Chapter 2: Pillow Talk

To the south of the base, facing the sea, the scenery bathed in a shimmering moonlight, the cold lines softened considerably under the caress of the sea breeze. This picturesque scenery is beyond anyone’s imagination compared to the gun smoke of just a few years ago.

The green plants by the window swayed gently as the floor lamp emitted a bright yellow light, casting a hazy atmosphere over everything.

Wen Mo’s hair roots were damp, his face flushed, as he knelt on the bed and gently wiped the man with a tissue. The satisfied man extended his hand to playfully stroke him, much like petting a cat, he appeared to be in a good mood.

Wen Mo asked softly, “Would you like to take a bath?”

The man lit a cigarette and casually tossed the lighter aside, saying, “Go ahead and fill the tub.”

Wen Mo grabbed a shirt and draped it over himself, then immediately got off the bed to fill the bathtub with water. His posture was a bit awkward, but he went about his preparations for the bath as if nothing was amiss. The bath light shone on his slightly lowered eyelashes, casting a gentle shadow on his rosy cheeks.

The hot water quietly engulfed the bottom of the bathtub as steam started to rise.

Glancing at the door, Wen Mo discreetly took out a small box from the pocket of his shirt and placed it in the cabinet on the washstand. Several bottles of the same packaged boxes were already arranged there. These were commonly used contraceptive pills for Omegas in the market.

He touched the box with his fingers and stared at it silently for a while.

Finally, he looked away and began to tidy himself up.

Just as he put on his new underwear, there was a tearing sound, and the sensor-activated door opened. The tall man entered the bathroom with a calm air, as if he were a different person from the slightly ruthless person on the bed just moments ago.

He stepped into the bathtub, arms outstretched, reclining comfortably. Wen Mo immediately approached, kneeling by the edge of the bathtub. His hands lightly rested on the man’s temples as he began to massage them.

The dim light cast a gauzy veil, enveloping the surroundings, making everything seem gentle and warm.

In this seemingly tender moment, Wen Mo softly began to speak, “I heard that…”.

He cautiously glanced at the man and continued, “The qualification application for Wen’s military supply has been rejected..”

The man kept his eyes closed, unmoving for a moment. Sensing the situation, Wen Mo hushed himself and slightly increased the pressure of his fingertips as he continued to massage, his gaze lowered as if his entire being was focused on the man.

After a while, the man slowly opened his eyes. His brown irises displayed no emotion, a result of years immersed in the battlefield, his demeanor imposing.

He looked at Wen Mo, his expression carrying a mocking cold smile.

Wen Mo wasn’t surprised, by now, he had learned to expect nothing more from this man. He understood that he was hardly someone who could speak in front of him.

Fortunately, over these three years, he had learned a bit about the man’s disposition. Pretending not to notice the underlying mockery, Wen Mo apologized softly, “I misspoke, please don’t be angry.”

He continued massaging, saying, “Our Wen family’s businesses have long since declined. We’re left guarding an empty shell of an enterprise. It’s not feasible to invest so much effort into it. But wanting to hold our heads up high, we applied for military supply qualification, just to have a share of the pie with the rest. Last time when my father came to visit me, I saw how his hair had turned white. It truly saddened me. It was just a momentary impulse…”

He changed the topic and continued, his hands slowly sliding up to his neck, hesitating almost imperceptibly before naturally embracing him around his neck, leaning on him with a sense of reliance. “I’m sorry, I won’t say nonsense anymore in the future. Please don’t hold it against me.”

Wen Mo had a fair complexion, now slightly flushed after the deed, giving him an almost innocent appearance. He looked like a ripe peach dipped in honey, an expression of eagerness that added an air of vulnerability. This pleasing demeanor tainted his appearance with a suggestion of being open for anyone to take. The man gazed at him for a while, then lifted his hand to play with Wen Mo’s lips.

Wen Mo inwardly breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that this matter had been somewhat cleared. With a certain determination, he reached out and climbed on the man’s shoulders, placing a kiss on him. Accompanying the kiss was a faint fragrance of white tea, mixed with the pheromones. These blended pheromones made the Alpha’s inherent aggression gradually subside, with it, a hint of almost affectionate emotion arose.

The deeply harmonious blending of pheromones gradually calmed the inherent aggressiveness within the Alpha’s nature. Along with it, a sentiment bordering on tenderness blossomed within his heart.

This is a side effect of Omega pheromones on an Alpha, causing their minds to heat up and prompting them to compromise without questioning principles.

Centuries ago, people romanticized this secondary effect as a natural bond between Alphas and Omegas (AO). However, nowadays, science has proven that it’s merely the influence of hormones on the human body. Just like the concept of “love” celebrated in literary works, it’s essentially an emotional deception brought about by the combined effects of hormones such as phenylethylamine, endorphins, dopamine, and others.

Science advanced humanity, but sometimes it can also be quite dull.

Though this man was generally mentally unyielding, he couldn’t avoid the interference of Omega pheromones. He disliked this excess after being appeased, a distraction that cloud over his mind. He bit onto Wen Mo’s gland, applying more pressure as a sort of punishment.

The Omega in his embrace trembled, yet still held onto him obediently, as though wanting to embed himself in the man’s arms.

With a towel wrapped around his lower body, Huo Yan walked out of the bathroom with a person in his arms.

He seemed to be in a good mood.

However, the person in his arms looked disheveled and fragile, with strands of hair sticking to his face. Huo Yan gently placed him on the bed, touched the slight frown between his brows, and bestowed a soothing kiss as a reward.

He stood up, tidied himself, fastened his cuffs, and without looking back, walked out of the room.

Ten minutes later, Huo Yan appeared in a brightly lit conference center where everyone stood up as one, their expressions solemn.

With the recent pacification of the war, the federal government had been taken over by the military, truly becoming a military government. By now, Huo Lao was in a semi-retired state. Anyone with discerning eyes could see that the 28-year-old young man before them would become the future leader of the Federation.

Today’s meeting was about dealing with a rather tricky issue.

Various sets of graphic data overlapped on the large holographic screen, each highlighting specific incidents.

“Above are the heinous incidents of attacks on federal citizens that have occurred in the past half year, totaling 21 cases.”

Zhang Qian briefly introduced the locations and key details of each attack.

“The common factor in each case is that the victims’ gonads were removed. In addition, except for the latest victim, all the bodies contained a neurotoxin called ‘tabun.’ This poison can quickly cause death through inhalation or skin contact. The cause of death for these victims is consistent: their gonads were removed, and then they were poisoned with the intent of murder.”

“Damn rebels!” A colonel in his forties clenched his teeth. He touched his own neck. The bloody images of victims with their necks mutilated made him extremely uncomfortable.

“Although the rebels haven’t all been captured yet, according to the intelligence received by the Information Center, there is currently no significant link to the rebels in these events.” Zhang Qian opened a set of statistical data, “All 21 victims are Alphas. There is no personal connection among the victims. Therefore, this behavior could also be a form of massacre by a certain extremist organization against the Alpha population of our Federation.”

“Could it be extremist O Rights Organization?”

No one could provide a definite answer.

Huo Yan had been staring at the screen for a long time. He picked up a laser pen and pointed at the latest discovered corpse. Zhang Qian enlarged the image, and the victim’s detailed information appeared on the screen.

[Zhao Mou, Alpha male, 31 years old, unmarried, former Federal Army Third Class Corporal, sent to military court ten years ago for illegally selling military supplies, later discharged and deported after having military status revoked, involved in crimes like provocation and robbery leading to multiple incarcerations in recent years.]

Huo Yan asked, “Why was this victim initially mistaken for an omega?”

Zhang Qian explained, “The victim had their gonads removed, and a high concentration of native omega pheromones was detected in their blood immediately by the forensic team. That’s why it influenced the Security Bureau’s assessment. The corrected information just came in—he differs from the other victims. He didn’t die from neurotoxin but drowned. Based on autopsy results and surveillance footage, this victim escaped from the crime scene after his gonads were removed, but due to the effects of anesthesia, he fell into Xi River and drowned.”

“Why was the owner of the omega pheromones not found?”

Zhang Qian hesitated for a moment before saying, “When we found this omega, she was already dead. She was a prostitute of the ‘Soft Village’ brothel. Her native omega pheromones were extracted from Zhao Mou. Their compatibility was extremely high, reaching 96.31%. Additionally, this omega had been treated for omega pheromone imbalance disorder multiple times in hospitals.”

The prostitutes at “Soft Village” catered to Alphas, injecting them with synthetic Omega pheromones that matched their preferences. Unlike Alphas and Betas, synthetic Omega pheromones interfered with the native ones, causing a disturbance in the Omega’s hormonal balance. This could result in Omega pheromone imbalance disorder when they had multiple sexual partners.

The Omega’s information was quickly retrieved, revealing a stunning face

Several officers quickly recognized her. She was the Madam* from “Soft Village,” a place not far from the base. Many officers had visited her. It wasn’t impossible that the matched pheromones found on her were compatible with many of them. While sleeping with the same Omega wouldn’t be an issue, the fact that she had been linked to a major incident and subsequently get killed made people sigh with regret.

Note: Madam refers to a person who run the brothel.

All current data had just been transferred to the military from the Security Bureau. Everything was mere speculation.

Huo Yan rubbed his temples and tossed the pen onto the table. “Send a confidential message to Chen Zhi and transfer the case jurisdiction to the military. Until the situation is clarified, coordinate with the head of the news center to maintain a unified response to the public.”

“Yes.”

The officers understood and agreed.

With the recent end of the war, it was essential to avoid unnecessary complications in such a sensitive period.

Huo Yan issued a few more instructions before the meeting was adjourned.

As the other attendees gradually left the conference center, Zhang Qian approached, “Commander, next Wednesday is Mr. Huo’s 80th birthday. There will be a family banquet at the ancestral home in the evening.”

“Sure, choose a good piece of Hetian jade. Bring it together when the time comes.”

“Understood.”

Huo Yan considered something, leaned back in his chair, and asked, “Has the approval for qualifications from the military supplies side been processed recently?”

“…Yes.”

After a moment’s contemplation, Huo Yan placed the documents on the table and instructed, “Prepare a license for the Wen family.”

Zhang Qian was momentarily surprised but then responded respectfully, “Understood.”

Seeing Huo Yan close his eyes to rest and no longer having any other orders, Zhang Qian immediately left the room.

The author has something to say:
