you, please take me with you, okay?”
Lou Yan looked down at him, his gaze ice-cold.
How could he possibly believe Duan Zege’s words?
Even if Duan Zege might indeed possess the talent for divination, even if Duan Zege knew they were going to the North Pole without being told, even if this sentence might truly be a glimpse of the future as divined by Duan Zege—
Lou Yan’s hatred and desire to kill Fu Xuezhou would not change because of these simple words.
Lou Yan was a very clever and thoughtful person. He could easily think of many possibilities from Duan Zege’s few words.
If he truly regretted killing Fu Xuezhou in the “future,” there were only two possibilities.
Either he found himself falling in love with Fu Xuezhou, or he discovered hidden reasons behind Fu Xuezhou’s world destruction.
Both possibilities were more disgusting than the other, making Lou Yan feel physically nauseous even thinking about them.
He couldn’t possibly fall in love with Fu Xuezhou, so the latter possibility was more likely—Fu Xuezhou’s world destruction might have other reasons.
But that would only make it even more laughable.
Lou Yan thought coldly, even if Fu Xuezhou had reasons he couldn’t avoid for destroying the world, he still destroyed it, and Lou Yan and others died at his hands three times or even more.
The enmity of life and death, the hatred, fear, and anger of being killed and betrayed were all real emotions that burned in Lou Yan’s soul day and night, preventing him from finding peace.
These doubts and baseless possibilities were not enough to make Lou Yan let go of his hatred towards Fu Xuezhou.
Would he regret it in the future? Lou Yan didn’t care. He only knew that if he didn’t kill Fu Xuezhou now, he would wish he were dead.
Suddenly, Lou Yan smiled. “Alright, I promise you. If I really go to the North Pole, I’ll take you with me.”
Duan Zege was stunned, looking up in surprise. Lou Yan smiled back at him, his face showing no other expression. Duan Zege hesitated and asked softly, “Really?”
Lou Yan nodded, sighed, and looked sincerely, “Of course. You’re my friend, Duan Zege.”
Duan Zege stared at Lou Yan for a while, then sighed in relief. He slowly got up from the ground, forced a smile at Lou Yan, and then left with Little Yu, looking a bit uneasy.
Lou Yan watched his back, his expression overshadowed by shadows.
After a while, Lou Yan felt his stomach churning, unable to hold back, he bent over the window and retched, tears almost coming out.
Suddenly, a hand grabbed his arm and helped him up, a bottle of mineral water was put to Lou Yan’s lips, and he took a few sips to suppress the nausea. He looked up to see Fu Xuezhou suddenly appearing beside him.
Fu Xuezhou was wearing a bathrobe, his silver hair shimmering faintly in the sunlight. His dark eyes stared at Lou Yan intently, his brows furrowed slightly, holding a bottle of water in his hand.
Lou Yan’s stomach churned again, but he suppressed the discomfort and smiled casually, “I’m fine.”
Fu Xuezhou wiped the water stain from the corner of his lips and carefully examined Lou Yan’s complexion. Seeing that Lou Yan’s eyes were clear and his face was rosy, he nodded and said concisely, “Let’s go back.”
Lou Yan lowered his gaze and smiled again, “Okay.”
The two of them left the room, one after the other. Lou Yan watched Fu Xuezhou’s back, his smile maintaining the same arc.
Lou Yan’s gaze seemed substantial, and Fu Xuezhou turned to look at Lou Yan, his silver hair swaying slightly by his ears, making the silver-haired man look like a god. “What’s wrong?”
Would he?
Could such a Fu Xuezhou have any untold secrets?
It was too ridiculous.
Lou Yan suddenly said, “Fu Xuezhou… give me a smile.”
Fu Xuezhou didn’t understand why Lou Yan suddenly said this, giving Lou Yan a faint glance as if questioning what madness he was up to.
Lou Yan stood still, mouth quirking up, hands in his pockets. “Give me a smile. I won’t move until you do.”
Fu Xuezhou tried to pull him, but he didn’t budge. After a brief standoff, the corners of Fu Xuezhou’s expressionless face twitched, revealing a smile.
It was apparent that Fu Xuezhou wasn’t someone who smiled often. The smile seemed rather chilly, but there was a hint of resignation in Fu Xuezhou’s eyes, making the smile appear different.
Lou Yan casually watched the smile, recalling the crazed grin Fu Xuezhou had worn amidst the flames of world destruction—a smile that filled him with endless hatred. The smile before him gradually merged with that one, with lips just as cold, a similar curvature, but an entirely different feeling.
Which Fu Xuezhou was the real one after all?
Feeling suddenly irritated, Lou Yan wiped away the fake smile from his face and strode past Fu Xuezhou, saying, “Let’s go.”
Fu Xuezhou watched Lou Yan’s back, unsure why Lou Yan had suddenly become upset. He suppressed his smile and followed behind Lou Yan, his gaze flicking back and forth, observing Lou Yan.
Was his smile really that ugly?
After returning to the room, Lou Yan began to pack for the North Pole.
Duan Zege’s few words were not enough to change his mind about killing Fu Xuezhou, but Lou Yan felt that he could have a good talk with Fu Xuezhou before killing him.
He thought somewhat sarcastically that he was also curious whether Fu Xuezhou really had any “hidden secrets.”
Death should allow Fu Xuezhou to exert his remaining value before dying. He really wanted to know the truth behind Fu Xuezhou’s repeated destruction of the world.
As for Duan Zege, of course, Lou Yan wouldn’t take him to the North Pole. Duan Zege’s identity was unclear, and his previous promise to Duan Zege was just to keep him stable.
The things were packed quickly. In the afternoon, Lou Yan and Fu Xuezhou each carried a backpack and left Rongcheng by boat. By eight o’clock in the evening, Lou Yan and Fu Xuezhou had already boarded the ship bound for the North Pole.
