Chapter 665 Crazy

Yuwen Chu couldn’t understand why Mingzhu was crying again. After thinking it over, he felt he hadn’t done anything wrong. When she wanted to leave, he immediately stopped her and brought her back. When she didn’t want to talk to him, he stuck close to her, showing his affection. Even when she scratched him, he took it without complaint and joked with her. What more did she want?

Then he remembered what Mingzhu had said about living as Yuwen You’s wife for eight years in her “dream.” It suddenly made sense why she had been so resistant to him, even acting as if a touch from him during their early marriage was like torture.

He felt uncomfortable but knew his jealousy was unreasonable, so he said nothing and sat with her in silence.

Mingzhu waited for a while but heard nothing from him, growing more upset. If she wanted to continue talking and expressing her feelings, he should at least show some encouragement, right? His silence felt like resistance. She couldn’t bring herself to plead, so she decided to leave.

Yuwen Chu’s face darkened as he blocked her way. “I won’t let you leave.”

Mingzhu, choking back tears, laughed coldly. “Who are you to say I can’t leave? I’m going.”

Yuwen Chu, frustrated, rubbed his forehead. How did things get so out of hand? The atmosphere had been fine at first. It seemed his moment of hesitation after hearing her story had caused all this. But can’t someone be allowed to daydream for a moment? Mingzhu herself often zoned out. Even when Jiang Shanshan insulted her, she hadn’t reacted quickly. How had he treated her then? And now she was being so harsh with him!

Seeing his reaction, Mingzhu grew even more irritated. “So, Your Highness won’t let me pass?”

Yuwen Chu replied firmly, “Yes!” If she wouldn’t listen, he’d keep her locked in until she did. He wanted her to realize how unreasonable she was being.

“Fine, fine.” Mingzhu turned and climbed out the window. If she couldn’t leave through the door, she’d go through the window. The window, built low for the view, was easy to climb through. By the time Yuwen Chu reached her, she was already standing in the icy creek water outside.

The creek water was icy cold, chilling her to the bone as it seeped into her small leather boots and soaked her skirt. The cold instantly pierced her skin and marrow, making her tremble almost as soon as she stepped into the water. Nevertheless, she forced a smile and calmly lifted her dripping skirt, walking across to the other side.

Utterly helpless, Yuwen Chu shook his head as he stood by the window, watching her. “Fu Mingzhu, you’re being too stubborn! Don’t you realize it’s water out there? Would you dare to jump even if it were a deep abyss or a large lake beneath?” He would teach her a lesson once he had a free hand, putting an end to her arrogance.

Despite shivering from the cold, Mingzhu still stood proudly, facing him. “Of course I know it’s water! I’m not blind! But I still want to jump! I refuse to be locked up by you. I’ve already told you everything I know, and no amount of pressure from you will squeeze out any more information.”

Yuwen Chu laughed angrily, “Do you actually think I want to lock you up just to squeeze more information out of you?” Pointing at her, he mocked, “Not to put you down, but someone like you, even if you had a stroke of luck, would only know about the small piece of land in front of you. You must be incredibly stupid! Without me, would you be where you are now? Come on, tell me, how did you end up getting yourself killed? It wasn’t your own stupidity, was it?”

He had guessed right, but his words were infuriating. Mingzhu, enraged, shouted, “Yes, I am just an ignorant fool, good for nothing but lazing around. If it weren’t for the mighty Ying Wang, I’d have died of stupidity long ago. Thank you so much! Should I kowtow to you in gratitude?”

Yuwen Chu, unable to respond, said angrily, “I don’t argue with madwomen. We’ll talk when you calm down.”

Mingzhu, feeling cornered and irritated, rolled her eyes and sneered, “Of course, only a madwoman would say something like I did. Congratulations, Ying Wang, you’ve found the perfect excuse. I’m just a raving lunatic. Lunatics can’t be wives. Just give her a bowl of food, keep her from freezing or starving, and that’s enough. Thank you for your kindness! Truly noble of you!”

This time, Yuwen Chu was truly enraged. Pointing at her furiously, he shouted, “Shut up! Watch out or I’ll catch you!”

Mingzhu threw a small stone at him. “Come over if you dare! If you don’t, you’re a coward! All talk and no action!” No sooner had she finished speaking than Yuwen Chu jumped out of the window, waded through the creek, and rushed at her with a fierce expression, as if he wanted to devour her. Frightened, she swallowed her provocative words, turned around, and ran towards the low hill.

She had barely run a few steps when Yuwen Chu caught her. She struggled wildly, “Let me go! Are you going to kill me to silence me? I’ll tell you, it won’t be easy!”

Her loud voice startled many birds, and someone nearby called out to see what was happening. Yuwen Chu, both embarrassed and afraid of being overheard, quickly covered her mouth and whispered, “Please, even if you don’t care about yourself, think about Zhuangzhuang.”

Mingzhu’s struggle had warmed her up, dispelling the chill from her wet shoes, socks, and skirt. Her face flushed slightly, she panted and whispered, “How dare you mention Zhuangzhuang! He’s mine! He’s mine! I won’t let him suffer with you. If you want to torment someone, torment those brats born from your fox spirits!”

The thought of Yuwen Chu fathering many children with other women made Mingzhu even more upset. She tightly hugged his shoulders and bit him hard as a preemptive revenge.

Yuwen Chu cried out in pain, “Mother!” and barely resisted the urge to spank her. He dragged Mingzhu to a clump of old bamboo, pushed her against a bamboo stalk, and barked, “Stand still!”

Mingzhu defiantly replied, “I won’t! What will you do about it?”

Yuwen Chu grabbed her face and bit her lip hard.
