“Negotiate? With you?” The Longsheng Great Eldest Princess sneered contemptuously, “Fu Mingzhu, you probably don’t realize your only luck is being born into a good family, having a good marriage. That’s why you can do whatever you please. In reality, your brain is full of cotton! People don’t say it to your face out of courtesy, but don’t pretend to be unaware and disgrace yourself.”
Was she trying to provoke her into losing her temper and veering off course? Mingzhu remained unfazed, calm and composed. “Yes, I’m lucky. I was born well, married well, and my brain is full of cotton. But didn’t you also have a good birth and a good marriage? You claim your brain is filled with gold, yet here you are, my prisoner! You talk about disgrace, but you embody it.”
The Longsheng Great Eldest Princess’s face twisted, and she spat out a curse, “I had a good birth but met a lousy husband! Cui Weiyou, that coward, why doesn’t he just die!”
Mingzhu laughed coldly, “What more do you want? The heir of the Cui family, young and handsome, renowned for his talent, ruined his future by marrying you. He’s endured countless humiliations, allowed you to act recklessly, and you turned a promising young man into an old wreck. Are you still not satisfied? Did you wish to marry a prince or a duke? Why didn’t you ask the late emperor to arrange a marriage for you? Many princesses have married commoners, yet none have lived as miserably as you. It’s clearly your fault! No matter who you marry, you’re incapable of living a good life.”
The Longsheng Great Eldest Princess raged, “You impudent girl, how dare you!”
“Because you’re a condemned person, and my life is better than yours. What will you do? I’m calling you out, what can you do?” Mingzhu smiled slightly, “Are you done yelling? Let’s get to the real business.”
The Longsheng Great Eldest Princess felt a surge of satisfaction. “Cui Weiyou told me everything. Don’t even think about it! Admit guilt and hand over the real register? Even if I die, I won’t agree. Forget about it.”
“Grand Princess, you are a heroine, decisive and unafraid of death. I know that.” Mingzhu slowed her speech, enunciating clearly, “But, have you thought about your youngest son? Out of fear and respect for you, he almost got beaten to death and now is crippled. Because of his pity and sympathy for you, his heart aches for his two brothers who died violently. He’s become your pawn. Now, you have a chance to give him a way out. Will you take it?”
The Longsheng Great Eldest Princess pressed her lips tightly, her eyes burning with fury and resentment. Mingzhu stared back without backing down, speaking softly, “As a mother, I despise you! You gave birth to three sons and destroyed them all. They were unfortunate to be born to you.”
These words greatly provoked the Longsheng Great Eldest Princess. She lunged at Mingzhu with her claws out, “I’ll tear you apart, you smug little b*tch!”
Xia Xue lightly extended her foot, tripping the princess, who fell face-first. She stayed on the ground, yelling, “Don’t even think about it! Dream on! I want to see you suffer, to see you die, to see you become despised by everyone.”
“Such naivety,” Mingzhu sighed. “Your youngest son has already confessed. This crime warrants the extermination of your entire family. You claim to seek revenge for your two deceased sons and to care for your youngest, but is your version of motherly love sending all your sons and their bloodlines to their deaths?”
“You dare!” The Grand Princess’s eyes were bloodshot.
Mingzhu smiled, “What do you think? I’m not here to beg you but out of pity for Princess Consort Cui who has buried his children, and out of sympathy for Third Master Cui’s youth and ignorance. If you refuse, so be it.”
She pretended to leave, and the Grand Princess laughed maniacally, “I refuse! Tell Yuwen Chu I wish him dead, despised by all! And you, die together as a loving couple!”
Mingzhu said, “I understand now. You don’t care at all about Third Master Cui or your grandchildren’s lives. You just want to take revenge on us and help your brother, the rebel of Zhongshan.”
A flicker of hesitation crossed the Longsheng Great Eldest Princess’s eyes. How could she not care for her own children and grandchildren? However, she guessed that with Yuwen Chu’s temperament, he probably wouldn’t harm Princess Consort Cui or the innocent women and children. As for Third Master Cui, she closed her eyes briefly and said coldly, “Sanlang is just a cripple; he’s of no use alive. If you want his life, take it. Stop trying to sway me. Fu Zhan and those with you are guilty of conspiring to murder court officials, and the evidence is undeniable. No matter how you spin the story, it will be full of holes. I’m looking forward to seeing how you handle the trial.”
“You didn’t take him with you when you fled because you considered him a burden?” Mingzhu couldn’t understand such a mother. To talk about her son’s life so casually, saying he’s just a cripple and of no use alive, how unfortunate Third Master Cui was to have such a mother.
The Longsheng Great Eldest Princess sneered, “Isn’t he a burden? So don’t think you can use him to threaten me.”
Mingzhu looked at Dong Hui, who clapped her hands. Ye Xiu, in the next room, suddenly removed Third Master Cui’s hood and the cloth from his mouth. Third Master Cui, sweating profusely and with a flushed face, panted heavily, staring blankly at the white wall without moving.
Ye Xiu noticed something was off with Third Master Cui’s demeanor. Fearing he might have a sudden medical emergency due to the shock, he quickly checked Third Master Cui’s pulse. But Third Master Cui suddenly turned his head, his eyes bloodshot and fierce, shouting, “Don’t touch me!”
His eyes were filled with despair and sorrow. Angrily and helplessly, he lowered his head, pounding his numb legs and crying out loudly, “I’m a cripple, a useless person, a burden, so I deserve to be abandoned, deserve to die!”
Hearing his cries from the next room, the Longsheng Great Eldest Princess’s cold expression finally cracked. She glared at Mingzhu with anger, “Fu Mingzhu, you’re despicable.”
Mingzhu shook her head slightly, “It’s not me who’s despicable; it’s you who failed as a mother.”
The Longsheng Great Eldest Princess nearly went mad, “I failed? For whom? Wasn’t it all for them? If I had won, wouldn’t they have been wealthy and honored? They should have been grateful to me then!”
