Chapter 712: Spitting All Over You

Seeing Mingzhu pass something over, Jiang Zhouzi didn’t show any surprise. He casually adjusted his sleeve and concealed the token.
The road was rough, especially traveling at night without any illumination, causing the carriage to jostle severely. Mingzhu felt dizzy and heavy, unable to perceive pain or discomfort, only harboring resentment. She must kill Yuwen Cong no matter what, and make sure he died without a burial place.
Jiang Zhouzi sighed, “So tired, it’s exhausting. Let me take a nap. Wake me up when we arrive.”
Yuwen Cong chuckled, “Sure, feel free to sleep.”
Jiang Zhouzi nudged Mingzhu discreetly, indicating that she should force herself to rest for a while.
This child had been through so much yet remained so resilient. They must be a very obedient and good baby. Gritting her teeth amidst the heartbreak and pain, Mingzhu fell asleep. When she woke up again, it was already dawn. The morning light streamed in through the window of the carriage. She saw Jiang Zhouzi wrapped in a blanket sleeping soundly at her feet, while Yuwen Cong was nowhere to be seen. The carriage was stationary.
She thought for a moment, then gently kicked Jiang Zhouzi. Jiang Zhouzi stirred and opened his eyes, signaling to her with a glance to not make any sudden moves. Mingzhu closed her eyes again, pretending to be unconscious. She heard a man’s voice outside asking loudly, “Where is Fifth Young Master heading?”
Then came Yuwen Cong’s lazy voice, “Where else can we go? We’re heading to Yicheng.” He yawned lazily again, “Is Huan Wang here? Is he in Yicheng or in the military camp?”
The voice of the man who had previously inquired about their destination immediately became respectful, “In response to Fifth Young Master, Huan Wang returned to Yicheng last night.”
Yuwen Cong replied, “Then I’ll hurry to Yicheng to have breakfast with His Highness.”
The man’s voice became cheerful, “If Fifth Young Master wants to have breakfast with His Highness, please hurry. Our Highness’s mealtime is the most punctual.”
“My shoulder hurts badly, so I can’t hurry.” Yuwen Cong complained, then paused and said, “Everyone has worked hard. Take this money and buy some wine.”
Mingzhu guessed that Yuwen Cong was rewarding money to Huan Wang’s subordinates. As expected, she heard the man laugh heartily, “Fifth Young Master is too polite. I won’t be polite then. I’ll treat you to a drink another day. Farewell, no need for further escort.”
Mingzhu quickly adjusted her breathing, trying to appear natural.
The carriage sank slightly, and Yuwen Cong, with the morning chill wrapped around him, walked in. He glanced at Mingzhu, then sat down beside her and said calmly, “Let’s go.”
The carriage started moving again, and Yuwen Cong didn’t make any other moves. Mingzhu stole a glance from the corner of her eye and saw him leaning against the carriage wall, staring at her. She closed her eyes again in fear.
Yuwen Cong smiled and didn’t expose her, falling asleep soon after.
After some time, the carriage slowed down, and someone outside was questioning loudly. Another voice sternly shouted, “This is the carriage of the Northern Territory envoy. What do you mean?”
Yuwen Cong opened his eyes and said in a deep voice, “Mengtai, be polite.”
“Sir, they actually said they want to search the carriage. It’s disrespectful.”
Yuwen Cong lifted the curtain and leaned out, “Who wants to search the carriage?”
“It’s a misunderstanding. The subordinates didn’t know it was an envoy. We were rude, please forgive us, sir.”
“You’re loyal to your duty, I don’t blame you.” Yuwen Cong withdrew back inside, closing his eyes again and said calmly, “Let’s go.”
Mingzhu heard the bustling sounds outside and felt her stomach growl uncontrollably. She didn’t want to eat, but her stomach had a mind of its own.
The carriage stopped again, and Yuwen Cong said, “Go buy some Yang’s spring rolls.”
Jiang Zhouzi yawned widely, waking up. “What delicious food is Fifth Young Master buying? Buy more, I’m starving.”
“As long as you cooperate, you can have whatever you want to eat. Mountain delicacies and seafood are all yours to enjoy. I guarantee your safety as well.” Yuwen Cong glanced meaningfully at Mingzhu and asked, “Mr. Jiang, when can you take a look at the Regent Wangfei? Why hasn’t she woken up yet? If Mr. Jiang can’t bear to see, I’ll have to find someone else to take care of her. I’m afraid those people won’t handle her with care and might harm the baby in her belly.”
Mingzhu tensed up, and heard Jiang Zhouzi casually say, “She woke up, but at that time, Fifth Young Master was being detained and questioned on the road, and then she fell asleep again.” He lowered his voice and whispered, “As you know, the stimulation was quite intense. Just being asleep is already good.”
“Just being asleep is good.” Yuwen Cong, seeing his subordinates bringing the spring rolls, instructed Jiang Zhouzi to wake up Mingzhu, “Let the Wangfei wake up and have something to eat. These spring rolls are moderately spicy and sour, very appetizing.”
Jiang Zhouzi pretended to shake Mingzhu a couple of times. Mingzhu opened her eyes indifferently, glanced coldly at Yuwen Cong, and reached out to take the spring rolls. She had no grudge against food. However, her hands were still stained with Jing Song’s blood. She looked at the bloodstains, then at the spring rolls, and thought of Jing Song dying with an empty stomach. Unable to control herself, she took a bite of the spring rolls. Before she could swallow it, she felt nauseous. Without bothering to control herself, she vomited all over Yuwen Cong, directly spitting in his face.
Yuwen Cong had just picked up a mouthful of rice noodles when he was splattered with vomit all over his face by Mingzhu. He was a bit stunned, sitting there motionless, not knowing how to react.
Jiang Zhouzi was afraid that Mingzhu’s actions might anger Yuwen Cong and cause trouble, so he quickly intervened, saying, “Your Highness, are you feeling unwell? Lie down quickly. If you can’t eat, then don’t force yourself. We’ll make some congee for you later.” Without waiting for Mingzhu’s response, he turned back to Yuwen Cong and quietly explained, “She’s never experienced hardship or seen death before. She was frightened last night, seeing all the blood on her hands. It’s probably because of that. It wasn’t intentional.”
Yuwen Cong understood deep down that it was intentional. A woman like Mingzhu, born into nobility, received different upbringing from childhood. Even if she were to suffocate, she wouldn’t do something so disgusting in public. Yet she did it, and it was aimed directly at him. If it weren’t because she loathed him to the core and intentionally wanted to disturb him, he simply wouldn’t believe it.
He couldn’t pretend not to be angry either. He had never been so disgusted in his life. He angrily dropped the chopsticks, intending to get off the carriage to clean up, but he feared that Huan Wang’s people might take advantage and snatch Mingzhu away. So, he gritted his teeth, wiped his face with a handkerchief without saying a word, and just slammed the carriage wall twice heavily.
“Tell me if you’re feeling unwell. I’ll do my best to ensure your safety.” Jiang Zhouzi whispered to Mingzhu. Mingzhu looked at him with a blank expression, then pointed to her ears, “I can’t hear.” She had decided. Wasn’t she rendered deaf by Jiang Shanshan’s explosion? Now, the shock was too great, and the old illness had recurred, causing her to lose her hearing again! What could they do about it!
