Chapter 666: Ducks Fighting

Yuwen Chu, still furious, bit down harder, wanting to cause her pain. But then he tasted salt—her tears. Mingzhu’s eyes were tightly shut, her face wet with tears. She cowered, looking more fragile than ever, as if a bit more pressure from him would break her.
Filled with a mix of anger, pain, and pity, Yuwen Chu, after biting her lip, held her mouth gently. He wanted to make up, thinking that couples often fight and then reconcile. But before he could take it further, Mingzhu pushed him away resolutely. She looked at him with determination and said, “Don’t think you can win me over with this. It won’t work.”
Yuwen Chu, equally annoyed, let her go. “What do you want then?”
Mingzhu turned her head away from his angry gaze. “Nothing. I just want to know your true thoughts, without any pretense. And don’t try to distract me with actions. This matter is very serious.”
As if he didn’t take this matter seriously! Yuwen Chu took a deep breath and said, “Alright, let’s seriously talk about this.”
A cold wind blew, making Mingzhu’s wet shoes and socks even colder and stiffer. She sneezed loudly. Yuwen Chu, watching her coldly, said, “Cold, aren’t you? Serves you right! You asked for it!” Despite his words, he grabbed her hand and dragged her back toward the house.
Mingzhu struggled briefly but couldn’t break free, so she let him drag her to the creek. She knew he valued his reputation and wouldn’t want today’s events to be known. So, she guessed he would pull her back, sneak them inside through the window, and then have someone quietly bring dry clothes and shoes. She wanted to see if he’d let her walk back normally or make her wade through the cold water again.
But Yuwen Chu, without any discussion, hoisted her onto his shoulder like a sack of grain, pressing her stomach with his shoulder, and quickly waded through the creek. She heard his teeth chattering and felt his muscles tense, clearly as cold as she was.
Whether from the cold or Yuwen Chu’s shoulder pressing into her stomach, Mingzhu felt nauseous. She barely held it in and turned her head to glance at Yuwen Chu’s face.
He seemed aware of her gaze but ignored her, his jaw clenched, eyes fixed ahead, his face cold. The creek wasn’t wide, and Yuwen Chu quickly reached the window. Without any gentleness, he tossed her inside like a sack of grain.
Just inside the window was a cushioned seat, so falling onto it wasn’t painful, but being tossed in like that was undeniably embarrassing. Mingzhu felt a bit uneasy but didn’t think her actions were wrong. She might have been impulsive, but she knew her own temperament well enough to know that showing a bit of stubbornness was necessary to keep him in check.
She wanted to make it clear to him that she wasn’t someone who could be easily manipulated. There were things she would never yield on, even if it meant risking her life. Some things were better left unsaid, and some actions were best avoided. Attitude mattered, especially since she was obviously in a weaker position. If she acted like a pushover, she couldn’t blame him for treating her like one.
Yuwen Chu followed her in through the window, and compared to Mingzhu’s disheveled state, he was composed and elegant. He calmly adjusted his clothes, took off his wet boots, and knelt down properly in front of her, looking at her with a cold, menacing gaze.
Mingzhu met his gaze, refusing to back down. She felt she had done nothing wrong. After all, it wasn’t her choice to be reborn. Sure, she had wished for a second chance, but she hadn’t chosen to marry him; he had insisted on marrying her.
With that thought, she straightened up with renewed confidence, “Don’t look at me like you’ve been deceived. You’re the one who insisted on marrying me, not the other way around.”
“Of course, you’re blind. You’re blind with your eyes open, always unable to see reality or people clearly. If I didn’t help clear your eyes, you’d stay blind forever,” Yuwen Chu retorted sarcastically, clapping his hands to summon someone.
Wei Tiande entered, head bowed, and upon seeing their disheveled state, his expression turned complicated. The young highness and Wangfei really were like a pair of young lovebirds; even a few days apart seemed like years, and they had to seize any moment to have a dramatic fight. Look at the mess they’d made, soaking their clothes in the process. In this cold weather, during a period of national mourning no less, heavens, was such behavior really appropriate?
Yuwen Chu, seeing his sly look, grew angrier and threw a teacup at him, “Quietly fetch dry clothes and shoes for both Wangfei and I. If anyone finds out, you can bring me your head.”
Wei Tiande quickly sobered up, touched his cold neck, and hurried out.
Feeling cold, Mingzhu moved closer to the fire, took off her shoes and socks, and wrung out her skirt. Yuwen Chu watched her coldly for a while before saying, “Shen Ruilin.”
Mingzhu, warming herself, ignored him.
Yuwen Chu, impatient, tapped the tea table and raised his voice, “Shen Ruilin! I’m talking to you, Fu Mingzhu. Don’t you think you owe me an explanation?”
Mingzhu, furious, retorted, “I owe you nothing. Absolutely nothing. If you find me strange or scary, unworthy of being Ying Wangfei, just say so. What do you mean I owe you an explanation? Don’t pick a fight. I’m not in a good mood.”
Yuwen Chu, glancing sideways at her, said, “You’re in a bad mood? I’m in an even worse one. You said you didn’t want to marry me, that I was the one who insisted on marrying you. How could I forget? You originally wanted to marry Shen Ruilin. You were willing to sacrifice your reputation and family honor for him. Is he worth it?”
Mingzhu threw a boot at him, “That’s enough!”
Yuwen Chu angrily poured himself a cup of cold tea and drank it in one gulp.
Mingzhu, looking sideways at him, said, “You’re gulping it down like a cow.”
Yuwen Chu turned and glared at her. She glared back, even puffing out her chest as if to ask, “Do you want to fight? I’m up for it.”
Yuwen Chu suddenly laughed, “You look just like a duck about to peck.”
