Madam He shouted sharply and tried to stand up, but Qi Yuan expressionlessly stepped on her back, pressing her down again. Only then did she lightly curl her lips. “Madam He, I didn’t tell you to move, so you’d better not move.”
As she spoke, she pulled over a chair from the side and sat down. Her foot remained firmly planted on Madam He’s back while she coldly closed her eyes to rest.
She hadn’t slept since coming back, and was actually a little tired.
Old Madam Qi snapped out of the chaos and shock and mentally prepared herself.
Today, there would probably be bloodshed.
Seeing the struggle on Old Madam Wang’s face, she tugged at her hand and led her outside before sighing. “Don’t be muddle-headed about today’s matter. After what the He family has done, the kinship between the two families is completely over.”
She spoke bluntly: “You saw your daughter-in-law’s attitude just now. There’s no way she’ll accept marrying her daughter to the culprit. You must stand on Ah Chan’s side even more.”
To be honest, Old Madam Qi felt the He family was simply too greedy.
Even if they truly wanted a marriage alliance, it should have been done openly and properly.
What was this supposed to be?
It was too despicable!
They wanted to marry a girl from the Wang family, yet felt the Wang family was too high and mighty, so they resorted to such underhanded means, ruining the girl’s reputation.
Then they could look down on the Wang family and Wang Chan from above.
Simply freeloading while acting arrogant.
Old Madam Wang painfully closed her eyes.
Her mother had passed away early, so she had personally raised her younger brother.
If their bond hadn’t been deep, she wouldn’t have supported the He family for so many years.
But now, the He family had schemed against her granddaughter!
She had also clearly seen how intense Madam Lu’s attitude had been just now.
At this point, if she still spoke on behalf of the He family, the first people she would offend would be her own son and daughter-in-law.
She gave a bitter smile. “I never would have dreamed that at my age, I’d still be schemed against by my own juniors.”
Old Madam Qi was much more open-minded. “You’re only confused because you care too much. Otherwise, isn’t the world always like this? Wealth moves people’s hearts, and power blinds the eyes. What relatives or friends? In front of profit, it’s always the same.”
Just as she finished speaking, the steward hurried in to report that He Shengchang had arrived.
Old Madam Wang’s hands immediately tightened.
Inside the room, Qi Yuan also heard the movement and glanced at Madam Lu. “Aunt, let him in.”
Madam Lu gritted her teeth and agreed, going out to give instructions. “Invite the young master in.”
He Shengchang was not surprised at all that the Wang family had sent for him.
He knew very well that the reason the Wang family had come to invite him must be that his mother’s trip had taken effect.
Thinking this, he straightened his robe and strode up the steps, knocking on the door.
As he entered, he had expected to see his cousin looking delicate and pitiful with grievance written all over her face, Madam Lu crying in gratitude, and Old Madam Wang appearing moved and ashamed.
But unexpectedly, the moment he entered, he saw Madam He being stepped on by a young girl.
This was completely different from what he had imagined, and he froze in shock.
Madam He had been cursing nonstop earlier.
But every time she cursed, Qi Yuan kicked her once.
Later on, she could not utter a single word at all.
Now, upon seeing He Shengchang, she struggled to shout, “Ah Sheng!”
He Shengchang could hardly recognize that this person was his own mother. Only after hearing the voice did he walk forward in shock and cry out in disbelief, “Mother?!”
He was furious and indignantly questioned Old Madam Wang and Madam Lu, “Great-Aunt, what are you doing?!”
What are they doing?
Madam Lu sneered. “Don’t you know what shameless thing you people have done?”
She was filled with resentment.
At that question, He Shengchang felt as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over his head.
What was going on?
Normally, when he came this time, shouldn’t the Wang family be crying and kneeling, begging him to marry Wang Chan and treating him as their lifesaving straw?
Why was Madam Lu now acting like this?
And Old Madam Wang was also coldly silent.
He instinctively looked toward his mother.
At that moment, Qi Yuan lightly curled her lips and laughed softly. “Young Master He, the painting hidden in the sachet, it was drawn by you, wasn’t it?”
He Shengchang took a step back and opened his mouth, only to feel his throat turn dry.
He had never seen this girl before, who exactly was she?
Qi Yuan’s expression remained indifferent. She lowered her eyes to glance at Madam He. “Young Master He, you’d better tell the truth. Otherwise, your mother won’t have an easy time.”
He Shengchang’s face flushed red, completely caught off guard.
He simply couldn’t figure out how the matter had been exposed.
Qi Yuan smiled leisurely. “If you don’t speak, I’ll take that as your admission.”
He Shengchang felt as though his entire body was on fire.
A sense of shame surged up, as if everything about him had been seen through by Qi Yuan.
He shouted sharply, “I don’t know what nonsense you’re talking about!”
“Is that so?” Qi Yuan responded lightly. Suddenly she bent down, grabbed one of Madam He’s fingers, and forcefully snapped it.
Madam He immediately let out a scream.
He Shengchang’s face twitched violently as he rushed forward. “You wretch—”
Before he could finish, Qi Yuan hooked a stool with her foot and kicked it backward. The stool slammed into He Shengchang, sending him flying as he crashed heavily to the ground.
Then, without hesitation, Qi Yuan grabbed another of Madam He’s fingers and applied force.
Madam He cried and wailed in agony on the ground.
She had lived a life of luxury, when had she ever suffered like this?
For her, this was no different from torture.
Qi Yuan slowly turned her head to look at He Shengchang. “I heard your father favors his concubine and doesn’t care much for your mother. You are your mother’s lifeline, you wouldn’t be so heartless as to watch her die, would you?”
As she spoke, she smiled and raised her brows at him. “If you still don’t speak, soon your mother’s entire hand will be broken.”
Mad!
Truly mad!
He had never seen a woman like this, never seen anyone this insane!
He Shengchang felt dizzy, his thoughts slowing. Only when he saw Qi Yuan reaching again for Madam He’s hand did he finally break. “It was me! I drew it!”
So it really was.
Qi Yuan stopped her hand and stepped forward, grabbing He Shengchang by the throat. “What else do you have in your possession?”
Only then did He Shengchang understand why his mother had been unable to resist at all, this woman’s strength was simply too great!
With his neck gripped by her, it felt like being clamped by iron pincers; he couldn’t move at all.
He felt his breathing grow difficult, cold sweat breaking out across his forehead, and he couldn’t help but cry in collapse. “There’s also her personal jade pendant, and her undergarment! That’s all, that’s all!”
