Chapter 226

There were a few more semi-anomalies in need of assistance than imagined.
Little Yu, led by Zhou Wuxin, absorbed unknown amounts of anomaly power from people’s bodies. However, the capacity of a “vessel” to withstand anomaly power is limited. In order to save more people, Zhou Wuxin instructed Little Yu, “You don’t need to absorb all the excess anomaly power from a person’s body. Just absorb one-third to prevent the person from undergoing Anomaly Resurgence in the short term. Only then can we save more people. Do you know how much one-third is? Have you ever eaten a three-color ice cream? It’s the size of one of the colored blocks.”
Little Yu nodded thoughtfully.
One by one, the semi-anomalies she saved regained their sanity on the battlefield. However, at the same time, Little Yu’s face became paler and paler. The anomaly power within her body caused intense pain, with her stomach churning, limbs twitching occasionally, and she even lost the strength to lift her hand.
Such feelings were too uncomfortable. However, Little Yu had undergone even more painful training when she was captured by the cultists, so she felt she could still persevere.
Zhou Wuxin looked at Little Yu’s distressed expression, hesitated for a moment, and then asked, “Can you still hold on? There are two more semi-anomalies that need to be saved.”
Little Yu was already nearing her limit. She hesitated, looking at Zhou Wuxin as if asking, “Who else?”
“Those two semi-anomalies are people you know. One is called Li Sanxin, and the other is Duan Zege.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Zhou Wuxin saw Little Yu blink in confusion, then nod firmly at him. The child seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, her eyes filled with urgency and impatience.
Zhou Wuxin seemed to understand something and exclaimed, “Your hesitation just now was because you wanted to use your last strength to save them, wasn’t it?”
Little Yu nodded honestly.
Zhou Wuxin was speechless. He pushed his glasses and said bluntly, “But if you save them, you will die.”
Little Yu nodded slowly again.
“Are you still willing?” Zhou Wuxin couldn’t help asking, “If they weren’t semi-anomalies you knew, would you still be willing?”
Just as Little Yu was about to answer, Duan Zege suddenly appeared, coldly snatched Little Yu from Zhou Wuxin’s arms, and said, “That’s enough, Zhou Wuxin. Little Yu will no longer treat other semi-anomalies. She will live.”
Uncle Duan Zege!
Little Yu smiled happily at Duan Zege and tried hard to communicate using sign language, but she had no strength in her hands, feeling like crying out of frustration.
Duan Zege looked at Zhou Wuxin with a stern expression, which softened when he looked at Little Yu. He patted Little Yu’s back gently and said, “It’s okay, Little Yu. You can use lip reading. I can understand lip reading.”
Little Yu silently mouthed, “I’m fine. I want to save you guys. Uncle, why didn’t you tell Little Yu that you’re also a semi-anomaly?”
Duan Zege’s eyes were a bit moist. He smiled and tried to conceal it, “I was planning to tell you later. Don’t worry, you don’t need to save us. Both Sanxin and I are fine.”
“Are you really okay?” Zhou Wuxin walked over calmly and asked, “You may not see any problems, but that guy Li Sanxin might.”
Duan Zege tightened his grip on Little Yu’s arm.
“I… I’m fine.”
Li Sanxin’s weak voice came from behind everyone. They turned to see Li Sanxin, covered in blood, staggering towards them.
Li Sanxin held his stomach, which was swollen as if pregnant for seven months. Thin veins bulged on his skin like spider webs, and he was sweating profusely with a pained expression. There was a faint red light in the depths of his pupils.
Anyone could tell he was on the brink of death.
But when Little Yu looked over, Li Sanxin made a great effort to hide his discomfort and showed a pale but cheerful smile.
Duan Zege was startled and quickly ran over to grab Li Sanxin, while Little Yu’s mouth widened in astonishment, her crying so intense she could hardly catch her breath.
She couldn’t speak, only tears streamed down her face silently, soaking her collar with wet marks. Her cheeks turned red from crying, evoking a mix of heartache and bitterness.
Li Sanxin, flustered, hurriedly wiped away Little Yu’s tears and said with a bitter smile, “Little Yu, don’t cry, I’m really okay.”
Little Yu tried to speak, but only made dry, hoarse sounds of “ah ah,” her tears becoming more torrential and her throat increasingly sore. With a sudden cough, she choked out, her voice strained and difficult to hear, “Hug… hug…”
Li Sanxin was taken aback, then pleasantly surprised, and quickly opened his arms to embrace Little Yu, “Little Yu, you can talk!”
Duan Zege, worried that Little Yu might crush Li Sanxin, also half-held Little Yu, allowing half of Little Yu’s weight to rest on his arm. He couldn’t help but smile and said, “Little Yu, stop crying. You’ve just started speaking, and your throat is still tender. Let me take you back to the bureau and find a safe place for you, okay?”
Little Yu shook her head while crying, one hand holding Li Sanxin’s neck, the other holding Duan Zege’s neck, holding both of them tightly, like a family of three.
Seeing this, Zhou Wuxin wanted to urge them, but just as he was about to speak, he was warned by Duan Zege’s gaze.
After all, the battlefield was dangerous. Duan Zege planned to send Little Yu back to the Anomaly Control Bureau and then figure out a way to deal with the Anomaly Resurgence in Li Sanxin’s body. He and Li Sanxin exchanged a glance over Little Yu’s head. Duan Zege was about to speak when he suddenly felt a change in his body, and his face changed drastically.
Meanwhile, the protruding blue veins on Li Sanxin’s skin gradually faded away, and the faint red light in his eyes returned to calmness. Li Sanxin felt the unsettling power boiling within his body slowly calming down, and the murderous and restless impulses were subdued by calmness. For a moment, his mind was clear, and his spirit was lucid.
Li Sanxin immersed himself in this comfortable calmness for two seconds, then suddenly, as if realizing something terrifying, his face showed a panicked expression, and he subconsciously touched his own stomach.
The swollen belly of the ghost fetus had already flattened.
Little Yu…?
Little Yu!
“Little Yu!!!”
Li Sanxin thought he had called out, but then he realized it was Duan Zege who had shouted.
He turned his head slowly towards Duan Zege and Little Yu, everything seemed like a slow-motion scene. Li Sanxin watched as Duan Zege’s panicked expression, even the veins on his neck and back of his hands, turned blue. Following Duan Zege’s gaze, he saw the blood beginning to ooze from cracks in Little Yu’s skin while she was in their arms.
Little Yu seemed like a fragile porcelain, with blood and flesh flowing from the cracks in her skin. After seeing Little Yu’s current state, a thunderous roar echoed in Li Sanxin’s mind, rendering him deaf.
He tried to make a sound, but his throat trembled, and he couldn’t speak. He could only watch as Duan Zege shouted loudly and tried to cover the blood on Little Yu’s body with trembling hands, even watching as Zhou Wuxin killed an anomaly trying to approach and attack them.
Zhou Wuxin turned to them and roared angrily, “Pull yourselves together! She won’t make it, but there are still people who can survive!!!”
Little Yu struggled to pat Duan Zege’s hands, trying to get out of his embrace. Duan Zege tremblingly let go, tears streaming down his face as he watched Little Yu stagger weakly towards Zhou Wuxin.
Thud.
Li Sanxin’s legs gave way, and he knelt heavily on the ground.
Zhou Wuxin hadn’t expected Little Yu to come to him in the final moments of her life. He pursed his lips, pushed up his glasses to hide the complex emotions in his eyes, and walked a few steps to crouch in front of Little Yu, asking calmly, “Child, do you have something to say to me?”
Little Yu reached out and touched Zhou Wuxin’s hand, fresh red blood staining Zhou Wuxin’s hand and clothes. Little Yu smiled weakly at Zhou Wuxin, her eyes still bright and lovely. She hoarsely, unaccustomedly uttered, “There’s still you.”
Zhou Wuxin was taken aback for a moment. The next second, he felt the anomalous power churning within him rush towards Little Yu’s body from their contact point.
The man, who looked scholarly and rational, widened his eyes.
“Little Yu—!”
In her final moments, Little Yu looked up and saw Lu Haoxiu desperately running towards them from behind Zhou Wuxin.
Big Brother Deer…
Little Yu murmured the word “brother” subconsciously and showed a joyful smile towards Lu Haoxiu.
Big Brother Deer.
I can finally speak.
Can you hear me?
A long, long time ago, when they still lived in Li Sanxin’s house, Lu Haoxiu became Little Yu’s playmate after Little Yu was brought back.
These two, one truly naive, and the other equally naive, played together harmoniously and happily. Since Lu Haoxiu found out that Little Yu couldn’t speak after a car accident and a high fever at home, he had been trying hard to guide Little Yu in speaking and literacy.
It was one afternoon, the sunlight streaming in through the window, the temperature inside the room was just right, and the white curtains fluttered lightly.
Little Yu and Lu Haoxiu sat surrounded by toys, and Lu Haoxiu was teaching Little Yu to recognize their names.
“Lu, Hao, Xiu, Little Yu, watch my mouth, brother’s name is Lu, Hao, Xiu.”
Little Yu tilted her head in confusion and pointed to the deer plush toy next to her: Is it this deer?
Lu Haoxiu looked at the cute and silly giraffe, not knowing what struck his funny bone, laughing “haha” while nodding vigorously in front of Little Yu, picking up the deer plush toy and nodding crazily in front of Little Yu, imitating the animal’s voice with a hoarse voice, “That’s right, that’s right, from now on, I’m Big Brother Deer! Not the road on the street, but the deer hahaha… Deer Haoxiu, Deer Haoxiu… hilarious, this name is so funny hahaha…”
Thinking of this, Little Yu felt happy. At the very end, she reluctantly glanced at the black fountain pen watch that was already smeared with blood on her wrist and closed her eyes.
With a loud bang, Little Yu exploded suddenly. Zhou Wuxin subconsciously reached out to hug Little Yu, but only held the broken flesh and blood of the girl.
His glasses were smeared, and Zhou Wuxin stood frozen in place.
“Ahhhh!!!”
Lu Haoxiu’s eyes were red with tears, his eye sockets burning. “Little Yu—!”
He reached out desperately, using all his strength, but he couldn’t hold onto his sister, who he treated as family, anymore.
