Chapter 142: Unexpected Encounter
<Previous Chapter<Table of Contents>Next Chapter>
After the earthquake, An Bu and Jian Ningxuan went to the front line to participate in rescue operations along with other volunteers.
The two of them set up a reserve warehouse in the disaster area, with one responsible for counting scarce supplies and the other for purchasing and distributing them wherever needed. Later, many donated supplies were sent here, recorded by them, and then distributed to various areas.
In just one month, the two of them spent nearly ten million yuan, doing everything they could to help the disaster-stricken people. Other volunteers were the same, regardless of nationality or gender, contributing their modest efforts for the same goal.
A month later, An Bu and Jian Ningxuan left Longteng City, not voluntarily, but because they were invited for tea by a certain big shot.
Although Jian Ningxuan’s hacking skills were top-notch, they weren’t enough in the eyes of the country. Combined with the intervention of Jian’s father, it was basically impossible to conceal the matter of the prediction post.
An Bu was quite calm. Before deciding to predict the earthquake, she had already prepared herself to be targeted by the relevant authorities.
“Don’t worry,” Jian Ningxuan reassured her, squeezing her hand gently.
“Okay.” An old corpse like her had seen everything. She wasn’t afraid.
An Bu and Jian father and son were led into a spacious reception room, where a venerable old figure lounged comfortably on the sofa, looking kindly at them.
Apart from a few guards, the entire room was occupied only by this big shot. From the looks of it, it was clearly a setup for a private chat.
The three of them respectfully greeted the big shot, who waved his hand and said, “No need to be nervous, sit down, let’s have a casual chat.”
Casual chat was fine, but the issue was that the subject of their chat was far from “casual.”
Jian father and son sat upright, while An Bu tried to maintain a dignified demeanor.
The big shot was amiable, indeed, he said it was a casual chat, and it really was. The earthquake matter was only mentioned in passing, the gist of which was that if there were any future predictions, they should give a heads-up, and let the authorities handle it. Surprisingly, he didn’t even mention how she could accurately predict earthquakes.
Until the conversation ended, Jian father and son were dumbfounded, completely unexpected that the big shot would gloss over it like that. Although the earthquake prediction saved many lives, it was still not in accordance with the rules, and it was inevitable that some people would imitate it in the future, causing social panic. Even if the big shot didn’t criticize, a slight admonition was necessary, but he actually brushed over it without asking for reasons.
Just as they were preparing to leave, the big shot suddenly said, “Miss An, please stay for a moment. I’d like to have a private chat with you.”
Jian Ningxuan furrowed his brows slightly, looking worriedly at An Bu.
“Don’t worry,” the big shot smiled, “I won’t make things difficult for your lover.”
Jian Ningxuan’s expression didn’t relax at all, he bowed respectfully to him and slowly walked out of the meeting room.
An Bu watched them leave and then looked at the elderly figure in front of her, wondering why he wanted to keep her.
Little did she know that he only said three words, just three words, which made her have to reevaluate the old man in front of her.
“You Zimo.”
You Zimo? You Zimo???
That seemed to be her alias fifty years ago. She couldn’t remember her specific identity, just that she had seen it when sorting through her identity files.
“You Zimo was my university classmate. I don’t know if you know her?” The old man looked at her kindly, his eyes flashing with a meaningful light.
An Bu: What?! One of her university classmates turned out to be a future big shot?
Back then, it seemed she did know quite a few second-generation officials, but most of them were no longer around. No, not necessarily all gone. The person in front of her was still alive and kicking, in his seventies, but still as lively as a man in his fifties or sixties.
If those classmates were still alive, with their abilities and family backgrounds, after decades of maneuvering in the officialdom, wouldn’t many of them have become big shots?
Thinking of this possibility, An Bu was unusually stunned. The current situation seemed a bit surreal.
However, she quickly regained her composure. What did this have to do with her current identity? The big shots might not even recognize her as the former You Zimo, at most they would think she looked similar.
“My memory is very good,” the big shot poured her a cup of tea himself, “especially for people I once admired.”
An Bu: !!! Is it appropriate for such a big shot to say such things?!
“Try it, my tea-making skills are still taught by Sister You Zimo herself.” The big shot smiled as he picked up a cup of tea and leisurely sipped it.
An Bu: !!! What did she do back then?!
Feeling that she couldn’t continue to be led by him, An Bu picked up the teacup, took a sip, and commented, “It’s a bit rough.”
“Can’t help it, I’m usually too busy. Tea-making is delegated to subordinates, so my skills naturally become rusty.”
An Bu glanced at his white hair and remained silent.
The big shot collected his thoughts and turned to An Bu with a serious expression. “I kept you here just to ask you one thing.”
An Bu’s spirits lifted. Finally, they were getting to the point. Was he going to ask about the earthquake or her identity?
“Would you like to acknowledge me as your godfather?”
Hmm? What? Godfather?? Is that what you wanted to ask???
An Bu stared at him and firmly uttered a word: “No.”
“Hahaha.” The big shot had an expression of not being surprised, “What a pity.”
An Bu: What a pity my foot! Would you dare to pay attention to your current identity? Is godfather something you just acknowledge casually? Are you trying to take advantage of her?!
“Forget it.” The big shot waved his hand, “I’ve confirmed what I needed to confirm. You can go back now, so your lover won’t wait too long and barge in to snatch you away.”
An Bu put down the teacup and stood up. “Then I’ll take my leave.” After a pause, she added, “Thank you for the tea.”
The big shot chuckled a few times.
An Bu turned towards the door and walked away. Just as she was about to reach the door, she heard a faint murmur from behind, seeming to be a mix of complaint and jest, “Didn’t we agree to be lifelong bachelors?”
An Bu: “…”
Exiting the meeting room, Jian Ningxuan immediately approached her, his gaze scanning her as if worried she had lost some weight.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” An Bu smiled, “the senior official was very kind, even said he wanted to adopt me as his goddaughter.”
Jian Ningxuan: “!”
Jian’s father: “!!”
“Haha, just kidding, you guys actually believed it.” An Bu took Jian Ningxuan’s arm, “Let’s go, let’s go home.”
From today on, even the old corpse had someone supporting them from above.
The incident with the prediction post passed smoothly without any surprises.
Jian’s father still had matters to attend to and didn’t leave with Jian Ningxuan. When they parted ways, Jian Ningxuan sincerely thanked him. Jian’s father took considerable risks in this matter. Although he was distant usually, he provided unconditional support at critical moments, which deeply touched Jian Ningxuan.
Jian’s father didn’t say anything, just nodded and left.
Watching his retreating figure, An Bu spoke up, “Mr. Jian, your father’s heart isn’t good. Remember to remind him to go to the hospital for a check-up.”
Last time they met, she saw signs of illness in Jian’s father’s heart area. If left unchecked, he could likely die from heart disease in the future.
Jian Ningxuan’s expression darkened slightly, and he made a mental note of this.
The two didn’t linger in the capital for too long, directly taking a plane back to Phoenix City.
After washing up at night, they leaned against the headboard and watched TV.
Jian Ningxuan resisted for a while, but eventually couldn’t hold back his curiosity and asked about An Bu’s conversation with the big shot.
“Do you really want to know?” An Bu glanced at him.
Jian Ningxuan nodded.
“I’ll tell you tomorrow.” She needed to check her diary first.
Jian Ningxuan: “…”
Why wait until tomorrow? I won’t be able to sleep well tonight!
Sensing his slight dissatisfaction, An Bu rolled over and sat on his lap, hooking her arms around his neck. “Mr. Jian, the night is long. Are you sure you want to waste time on stories that I have to tell about the big shot?”
Jian Ningxuan’s eyes darkened, and he said in a low voice, “Mrs. Jian, do you have a better suggestion?”
“Umm… how about trying the double scissor and chisel mountain styles?”
Jian Ningxuan: “….”
An Bu picked up her phone, tapped and scrolled until she found that extraordinary manual, and studied it with the cat master.
Once they thoroughly understood it, they immediately began to put it into practice…
A few rays of morning light streamed through the window, shining on the spacious bed. Jian Ningxuan slowly opened his eyes and turned his head to see An Bu lying next to him, seemingly still asleep, but he knew she didn’t need to sleep.
Glancing at the time, it was already past 9 o’clock, which surprised Jian Ningxuan. This seemed to be the first time An Bu had been lying in bed for so long. She had mentioned before that if you maintained a certain position for a long time, your body would stiffen.
“Bu Bu,” Jian Ningxuan called out softly.
“Mmm…” An Bu nuzzled the soft pillow, lazily not wanting to open her eyes.
Jian Ningxuan’s eyes flashed with surprise, reaching out to pinch the back of her neck, tentatively asking, “Bu Bu, are you asleep?”
An Bu leaned against his chest, unconsciously hugging his waist, her cheek pressed against his chest.
Feeling the warmth of her skin against his and seeing her rosy cheeks, Jian Ningxuan couldn’t help but feel that she seemed a bit different.
“Good morning, Mr. Jian,” An Bu rubbed her eyes, tilting her head to him with an extremely satisfied smile.
“It’s past 9 o’clock, are you getting up?” Jian Ningxuan reached out to touch her head.
“Already so late?” An Bu turned to look out the window, then sat up, stretching in a beautiful lazy posture. “Ah, I slept so comfortably.”
The cool morning breeze gently lifted the purple curtains, the fiery red roses swayed in the wind, the velvet bedding was soft and warm, and everything in front of her was so beautiful, making her feel completely happy.
“Mr. Jian,” An Bu hugged Jian Ningxuan, giving him a big kiss on the cheek, “you’re amazing!”
Jian Ningxuan: “…”
Stepping barefoot out of bed, An Bu excitedly said, “Today I’m going to make twelve desserts to celebrate completing a six-hour-long life harmony with Mr. Jian.”
Jian Ningxuan: “…”
An Bu kissed the roses in the vase again, then happily rushed into the bathroom.
Jian Ningxuan raised the corners of his lips slightly, clearly feeling her happiness. Although he didn’t know why she was happy, seeing her like this, he couldn’t help but feel genuinely pleased from the bottom of his heart.
“Mr. Jian,” An Bu poked her head out of the bathroom, “I’m going to take a shower, are you coming?”
Jian Ningxuan got out of bed gracefully and walked towards her.
