Chapter 207

This was the ability of the “Water Ghost”.
As soon as the heavy rain fell, all the rotting ghost birds froze at a speed visible to the naked eye, screaming as they fell from the sky one after another.
After everything settled, within a few hundred meters, all that remained were piles of frozen rotting ghost bird corpses, like mountains.
The snow candle had also burned to its end. As the candlelight extinguished, everyone felt the chilling cold coming from all directions. The weather after the rain was even colder, and a few people shivered as they put away their umbrellas. Looking around, they deeply understood what it meant for miles of ice to seal everything.
Rotting ghost birds piled up one by one, reaching a height taller than them.
“Oh my…” Lu Haoxiu’s face turned pale. He covered his stomach while looking shocked. “Brother Lou, you’re amazing.”
In just three short minutes, tens of thousands of rotting ghost birds were actually dealt with!
“Thanks to being in the North Pole,” Lou Yan took a deep breath of cold air, his brain clearer. He glanced at Fu Xuezhou’s back and then frowned at Lu Haoxiu’s old injury. “Lu Haoxiu, how’s your injury? Can you hold on?”
“I’m fine!” Lu Haoxiu gritted his teeth, “It’s probably just my old injury acting up. I’ll be fine after a while. Don’t worry about me, I’m tough!”
“Let’s head back first,” Li Sanxin said vigilantly. “We don’t know if the Anomaly Lord has any other tricks. Let’s leave here first and then discuss.”
After crawling out of the pile of rotting ghost bird corpses, they found a relatively open area without snowfall. Lou Yan lit a signal flare.
The helicopter arrived quickly. The pilot noticed the extra person but wisely didn’t ask anything. He flew the aircraft and took them back.
Back on the ship, without bothering to tidy themselves up, they first sent Fu Xuezhou to a clean room and carefully examined his condition.
There was a doctor specially assigned on the ship, but because Fu Xuezhou’s injuries were too unique and his identity too important, they didn’t let the doctor come to check Fu Xuezhou. Instead, they had the doctor help Lu Haoxiu rebandage his wound, and the task of examining Fu Xuezhou’s condition was entrusted to Li Sanxin and Duan Zege.
Li Sanxin still couldn’t feel Fu Xuezhou’s pulse and heartbeat. He was getting anxious but dared not show it. He could only pretend to be calm and start by cleaning Fu Xuezhou’s wounds. Duan Zege skillfully handed him various tools and also helped clean the wounds. It was only then that Li Sanxin realized that Duan Zege actually understood medical knowledge.
Not only did he understand, but his techniques also seemed more efficient and straightforward than Li Sanxin’s. To ease the tension, Li Sanxin tried to strike up a conversation, “Duan Zege, you’ve been hiding this skill!”
Duan Zege neatly stitched up the wound on Fu Xuezhou’s abdomen. After cutting off the thread with scissors, he said softly, “When you wander outside, you have to know some skills.”
“Your skills are good enough to be a doctor,” Li Sanxin exclaimed, both amazed and skeptical. “Are the requirements for drifters nowadays so high? Honestly, even if Yanzi hadn’t found you, you could have come to my pet hospital for a job. You’re perfect to be my assistant, handing me tools at just the right moment as if you know exactly what I’m thinking…”
“Is that so?” Duan Zege smiled. “Then we must have a natural understanding.”
Li Sanxin felt too cheesy to continue the conversation and kept his head down, continuing to treat Fu Xuezhou’s injuries.
Lou Yan stood by the bed as well, pacing back and forth several times. After glancing at the lifeless Fu Xuezhou, Lou Yan paused, then went to the side to pour a cup of hot water. He moistened a cotton swab with the hot water and gently moisturized Fu Xuezhou’s cracked and dry lips.
Once Fu Xuezhou’s lips were moistened, Lou Yan took a towel, dipped it in water, and gently wiped Fu Xuezhou’s face and hair.
The silver hair had lost its luster, and even with the wiping of warm water, it showed no signs of vitality. Fu Xuezhou remained motionless, his body still as cold as a corpse.
As he continued to wipe, Lou Yan’s veins began to bulge on the back of his hand, and suddenly, a blazing anger surged within him. Lou Yan abruptly threw the towel into the basin and strode to the window, staring at the icy world outside.
This anger came inexplicably, but it burned within Lou Yan, making him uncomfortably hot throughout his body, his eyes turning red. Lou Yan clenched his fists tightly, unsure why he felt angry, which only made him more irritable, and the more irritated he became, the angrier he felt, creating a vicious cycle.
The scenery outside did nothing to diminish his anger. Lou Yan listened to the sound of his teeth clashing and realized that he had started grinding his teeth fiercely, nearly shattering them.
He closed his eyes, trying to calm his emotions, but eventually opened them again in a restless state, staring at the gray sky above.
Lou Yan suddenly remembered the night he and Lu Haoxiu made wishes after seeing the shooting stars.
In his lifetime, Lou Yan had devoutly made three wishes: one was for his mother to come back, another was for his father not to die, and the last was for him to kill Fu Xuezhou.
Ironically, the first two wishes hadn’t come true, and the last one was close to being fulfilled, but now he didn’t want it to happen anymore.
Lou Yan chuckled self-deprecatingly, but there was little humor in it.
Life’s circumstances were indeed laughable.
“Lou Yan!!!”
Suddenly, Li Sanxin’s shocked voice called out to Lou Yan.
Lou Yan’s heart skipped a beat inexplicably, a sudden sense of nervousness overwhelming him. He turned to look at Li Sanxin, whose expression was a mix of surprise and joy.
Li Sanxin shouted, “Fu Xuezhou’s injuries are healing on their own!!!”
With a thud, something seemed to explode in Lou Yan’s mind. His breath seemed to stop for a moment, then he quickly strode to the bedside, staring closely at Fu Xuezhou’s wounds.
He saw the frostbite slowly lightening at a sluggish pace, and the edges of Fu Xuezhou’s torn wounds gradually growing fresh flesh.
The wounds were healing… Fu Xuezhou… was alive?
“Fu Xuezhou is alive! Fu Xuezhou must be alive!” Li Sanxin affirmed excitedly, ecstatic. “D*mn it! He didn’t die! I thought he was dead for sure! Fu Xuezhou still doesn’t have a heartbeat or breathing, but he didn’t die! How did he manage this! This is unbelievable!”
Duan Zege also breathed a sigh of relief, his hands trembling slightly as he said, “Fu Xuezhou is no ordinary person… Thankfully, he made it through. Since he’s starting to heal on his own, it means he won’t die. We don’t need to continue cleaning his wounds for him. Let him heal himself.”
Li Sanxin marveled, “His vitality is too strong. Even frozen like that in such an environment, he didn’t die! I seriously doubt there’s anything left in this world that can kill him.”
Duan Zege smiled faintly, then turned to Lou Yan, who was staring silently at Fu Xuezhou without speaking. He directly pulled Li Sanxin out of the room, leaving Lou Yan alone to accompany Fu Xuezhou.
Only after hearing the sound of the door closing did Lou Yan snap out of his daze. He silently sat down by the bed, looking down at Fu Xuezhou’s left hand.
The severed index finger on his left hand was slowly growing new flesh, a slow process that was hardly noticeable unless one looked carefully. Lou Yan quietly watched as the finger slowly grew out joints, then nails, finally becoming a perfect, unblemished finger.
Lou Yan reached out and touched the finger. It hadn’t broken off; it remained intact on Fu Xuezhou’s hand.
It was only at this moment that Lou Yan truly felt the reality of “Fu Xuezhou didn’t die”.
He suddenly felt drained, exhausted, and weary, slumping into the chair. Lou Yan rubbed his temples tiredly, then gently closed his eyes.
He fell asleep just like that.
The drowsiness came suddenly and swiftly, completely engulfing Lou Yan. However, he slept restlessly, occasionally waking up to open his eyes and look around, but after finding nothing amiss, he didn’t bother to move and closed his eyes again, quickly falling back asleep.
Lou Yan slept intermittently for several hours, suddenly awakened by Li Sanxin’s tap. He sat up abruptly, wide awake, and looked at Li Sanxin.
Li Sanxin had changed his clothes, his hair still damp with moisture, his voice gentle as he said, “I’ll watch over him. Yanzi, you go rest.”
Lou Yan hesitated for a moment, then hoarsely asked, “What time is it?”
Li Sanxin replied, “It’s three in the morning, still early.”
Indeed, it was early. Lou Yan rubbed his temples and glanced at the bed. Fu Xuezhou’s severed arm had already grown back considerably, and the torn wound was now only the size of a baby’s fist.
Li Sanxin urged, “Go take a bath, eat something, and get some sleep.”
Lou Yan didn’t refuse. He stood up with the help of the bed, and as he inadvertently touched Fu Xuezhou’s hand, he found that Fu Xuezhou’s hand subconsciously gripped his.
Lou Yan stiffened for a moment, then immediately turned to look at Fu Xuezhou. Fu Xuezhou’s eyes were tightly closed, but his lips moved slightly, as if murmuring, “Lou Yan…”
Fu Xuezhou wasn’t awake; he was sleep-talking. However, he held Lou Yan’s hand so tightly that Lou Yan’s skin had turned purple, bearing the marks of his grip.
Li Sanxin gasped and hurried forward, wanting to pry Fu Xuezhou’s fingers open. But Fu Xuezhou’s grip was particularly strong, even stronger than when he had held onto the strap of that backpack when frozen. Li Sanxin almost broke Fu Xuezhou’s fingers for the second time, but still couldn’t pry them loose.
Lou Yan pursed his lips and tried to withdraw his hand from Fu Xuezhou’s, but also failed. After two more attempts, Lou Yan simply sat back down and said, “You go to sleep. I’ll keep watching over him.”
Li Sanxin frowned, squatting down and whispering in Fu Xuezhou’s ear, “Fu Xuezhou, you’re squeezing Lou Yan’s hand so hard you’re going to break it. Please let go.”
Having said this, he didn’t know if Fu Xuezhou heard it or not, but Fu Xuezhou’s grip only tightened, as if exerting all his strength to hold onto Lou Yan.
Lou Yan’s hand instantly turned blue and purple, looking frightening. Li Sanxin suddenly felt sorry for him and said, “F*ck,” in a tone devoid of kindness. “Fu Xuezhou, let go quickly. Lou Yan’s hand is hurting, it’s about to swell!”
“In fact…” I’m actually okay.
Lou Yan hadn’t finished his sentence when he noticed Fu Xuezhou releasing his hand stiffly, dropping it onto the bed in the end.
He actually let go, even without fully regaining consciousness.
Li Sanxin was dumbfounded, not knowing what to say. “This… this…”
Lou Yan held his hand, his expression momentarily becoming extremely complex. He suddenly stood up and said, “I’m leaving first.”
The chair fell over with his movement, but Lou Yan seemed not to notice as he hurriedly left the room like a gust of wind.
Duan Zege leaned against the door and witnessed the whole process. He turned his head to look at Lou Yan’s departing figure, then glanced back at Fu Xuezhou on the bed and suddenly chuckled, murmuring to himself, “The moon in the abyss… Lou Yan, you’ve misunderstood. You’ve already become his moon without doing anything.”
