Yuwen Chu released her jaw, threatening her, “If you bite again, I’ll bite back hard!”
Was he going to treat her like Yuwen You? Mingzhu was stunned, her eyes inexplicably sour, tears flowing out. She pushed him away a few times and then laid on him and burst into tears. Five parts were due to the touching scenes, and five parts were to test Yuwen Chu’s true character. She wanted to see if this man would soften and pity her. Was he pretending, or was he really pretending?
Because she was afraid her crying wasn’t sad and real enough, she deliberately thought of many sad things, so she cried more and more bitterly. By the end, she didn’t even know why she was crying, she just wanted Yuwen Chu to admit defeat.
Yuwen Chu didn’t expect her to cry so sadly, feeling somewhat helpless. After thinking for a while, he reached out to pull her, comforting her, “Stop crying, I was just teasing you. Who has the patience for that woman? I don’t like her.”
Not enough. Mingzhu ignored him, turned her back, and continued crying.
After a while of silence, Yuwen Chu changed his tactic, threatening her, “If you keep crying, I won’t comfort you anymore.”
“I don’t need your comfort!” Mingzhu immediately lifted her head and spat, choking, “Do you want to try who’s more ruthless? Otherwise, just break up with me early! No, I’m not wrong, I want to break off relations with you!”
After saying that, she turned around and continued crying.
Outside, Su Lan and Su Mei couldn’t hold back their curiosity and cautiously asked, “What’s wrong with Wangfei?”
“Nothing, she’s just being naughty. She accidentally hit her head and cried from the pain.” Yuwen Chu lied without blinking an eye, then hugged Mingzhu’s shoulder, pulled her over to him, and kissed her lips, mumbling, “Do you dare to say that to me? What is Jiang Shanshan? Can she make you and me separate?”
“Wuwu…” Mingzhu had cried until she was tired, only regretting not finding a way out. Since he was willing to offer such a good opportunity, she was naturally happy to take it. Seizing the opportunity, she fiercely pinched the soft flesh on the inside of Yuwen Chu’s arm, hearing him gasp in pain clearly. Satisfied but still feeling insufficiently relieved, she intended to pinch the soft flesh around his waist, but before her hand could reach there, he forcefully pushed her down onto the carriage, his lips attaching to her neck.
In a moment of regret, she forgot her misdeeds and hastily withdrew her hand in self-defense. However, the vast difference in strength left her defeated and fleeing in embarrassment, forgetting her tears and only harboring resentment and anger.
Fortunately, Yuwen Chu knew when to stop, sitting up triumphantly and carefully tidying Mingzhu’s clothes and hair, laughing softly, “What a fierce woman! Jealous to this extent, only willing to stop when I intervene personally. Aren’t you afraid of being laughed at?”
“Shameless!” Mingzhu waved away his hand, turning away to retrieve a mirror from a hidden compartment in the carriage. Looking at her disheveled hair, watery eyes, rosy cheeks, and swollen lips, she appeared unmistakably flirtatious. Feeling even more embarrassed, she slammed the mirror down and pounded the table twice in frustration, exclaiming, “You bully me! You bully me!”
Yuwen Chu pursed his lips, smiling, paying no attention to her. He comfortably crossed his long legs and swayed them gently, singing softly, “The clear river water flows long, beautiful girls gather water plants…”
His voice was that kind of very pleasant bass, and he sang very well. But to Mingzhu’s ears, it was unpleasant. She disdainfully said, “You’re tone-deaf and still have the nerve to sing.”
Yuwen Chu wasn’t the least bit angry; instead, he smiled at her. “Wangfei is proficient in music and dance. How about teaching me?”
“No time.”
“Is Wangfei busy with having a child?” Yuwen Chu teased like sticky candy, making Mingzhu quickly wave her hand in a panic, “Your Highness sings beautifully, there’s no need for me to teach.”
“It’s not good to have your words not match your thoughts,” Yuwen Chu poked her heart insidiously, laughing softly. “Telling a lie once or twice is fine, but be careful. If you say too many lies, you might not even know what’s true and what’s false.”
He always had an ulterior motive in his words. Mingzhu admitted she lied, but how many truths did he tell her in return? Both of them were just testing each other, half-truths and half-lies, no one should blame anyone. Mingzhu didn’t want to argue with him, so she opened the carriage curtain to look outside. “Didn’t Your Highness say it was going to rain earlier? Why hasn’t it started yet?” As she spoke, a gust of wind blew dust in her face, startling her, and she quickly pulled back inside to wipe her face with a handkerchief, feeling unlucky.
“Bad luck comes when you’re wicked.” Yuwen Chu laughed heartily, patting the carriage wall and ordering the coachman to speed up and return quickly.
Mingzhu said fiercely, “Don’t think things are settled just like this! If you dare to look at Jiang Shanshan again, it’s not over between us!”
Yuwen Chu smiled but didn’t say anything, pulling her into his arms tightly.
After a while, the sky darkened completely, rolling thunder mixed with glaring lightning rolled in from the horizon, and torrential rain poured down, flooding the world. The carriage couldn’t enter the Hanging Flower Gate. Zhu Changsheng had people carry a sedan chair waiting in front of the carriage, personally brought an umbrella, wooden clogs, raincoat, and other items, smiling obsequiously, “Allow me to trouble Your Highness and Wangfei to change to the sedan chair.”
Mingzhu took the raincoat and was about to put it on when Yuwen Chu was already dressed. Without a word, he reached out and lifted her, directly getting off the carriage. By the time Mingzhu reacted, she was already sitting in the sedan chair, and Yuwen Chu was standing in front of it, tossing the raincoat to Zhu Changsheng, then smiling as he bent down to enter the sedan chair, affectionately saying, “Make way.”
No one expected the usually serious Ying Wang to act this way. Even with such heavy rain, Mingzhu still saw the shocked expressions on Zhu Changsheng and the others, feeling somewhat proud and embarrassed. Therefore, she was especially tolerant towards him, creating ample space for him and even took out a handkerchief to wipe the water droplets off his temple.
Yuwen Chu smiled at her and ordered the sedan chair to move.
The sedan chair shut out the sound of wind and rain, isolating them from the outside world. Mingzhu smelled the faint scent of agarwood around her and suddenly felt very peaceful, but also a little sleepy. She couldn’t help but turn her head to look at Yuwen Chu. The interior of the sedan chair was dim, and she couldn’t see his expression clearly, only his straight nose and beautifully curved jawline.
Sensing Mingzhu looking at him, Yuwen Chu also turned to look at her, softly asking, “Are you tired?”
With his question, Mingzhu immediately felt a wave of exhaustion washing over her, and tentatively leaned her head lightly on his shoulder, whispering softly, “Mm.”
Yuwen Chu hugged her and adjusted his posture considerately to make her more comfortable. “I’m a bit tired too. Let’s rest when we get back.”
“Okay.” The sedan chair swayed steadily and slowly. Mingzhu gradually felt her eyelids sticking together, unable to keep them open.
