Yuwen Bai assured him, “Rest assured, Ying Wang is still alive and well. I’m counting on you to keep him occupied.”
“That’s true. Your Majesty is indeed facing internal and external troubles,” Yuwen Cong murmured with Yuwen Bai for a long time, finally reaching an agreement. Then, they both turned to look at Mingzhu. Yuwen Cong apologized, “I’m sorry, but I have to agree to His Majesty’s request and leave you here.”
As he said this, there seemed to be a glimmer of light in his eyes, seemingly sincere and helpless, but actually full of cunning. Mingzhu couldn’t speak, she could only watch them play their game with each other.
Just as the two reached an agreement, there was a commotion above their heads. In no time, the ceiling was opened, and soft light poured in, revealing the face of He Zhengtu and several sharp swords.
Yuwen Bai ordered He Zhengtu, “Hurry and get me out of here.”
He Zhengtu glanced at Mingzhu, then respectfully said, “Yes.” With a wave of his hand, several Longlin Guards jumped down with swords and quickly sealed off the entrance to the secret passage.
Yuwen Cong smiled faintly, “No need. I’ll send Your Majesty out.” With that, he lifted Yuwen Bai and jumped out, while Black Seventeen carried Mingzhu and followed closely behind.
With armed soldiers inside the Chongzheng Hall, tensions were high. Yuwen Cong didn’t let go of Yuwen Bai, pretending to be intimate as he said, “Please fulfill your promise, Your Majesty.”
Yuwen Bai then commanded He Zhengtu, “Take Ying Wangfei down first.”
He Zhengtu called over the leader of the Longlin Guards to take Mingzhu away. Black Seventeen firmly held onto Mingzhu and refused to let go. Yuwen Cong smiled, “Could Your Majesty write a letter first and then send me and Ying Wangfei out together?”
Yuwen Bai sneered, “I can give you the letter, but you have to let go of me, right? Holding me like this makes me uncomfortable.”
The two were at a stalemate when suddenly, a cold arrow whizzed by. Yuwen Cong dodged it quickly, pushing Yuwen Bai in front of him, holding a dagger to his neck, and said coldly, “Are you trying to force me to kill him?”
Yuwen Bai winced in pain and shouted, “Don’t come any closer, or I’ll kill you!”
“Your Majesty, I just praised your intelligence. Now you’re not being smart,” Yuwen Cong said. “Let’s go. Please escort us out, Your Majesty.” Then he signaled to Black Seventeen, who immediately dropped Mingzhu to the ground, grabbed her, and followed closely behind Yuwen Cong.
Back to back, the two moved together, with He Zhengtu leading a group of people closely behind, looking very worried. Yuwen Bai, with broken legs and injured hands, was in great pain from being manipulated by Yuwen Cong like this. He was furious, “Yuwen Cong, you’ll have a bad death.”
Yuwen Cong chuckled, “Before I die, Your Majesty will die first.”
Yuwen Bai cursed him again, “You traitor!”
Yuwen Cong replied, “A tyrant ruler defies the will of heaven.”
Yuwen Bai couldn’t get anything from him and could only endure silently. Finally, the group managed to move from the Chongzheng Hall to outside, when suddenly, someone shouted loudly, “Listen to me, kill these traitors!”
Mingzhu looked up and saw a figure standing under the blazing torches, clad in military attire. It was Yuwen Long. Surrounded by a group of soldiers, his eyes burned with a fierce fire, clearly indicating his desire to kill Yuwen Bai, Yuwen Cong, Mingzhu, and others.
Yuwen Cong, being of the same mind as Yuwen Long, naturally understood his intentions and smiled, “Your Majesty, your eighth uncle can’t wait for you to die, so he can have a taste of being an emperor.”
“He Zhengtu!” Yuwen Bai shouted, and He Zhengtu understood his meaning. He signaled to the leader of the Longlin Guards, who then stabbed towards Yuwen Long with a spear. Yuwen Long stepped back in fright, and then shouted loudly without any care, “Quickly, protect me and arrest these traitors, save Your Majesty!”
As a result, a group of soldiers rushed up with knives, engaging in a fierce battle with the Longlin Guards. Mingzhu was pulled around by Black Seventeen, maneuvering through the chaos. She couldn’t help but lament that this was simply a chaotic mess, where everyone wanted a piece of the pie and to gain some benefits. But she soon noticed a difference: there were fewer soldiers charging towards her side, and He Zhengtu was commanding the Longlin Guards to protect her as much as possible.
Black Seventeen also noticed this and held her tighter, becoming even more cautious. Yuwen Cong looked at the scene before him, frowned, and said, “Really, even when taking a secret passage, we encounter unexpected events. Can’t I just quietly leave?,” He looked at He Zhengtu, “Isn’t there a saying, capture the king before the thief? Can any of you kill Yuwen Long? Otherwise, we will all die here.”
He Zhengtu hesitated slightly, then shook his head gently.
“Give me a bow and arrow,” Yuwen Cong said, grabbing the unconscious Yuwen Bai with one hand and reaching out to He Zhengtu with the other. Surprisingly, He Zhengtu handed him a bow and arrow. Yuwen Cong handed Yuwen Bai to Black Seventeen and drew the bowstring, aiming at Yuwen Long. But then there was a commotion from behind, and a group of people rushed in. The leader, clad in black armor, hacked his way through and grabbed Yuwen Long by the hair, then swiftly beheaded him.
Dark red blood sprayed out, and Yuwen Long’s head fell, his eyes still wide open, in a deathly stare. The man then lifted his head and shouted loudly, “The traitor Yuwen Long has been executed! Surrender now!”
Surprisingly, the man was Yuwen You.
The whole scene fell silent.
Yuwen Cong was overjoyed, “Linan Wang!”
Yuwen You looked at Yuwen Cong with a dark and inscrutable expression. Yuwen Cong instinctively suppressed his joy, feeling that Yuwen You probably had other intentions. Before he could think of a response, Yuwen You spoke, “Release His Majesty, and I will spare your life and let you go.”
Yuwen Cong was on guard and shook his head decisively, “No, you’ve killed your own brother so easily. Who knows if you’ll chop off my head too?”
Yuwen You raised his palm and swore to the sky, “I, Yuwen You, swear to the heavens. As long as Yuwen Cong releases His Majesty and ensures his safety, I am willing to bear infamy and let him leave safely. Otherwise, may my intestines rot and die a miserable death.”
After hesitating for a moment, Yuwen Cong tossed Yuwen Bai towards Yuwen You.
Yuwen You caught Yuwen Bai steadily and looked at Mingzhu, “What about Ying Wangfei?”
Yuwen Cong shook his head, “You’re pushing it.”
Yuwen You gave up, “Ying Wangfei, consider it sacrificing yourself for His Majesty.”
Mingzhu remained silent. He Zhengtu had already seen her, and therefore Yuwen Chu naturally knew her whereabouts. As long as he hadn’t died and had a way, he would never abandon her. So, why should she be anxious? She just needed to wait patiently.
