Chapter 50: Why?

“You are indeed somewhat arrogant and unreasonable. But not willing to lie in this matter is not entirely bad. How can one casually settle for someone they’ll spend their whole life with?” Yuwen Chu’s tone suddenly softened, “What saddens you is simply that he doesn’t like you. When he sought advice from me at the Jade Emperor Temple, I gave him two suggestions. As long as he took a step back, things wouldn’t have escalated to this point where both sides suffer. But he didn’t listen, insisting on making trouble. Perhaps…”
He looked at Mingzhu intently, and said softly, “Perhaps he also likes you, but is unaware of it. It’s rare to encounter someone you truly like in life. Don’t you want to give him another chance? Otherwise, once missed, it’s gone forever, and you’ll always regret it.”
Yuwen You likes her but doesn’t know it? Give him another chance, and he’ll fall in love with her? She had already tasted the bitterness of this matter, waiting patiently for him with her lifetime, only to gain regret and tears in the end. Mingzhu burst into laughter, tears forming at the corners of her eyes. Yuwen Chu frowned slightly as he watched her, his expression full of questions but no impatience.
After Mingzhu finished laughing, she wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes with her fingertips, and said somewhat arrogantly, “So, is His Highness Ying Wang acting as a mediator for your dear brother?” She gritted her teeth, speaking slowly and deliberately, “Then tell him to give up early! Even if I die, I won’t fall for him again! If he insists on marrying into our family, I’ll make sure he regrets it sooner or later!”
Yuwen Chu sighed softly, “You’re being childish. Don’t let others hear this, or this matter will be interpreted differently.”
“Did I say anything? I didn’t say anything at all. Since you are brothers, you can’t speak up for him, otherwise, it’s covering up!” Mingzhu denied cunningly. Thinking of his previous interactions with Fu Cong, she dared to look at him boldly and asked softly, “So, what does His Highness Ying Wang actually want?”
“Of course, I have my own desires. I wonder if you’re willing to fulfill them.” Yuwen Chu smiled again, a smile that melted like ice and snow, making Mingzhu slightly dizzy. His voice was slightly hoarse, his eyes unusually bright as he stared at Mingzhu, with a hint of inexplicable meaning in his gaze.
So, this is what it looks like to be eagerly anticipating something? Isn’t it just a blueprint? Look how much he covets it. Mingzhu sneered, “If you want to ask about that blueprint, I don’t know anything more than what I’ve already told you.”
Yuwen Chu smiled again, “In that case, let it be.”
Indeed, it’s all about that blueprint, not anything else. Anything that can be solved with money and material possessions isn’t a problem. Mingzhu inexplicably felt relieved, her whole body relaxing. “So, Your Highness, are you unwilling to help me?”
She looked up at him, her smile beautiful and charming, with a hint of pleading. There was a small dimple on her left cheek, and her tone was coquettish, as if trying to please. All the magnificence in the room couldn’t take away from her radiance.
Yuwen Chu suddenly lowered his eyelids and said lightly, “What benefits do I get?”
“Huh?” Mingzhu pretended to be surprised, “A noble gentleman like you actually wants to take advantage of the situation for personal gain? You love wealth, just speak up, although…” Thinking of his previous remark in the Jade Emperor Temple Lingkong winding walkway, “Your family is indeed wealthy,” she smiled, “Actually, my family is not very wealthy, but since I was born, my parents have saved a lot of dowry for me. I am willing to use this dowry in exchange for peace.”
“Don’t you know you should be pleasing me right now? Are you trying to invite trouble with such rudeness?” Yuwen Chu glanced at her coldly and said, “I won’t help you. I will record everything you just said truthfully, including the part where you said you wanted to kill Linan Wang.”
“… ” Mingzhu was speechless for a moment. She had been too arrogant and forgotten that he was someone who counted every penny and would retaliate for any offense.
The room fell silent, even the wind ceased, and the crystal curtains swayed gently, while only the “tick-tock” sound of the bronze hourglass on the table echoed. Mingzhu regretted a bit, sneakily glanced at Yuwen Chu, only to see him half-facing the window, his expression indifferent, but his eyes calm and peaceful, as if he was leisurely enjoying tea and scenery in a beautiful place.
Mingzhu secretly chuckled. She was half asleep, and he came to interrogate her, trying to take advantage, how could he be so relaxed? Clearly, he was confident and waiting for her to bend over and please him, to fall into his trap willingly. He had seen through all her desperate attempts to call off the marriage, and had a hold on her, so he wasn’t in a hurry; she was.
Forget it, let bygones be bygones. Mingzhu put on a smile again, picked up the tea pot, and approached Yuwen Chu to refill his tea. Yuwen Chu remained silent, watching her every move.
She had a pair of delicate and fair hands, not the slender fingers like most beauties, but still carrying a baby-like softness and fullness. When her fingers curled up, cute little dimples would appear on the back of her hand, plump and tender, making people want to take a bite. Although she wasn’t very skilled at pouring tea, she knew not to fill the cup to the brim, stopping at about two-thirds. With her long eyelashes lifted, she smiled at him pleasingly, “Your Highness, please have some tea.”
Yuwen Chu glanced at her, took a sip of tea, intending to make a fuss, but seeing her smiling eyes, he changed his mind and simply put down the cup, got up, and left without a word.
Seeing that he was about to leave, Mingzhu couldn’t help but feel anxious, “Hey…”
Yuwen Chu paused, glanced back at her coldly, “Miss Fu, do you have anything else?”
Mingzhu wouldn’t directly say that she wanted to keep him or please him, so she put on a serious expression and said, “Your Highness still needs to question the servants in my house, right? Please wait a moment, I’ll call them.”
Yuwen Chu said lightly, “No need, let them go to the Dali Temple to testify.”
Mingzhu broke out in a cold sweat, her voice stuttering, “Why?”
A faint smile appeared at the corner of Yuwen Chu’s lips, but he didn’t answer, simply walked away. Mingzhu took a few steps forward, the plea on her lips ultimately swallowed back into her throat, as she watched his tall, blue figure walk away calmly.
Of course, she understood. He came to her house to inquire out of respect for the Fu family and the Empress Dowager, but she offended him, so he had to follow the rules and let the servants and others in her house testify at the Dali Temple.
