Chapter 639: Rescued

He Zhengtu spoke up in time, “Linan Wang, is this really appropriate?”
Yuwen You’s eyes turned cold as he looked at He Zhengtu, “What’s inappropriate? Ying Wang is a traitor. Do you want the Longlin Guards and the elite soldiers to sacrifice themselves for him and his family?”
He Zhengtu pointed at Yuwen Cong, arguing, “I’m not talking about that. I’m asking why Linan Wang wants to let go of this rebel who is holding His Majesty hostage?”
Yuwen You sneered coldly, beheaded a soldier who belonged to Yuwen Long, stepped forward, and pointed his blade diagonally at He Zhengtu, sneering, “Because I think His Majesty is seriously injured and cannot withstand any further agitation. Steward He, do you sympathize with Yuwen Chu, the rebel, so much that you’re opposing me?”
He had been managing the Longlin Guards and the elite soldiers for some time now. Most of the Longlin Guards and the elite soldiers had already been bought by him. Hearing his words, many who had previously obeyed He Zhengtu’s orders now sided with him. Some even advised He Zhengtu, “Steward He, Ying Wang and the Fu were never on our side to begin with. What does their life and death have to do with us? Why involve ourselves?”
He Zhengtu remained unmoved, “All I know is that Ying Wangfei cannot be released, and this villain holding His Majesty hostage cannot be released either.” With a wave of his hand, those who were loyal to him and Yuwen Chu stepped forward, weapons drawn, preventing Yuwen Cong from leaving.
“Who dares to oppose me!” Yuwen You shouted loudly, and his men also charged forward. The clash of weapons resounded, and the situation became intense. Yuwen Cong sighed and said, “Really, just kidnapping someone has caused so much trouble. We have to leave now.”
He looked up at the dark sky, whistled, then lifted Mingzhu and jumped. Mingzhu saw many people standing up, fighting against He Zhengtu’s men under Black Seventeen’s lead. She knew that these people were Yuwen Cong’s hidden men, the nails left behind by Zhongshan Wang in the palace.
She felt that something was wrong. What merits or abilities did she have that made Yuwen Cong invest so heavily in her? If he wanted to threaten Yuwen Chu by holding her hostage, there was no need for it. The input and output should be proportional for it to be meaningful. So why was Yuwen Cong so persistent in capturing her? There must be something she didn’t know about.
Yuwen Cong led Mingzhu through twists and turns, evading many pursuers, and entered a dark palace room. He stopped to catch his breath and complained, “You look thin, but you’re surprisingly heavy.”
Mingzhu felt indignant but couldn’t retort. After a while of silence, Yuwen Cong muttered to himself, “By now, Yuwen Bai should have lost his last breath, right?”
Mingzhu frowned. Didn’t Yuwen Bai pass out from pain? How could he be dead?
Yuwen Cong guessed her thoughts again, “After I easily agreed to his request and let him go, I naturally have a backup plan. There are people of mine around him. As long as I leave, they will take his life. Once he’s dead, the palace will be in chaos, which would also be my credit.”
Someone lightly knocked on the door a few times. Mingzhu listened to the rhythm, which was morbid. Yuwen Cong remained unmoved, still sitting silently. Then the person whispered outside, “Ask who is the most sinister in the world, as sinister as crows and pigs.”
What a mess. Mingzhu complained silently, while Yuwen Cong stood up and opened the door. Several people rushed in against the cold wind and whispered, “Yuwen Chu has already taken control of the entire capital and personally led troops to surround the palace. Many people have been sent to search for the whereabouts of Ying Wangfei. The original route is blocked now, and only Donghua Gate is still in our hands. We must act quickly. Let’s send Fifth Master out now.”
Yuwen Cong sighed, “I regret it a bit. I finally created this chaos, but it seems that it hasn’t helped me at all. Instead, it helped Yuwen Chu take control of the situation in advance. This person’s luck is too good. Every time, he turns adversity into advantage.”
Black Seventeen sneaked in like a ghost and whispered, “Fifth Master, the Little Emperor is dead.”
Yuwen Cong laughed loudly, “Good.” He looked at Mingzhu, “I’m going to separate from Ying Wangfei. Hopefully, three days later, you and I can meet smoothly.”
Before Mingzhu could react, she felt a sudden intense pain in her neck, then everything went black, and she knew nothing more.
Yuwen Cong instructed everyone, “Take her to Donghua Gate, while I take another route. We’ll meet again at the usual place outside the city in three days. If it doesn’t work out, remember to kill her.”
At the fifth watch, the palace, which had been noisy for a long time, finally quieted down. Several people dressed in Longlin Guard attire swaggered towards Donghua Gate. Someone standing on the wall shouted loudly, and the leader of the Longlin Guards replied loudly, “We are ordered by Prime Minister Fu to leave the palace to deliver a message. Here’s the token!”
Someone came down, took their token, and pointed to a person being carried by his companions, asking, “What’s going on here?”
The man replied, “He was injured in the previous battle against the Eight Prince. Now, he needs to be sent out to see a doctor on the way. Brother, you know we’re not qualified to have a royal physician.”
“Let them out.” The guard at Donghua Gate waved his hand from the wall and shouted loudly, “Open the gate and let them out.”
As the Donghua Gate opened wide, with the street just within reach, the Longlin Guards were very happy. They rushed forward, with the one carrying the person lagging behind. Just as he was about to rush past, he saw an iron grid whistling down from above, aiming straight for his head. He exclaimed in fear, stepping back half a step, but it was too late. The iron grid slammed down on his nose, then heavily pierced through his foot that he didn’t have time to retract.
He screamed in pain but ignored the pierced foot and instead drew a dagger from his waist, grabbed the person behind him, and forcefully slashed at her throat.
A diagonal blade came across, making a crisp sound, sparks flying as it knocked his dagger away. He looked up to see Yuwen Chu, clad in black armor, lips tightly pursed, raising his shining long blade and swinging it down at him.
With a muffled sound, he felt a chilling sensation in his neck, hot liquid spraying out, splattering over Yuwen Chu’s body and also falling onto Mingzhu lying on the ground. He was surprised at why he could see so clearly, then he realized that his head had been forcibly chopped off by Ying Wang.
He thought it was over. Fifth Master had done everything, but it was all in vain. Not only did he fail to take this woman away, but he also let her live. But the Little Emperor was already dead, which was also a miraculous feat. Surely Wangye wouldn’t be too hard on Fifth Master? But he was already dead, and he couldn’t care about it anymore.
