Chapter 467: Fu Mingzheng’s Familiar Person (Part 2)

The troublemakers were back.
Mingzhu had just managed to endure answering the same question six times, and now, with that one sentence from Fourth Brother, all her efforts seemed to have gone to waste.
Just as she was about to change the subject, Li Haixing calmly said, “It’s called the Dali Zheng investigation method. If the same question is asked six times, and each time the answer is the same, with consistent tone and wording, it indicates something suspicious. The testimony has been memorized in advance. Hence, there is no deviation. If the gist is generally the same, but the tone and wording of the testimony are slightly different each time, then the credibility is relatively higher.”
Li Haixing spoke calmly and uprightly as they said this.
Fu Mingzheng’s expression was a bit unpleasant, but instead of being as sarcastic and difficult as usual with Li Haixing, he just smiled and said, “Then, may I ask Secretary Li, which category does Wangfei’s answer belong to?”
Li Haixing replied calmly, “Please forgive me. This is a matter of case confidentiality, and I cannot easily disclose it. If you want to know, please come to the Military Department later to review the case files.”
Huh, Fourth Brother was countered! Mingzhu immediately looked at this handsome young clerk with a higher regard, but at the same time, she felt deeply troubled. Not giving face like this, could it be that he was on Min’s or Yuwen You’s side?
Fu Mingzheng’s expression looked a bit unpleasant, but he didn’t act as causticly towards Li Haixing as usual. Instead, he smirked and said, “I’ll go. Your case files better be well-prepared. Don’t give me any weaknesses.”
Li Haixing stood up to leave and bowed politely to him, saying, “I will. I bid farewell.” Without waiting for Fu Mingzheng’s response, they turned back to bid farewell to Mingzhu, “Thank you, Wangfei, for your cooperation in the investigation. I bid farewell.”
Mingzhu gestured for Su Lan to escort Li Haixing out, but Fu Mingzheng said, “No need, I have a few words to say to Secretary Li. I’ll escort him out.”
Li Haixing glanced at him silently, without expressing refusal.
The two of them went out one after the other, seemingly without any interaction, but their paces were fast and slow, yet very tacit. Mingzhu had a strange feeling she couldn’t describe. She always felt that there was something unclear between Fu Mingzheng and Li Haixing.
Turning back to look at the sky, she remembered that Yuwen Chu was still waiting for her to arrange the meal. She quickly asked Su Jin, “Has anyone been sent to the kitchen to arrange the meal? His Highness must be hungry.”
Su Jin smiled and pointed outside. Mingzhu saw Yuwen Chu standing there smiling at her and hurried over to ask, “Why has Your Highness come? It’s just routine questioning. I can handle it.”
Yuwen Chu reached out to her, and Mingzhu quickly took his arm, leading him inside, “I haven’t killed anyone or been involved in any killings, so there’s nothing to worry about. Have you and Fourth Brother discussed it?”
“We have,” Yuwen Chu told her, “For the next few days, I’ve decided to feign illness and stay at home. That way, I can avoid getting involved in some things and focus on resolving some important matters. You should take this time to rest and recuperate. Look at you, everyone else gains weight when they’re pregnant, but you’re losing weight.”
Mingzhu refused to admit that she was losing weight, “I eat well and sleep well, so where am I losing weight? At most, I’ve just become more toned.”
Yuwen Chu patted her hand, “I know.”
When lunch was ready, Fu Mingzheng still hadn’t come to eat. Mingzhu asked Wenwen, “Go and remind your Fourth Uncle. We’re all waiting for him.”
Yuwen Chu said, “No need to wait for him. I’ve checked it. That Li Haixing just now is a woman, and they have known each other for a long time.”
Mingzhu widened her eyes, and Wenwen, even more foolishly, asked, “Since when can women be appointed as officials in the court? And in the Military Department? I want to go too!”
“Eat your meal! Children shouldn’t interrupt adults’ affairs!” Mingzhu gave a playful slap to the troublemaking Wenwen, then turned to Yuwen Chu with great interest and asked, “How did Your Highness know she’s a woman? And how did you know they’ve known each other for a long time?” Suddenly realizing that this wasn’t suitable for Wenwen to hear, she shooed her away, “Go eat by yourself. We have things to discuss.”
Wenwen pouted unhappily, but under Mingzhu’s usual authority, she could only lower her head and remain silent. Suddenly seeing Yuwen Chu smiling kindly at her, she immediately became happy, thinking that her uncle was going to support her. However, before she could fully smile, she heard Yuwen Chu say in a gentle but unyielding tone, “Wenwen, go eat by yourself. I have something to discuss with your aunt.”
Wenwen was dumbfounded, looking pitifully at Mingzhu, obviously being kept in the dark about something related to Fourth Uncle, and she really wanted to know.
Mingzhu gave her a look that said, “Your uncle is even more cunning and ruthless than me. Can you count on him?” without a hint of affection, then had Zheng Momo carry her out.
When only the couple remained, Mingzhu immediately moved closer to Yuwen Chu and asked, “Your Highness, please tell me! What’s going on?”
Yuwen Chu said, “This Miss Li is the daughter of Li Dazhong, the commander of the central city military department. Her real name is not Li Haixing; Li Haixing is her elder brother’s name. I don’t know what her name is. I only remember that two years ago, your Fourth Brother went to Pengcheng on official business and was ambushed. Li Dazhong saved him.
When someone told me about this, they mentioned an interesting fact, saying that Li Dazhong has a dark complexion and is basically invisible at night, but unexpectedly, he has such outstanding children. They all inherit their mother’s good looks, are smart, and capable. I’ve met Li Haixing once and know he’s not like that. So when I saw this person today and saw Fourth Brother-in-law’s attitude, I guessed she should be Li Dazhong’s daughter, impersonating her brother. As for her purpose, it may not necessarily be to perform her duties well; I estimate she’s specifically targeting someone.”
Of course, that someone was Fu Mingzheng. Otherwise, it couldn’t explain why this Miss Li repeatedly asked her the same question six times. Mingzhu felt a little scared, “If Fourth Brother hadn’t come out, would she have kept asking me repeatedly? Wasn’t she afraid I would lose my temper and scold her?”
“But you didn’t scold her, which shows she’s quite discerning.” Yuwen Chu pondered for a moment and said, “Li Dazhong has a very upright family style, and he himself is just and moderate. You can have your mother-in-law inquire about it. If the other party is willing, it’s not a bad match.”
Mingzhu began to assess the feasibility of this matter. The more she thought about Miss Li and Fourth Brother’s demeanor, the more she felt there was something to it.
She simply entrusted Wenwen’s marriage to Yuwen Chu as well, “Before, it was almost a matter of entering the palace. Many people were watching, and my second brother is rarely at home, unable to manage household affairs. I inquired last time, and my sister-in-law intends to marry Wenwen to her maternal nephew. That child isn’t bad, but I feel he’s too quiet, not like a man, lacking in masculinity. Your Highness, can you find a better match for Wenwen? And it prevents people from constantly comparing Wenwen to Zifei.”
