A female Alpha dressed in a dark blue special police uniform, three stars engraved on her shoulder, with black hair and silver eyes, walked over. Her long legs were straight and powerful, a gun strapped at her waist. Her cold silver eyes swept sharply over Zuo Shihuan and Gu Heng inside the hover car.
Suddenly sensing a cold and piercing gaze.
Gu Heng subconsciously shielded Zuo Shihuan and immediately stopped fooling around, his deep and sharp black eyes narrowing.
After seeing who it was, he instantly returned to his usual expression.
The newcomer was a female Alpha special police officer of the Federation. Judging by her appearance, her rank was not low, she was not an ordinary Federation police officer. At least, she was nothing like the clean and pure, little-white-rabbit-like Beta traffic officer Wu beside them.
This female Alpha special police officer had likely experienced quite a few cases. Her temperament gave Gu Heng a familiar scent of a hunting dog.
Gu Heng sneered inwardly.
Another hunting dog specially cultivated by the Federation.
There was no need to think much to know that the Zuo family had requested personnel from the Federation authorities. It seemed the Zuo family must have paid quite a price for the Federation government to be willing to dispatch such an elite hunting dog.
These hunting dogs knew nothing else, but they were good at blocking roads and standing at entrances, using their dog noses to sniff out prey.
Unfortunately, these Federation hunting dogs could at most catch rabbits in burrows. Abetting evil, they obeyed their masters’ orders to bite people everywhere, even biting their own kind.
Gu Heng had seen quite a few of these Federation hunting dogs before, sent to suppress riots and resistance among civilians on the Federation’s fringes. Even unarmed, innocent Federation civilians could be mercilessly slaughtered without hesitation.
It even made Gu Heng somewhat amazed at the Federation authorities’ superb skill at raising dogs.
But this kind of Federation hunting dog was completely useless against truly ferocious enemies. Otherwise, Gu Heng might have felt at least a bit of admiration for this kind of loyal, life-disregarding Federation hunting dog.
Perhaps the Federation had stayed in the rear for too long, living too comfortably.
Unlike the territories of the Empire and the Zerg, which are extremely close geographically and have never ceased border frictions, at longest, a large-scale war breaks out once every decade or so; at shortest, conflicts can rage continuously within a single year.
In name, the Empire regards the Federation as a traitor of history and has long been in an enemy-state relationship. But due to various historical and cultural reasons, and with the Zerg constantly tying down the Empire’s attention, the Empire has rarely had direct conflicts with the Federation and has no interest in the Federation’s territory. So on the surface, the Empire and the Federation authorities are at odds, but among the common people, Imperial citizens and Federation citizens have always maintained exchanges and commercial trade, and intermarriage among civilians is also common.
Occasionally, Gu Heng would even feel it was a pity.
It was rare to find talent with such decent, blood-unfearing ability, yet they were treated as hunting dogs, used to tear into their own people, simply a waste!
But this was ultimately the Federation’s internal matter. Gu Heng could not control it and did not want to. The Federation’s internal dog-eat-dog struggles were a good thing for the Empire.
At most, when Gu Heng could not bear to watch, he would pick up some Federation talents and bring them back to the Empire.
But today, Gu Heng did not care about any Federation hunting dogs. If they interfered with his and Zuo Shihuan’s date, he would just slaughter them directly. No matter how many Federation hunting dogs there were, they could not harm a single hair on him.
However, even if he looked down on these Federation hunting dogs, he would not be stupid enough to directly reveal it and expose himself.
On this side, Officer Wu saw the newcomer and immediately lit up with starry eyes, shouting, “Officer Di, you’re here!”
Officer Di appeared cold-faced, but in fact, when she saw the petite and enthusiastic Officer Wu, she could not help but grow nervous. The more nervous she was, the more she furrowed her brows, appearing even colder and more serious as she said, “Officer Wu, you just asked me for help. What did these two people do?”
The female Alpha officer narrowed her silver eyes slightly and cast a cold, sharp gaze toward Gu Heng and Zuo Shihuan inside the hovercar.
The moment Officer Wu said what crime the two had committed, she would immediately arrest them.
Of course, the female Alpha officer’s gaze did not escape Gu Heng’s notice. His black eyes darkened, a trace of cold sharpness flashing through them, and he pulled Zuo Shihuan into his arms, pressing him against his chest, his palm supporting the back of Zuo Shihuan’s head.
For the moment, he did not let Zuo Shihuan lift his head and show his face.
He was not worried that the Empire’s disguiser would be detected by the Federation’s hunting dogs, but Zuo Shihuan had not undergone professional training like he had. A slight inability to control a flicker of surprise or fear on his face might expose an anomaly to the Federation’s hunting dogs.
So Gu Heng temporarily did not let Zuo Shihuan show his face, yet acted as if nothing were wrong. Curling his lips into a casual, unrestrained smile, he said, “Officers, my Alpha boyfriend and I were just playing around. Surely it doesn’t warrant dispatching two officers to keep an eye on us, ”
The female Alpha named Officer Di ignored Gu Heng’s words and instead turned her gaze to Officer Wu beside her. A flash passed through her silver eyes, nervousness, caution, and gentleness, so fleeting that even she did not notice it, as she asked Officer Wu, “Officer Wu, is what he said true?”
Officer Wu widened her dazed eyes, not knowing how to explain. She looked at the two people in the hovercar who were no longer fighting and were now embracing intimately as if nothing had happened.
Just moments ago, it had looked fully armed like a domestic violence scene, scaring her so much she had no idea how to handle it. And the Beta who seemed to be getting beaten… somehow also looked like he kind of deserved a beating.
Couples were truly incomprehensible!
How could they be kissing and hugging one moment, and then start fighting and hitting each other without hesitation the next?!
It left Officer Wu confused, unsure whether she should intervene.
But when the couple calmed down and leaned into each other, the affectionate atmosphere between them seemed to bubble up with pink bubbles, looking extremely well-matched and harmonious, as if they were inseparable, as though no outsider could enter their world of just the two of them.
It made Officer Wu mutter inwardly, holding her little notebook, unsure whether she should issue this couple a ticket.
Thinking back to the scene just now.
One had been roughhousing, one had been laughing loudly.
The two had merely been playing around again, and the Beta who had been “hit” did not even have a scratch on him. It was clear the other person had exercised great restraint, suppressing his anger.
Somehow, it was a little enviable.
It even made Officer Wu, a Beta who had never been in love, who had focused single-mindedly on getting into the Federation Police Academy to serve the country and, incidentally, to find a stable job, begin to feel just a tiny bit of longing and small anticipation for falling in love.
“Officer Wu?”
A clear and cool female voice, carrying a hint of gentleness, suddenly sounded beside Officer Wu.
Startled back to her senses, Officer Wu quickly said, “Ah, I’m fine.”
She looked up at her tall, cool-tempered female Alpha colleague. Her silver eyes were like a bright, gleaming crescent moon.
A little sparkling and beautiful.
Come to think of it, Officer Di was also an Alpha.
Today was also her first time meeting Officer Di, because of a sudden arrangement from higher-ups that forced her painfully onto the early shift.
Reporting to work before dawn broke.
When she had arrived yawning, she discovered that at some point her superiors had dispatched a squad of imposing special police officers, including this Officer Di.
It immediately made Officer Wu snap to attention and straighten her back, thinking she absolutely could not lose face for their Federation traffic police!
She had worked nervously all morning in her best condition.
But she noticed that Officer Di stood alone, having also worked the entire morning, and no other officers had gone to talk with her.
Even during the noon break for lunch, she had been alone.
The other special police officers who came with her had already made friends, arranging to eat and chat with other officers, only Officer Di still looked solitary and alone.
Perhaps it was because Officer Di looked a bit fierce and had a cold manner of ignoring people.
It made Officer Wu feel somewhat soft-hearted, so she took the initiative to talk to Officer Di.
At first, Officer Wu had been a little nervous, but she discovered that although Officer Di looked aloof and unapproachable, she was actually quite easy to talk to and get along with.
She just did not understand why the other special police officers ignored Officer Di. Clearly, Officer Di was a very good person.
(Other Federation special police officers: …Ah yes, yes, yes! The female Alpha Officer Di, publicly recognized as the Silver Hunting Dog, is a very good person! She definitely doesn’t ignore people during missions, nor look at people coldly, and certainly doesn’t beat us black and blue without holding back during training, baring our teeth in pain with bruised faces, then walk away without even saying a single hypocritical word of concern (╥﹏╥).)
Officer Wu friendly patted Officer Di on the shoulder, completely failing to notice Officer Di’s instant reflexive blocking motion, and how, after realizing it was Officer Wu, she immediately relaxed, then inexplicably became nervous and cautious.
“It’s nothing, just a small misunderstanding. Thank you, Officer Di, for coming to help me!”
After flashing a bright and cute smile to express her thanks to Officer Di, Officer Wu immediately turned around, scrunched her nose, put on a serious expression, and took out her little notebook to speak to Gu Heng and Zuo Shihuan inside the hovercar.
Completely unaware that after she turned around, Officer Di had gone momentarily blank and dizzy.
Officer Wu spoke sternly: “You two were fooling around and roughhousing on a public roadway, seriously affecting traffic order, so I’m issuing you a ticket!”
After saying that, Officer Wu copied down the license plate and handwrote a ticket, then aggressively handed it to the two inside the hovercar.
Of course, it was Gu Heng who took the ticket, a trace of indifference flashing in his eyes.
On the surface, he complained to Officer Wu like an ordinary citizen: “Officer Traffic Police, we didn’t even do anything. Why do we have to pay a fine? Have mercy, let us off just this once!”
Officer Wu frowned her little brows and firmly refused: “That’s definitely not allowed. Show me your IDs and hurry up and drive off. Don’t obstruct traffic. There are many people lining up behind you!”
Zuo Shihuan had already been released by Gu Heng. He glanced curiously at the ticket, puzzled about why Gu Heng had not allowed him to lift his head earlier.
But when Zuo Shihuan saw the female Alpha special police officer behind Officer Wu, whose presence was clearly different from ordinary police, and who was also armed, he immediately understood and tried his best to remain quiet and silent, letting Gu Heng handle the negotiation, not wanting to attract the attention of that obviously unusual female Alpha special police officer.
Gu Heng sighed and said, “Fine, if Officer Wu wants to issue a ticket, then issue it…”
Officer Wu put her hands on her hips and said, “Stop rambling. Show me your IDs quickly. There’s a big line of cars and people waiting behind you!”
Gu Heng pursed his lips and, somewhat dissatisfied, handed over the Federation ID.
When Zuo Shihuan was a little nervous and distracted, Gu Heng silently reminded him with a glance to hand over the fake ID to the traffic officer as well.
Zuo Shihuan paused, then took out the ID Gu Heng had given him earlier. “…Here, Officer Wu.”
Officer Wu roughly checked the ID information and muttered softly to herself, “Name Gu Lin, Beta, from Planet XXX…”
She suddenly remembered that among the people her superiors had ordered them to search for, one of them also seemed to have the surname Gu and was also a Beta.
But what kind of suspect would want to flee outward, yet instead head in the opposite direction toward the Federation’s central main city?
Even their superiors had instructed them to focus on checking people leaving, not those determined to enter.
The thought flashed through Officer Wu’s mind, but she did not sense anything unusual, thinking it was just a coincidence, another person with the same surname.
As for the other Alpha, nothing seemed problematic either.
Officer Wu then returned the ID to Gu Heng and said, “You’re the car owner, right? Remember to pay the fine. If you obstruct traffic order again, it won’t be just one or two tickets next time.”
Gu Heng took back the ID, his eyes cold, yet he smiled apologetically and said, “Of course, of course.”
When it was Zuo Shihuan’s turn to receive his ID, his palms were sweating. Under Officer Wu’s gaze, he still tried to maintain a gentle smile and said, “Thank you, Officer Wu.”
Officer Wu replied, “You’re welcome. Stay safe.”
After the car drove away.
Officer Wu finally let out a sigh of relief, having dealt with a very troublesome couple of Federation citizens, but fortunately nothing had happened.
However, when Officer Wu turned around, planning to call Officer Di to prepare for inspecting the next vehicle and person in line, she saw Officer Di inexplicably staring in the direction of the previous car, her lowered silver eyes focused and sharp.
Officer Wu asked curiously and puzzled, “Officer Di, what’s wrong?”
Officer Di found it hard to describe her strange intuition, as if she had caught a trace of prey’s scent. Yet after careful observation, it seemed like nothing at all, and faintly there was a sense of dangerous tremor.
Like encountering a large wild beast that a hunting dog could not handle.
It stirred unwillingness, yet she knew she was powerless.
Officer Di decided not to dwell on it. Instead, she truly focused her silver eyes on Officer Wu. Her heart stirred, tugging at muscles long stiff from not smiling.
Officer Di tried hard to show a gentle smile and smiled at the petite and rabbit-like Officer Wu. “I’m fine too.”
It was just unclear whether that stirring of the heart, was the instinctive excitement of a hunting dog encountering a rabbit, or something else…
Officer Wu shrugged. “Alright then. Officer Di, do you want to go with me for the next inspection?”
Officer Di immediately nodded. “Yes.”
After that, the loyal hunting dog obediently followed behind Officer Wu, letting herself be directed.
