“You liked it, didn’t you? I noticed, otherwise why would you scream like that?” Yuwen Chu grabbed Mingzhu’s hair and twirled it around his fingers, his voice filled with amusement. “There’s nothing embarrassing about it. You’re my wife, I’m your husband, it’s the most natural thing in the world. Otherwise, how do you think babies are born? It’s not like you just kiss and hug and they magically appear, right?”
“Stop it!” Mingzhu was infuriated, feeling like the covers were suffocating her. She pulled the covers away and sat up. “I want to sleep, there’s so much to do tomorrow.”
“You’re really killing the mood.” Yuwen Chu laughed as he looked at her, seeing her disheveled hair, flushed face, and watery eyes. Instead of being angry, she seemed more embarrassed and angry. He couldn’t help but laugh out loud, deliberately teasing her, “The night is long, let’s have another round?”
“What?” Mingzhu realized it wasn’t what she thought and immediately rolled away, wrapping herself tighter in the covers. “I’m still sick, and you want to exhaust me.”
“Then tell me, do you like it or not?” Yuwen Chu grabbed her covers and pretended to pull them down, coaxing her softly. “If you tell me nicely, I’ll let you off.”
Mingzhu bit her lip, shaking her head vigorously, her face turning red as she desperately pulled the covers. Just as she exerted force, Yuwen Chu suddenly let go, catching her off guard. She fell back onto the bed. “Wangfei has such strength,” Yuwen Chu pounced on her, blowing air into her ear, his laughter wicked and annoying. “Do you like it or not?”
“Whatever!” Mingzhu gave up, her face burning red, closing her eyes and shouting out, not caring anymore. Then she held her breath, waiting for his retaliation. Even if she died, she wouldn’t tell him such shameless words. Mighty cannot be humbled, wealth cannot be corrupted. She had to stand firm to prevent him from getting too complacent. She didn’t want to like someone again, only to be ruthlessly trampled into the ground.
“Aw, you’re really shy, aren’t you? But I know you like it.” Yuwen Chu smiled as he got up, his steps light as he walked through the heavy curtains towards the bathing room. Before long, the sound of running water could be heard.
Mingzhu hugged her knees, curled up in the blankets. She was about to call someone to attend to her washing, but then she heard familiar footsteps approaching. Looking up, she saw Yuwen Chu still casually wearing that loose inner robe, slowly making his way towards her. When he reached the bed, he stretched out his arm towards her and said in a deep voice, “The water temperature is just right. Shall I help the lady bathe?”
Who does he think he is? Shameless, just taking advantage of her and then pushing her into it. Mingzhu arrogantly turned away from him, thinking that she would only give him face if he said something nice again. But before she could settle, she was suddenly lifted into the air. Yuwen Chu wrapped her in the folds of his robe, laughing heartily as he carried her away.
“You’re too naughty!” Mingzhu was both angry and amused, playfully hitting him a few times. She was too tired to move, so she just nestled in his arms and decided to enjoy it. After all the trouble he caused her, it was time for him to take care of her too.
After bathing and returning to the room, the bedding had already been changed. Mingzhu rolled over comfortably and snuggled into the bed, saying, “I want to sleep, I’m so tired.”
Yuwen Chu laid down, still feeling the chill of the water on his body. He placed his hand across her pillow, absentmindedly stroking her hair, sighing heavily.
Mingzhu yawned and struggled to keep her eyelids from closing. “Is something on your mind, Your Highness?” She was so diligent, even in her exhaustion, she still cared enough to ask him about his worries.
“Today, I heard from Fourth Brother-in-law that he was attacked last night…”
Mingzhu’s eyes widened in shock. “He was attacked? Why didn’t he tell me? What happened?” Although she knew Fourth Brother was fine, she couldn’t help but feel frightened. After all, in her previous life, Fourth Brother’s death was so tragic and terrifying. She didn’t know if, during this period, Fu Mingzheng had encountered any danger. At that time, their relationship was so bad that they hardly ever spoke to each other.
“With all these questions in a row, which one should I answer first?” Yuwen Chu’s eyes gleamed as he smiled, pulling her into his arms and saying softly, “He didn’t tell you because he still sees you as a woman. He didn’t want to burden you with these horrifying and bloody matters.”
“That’s just like Fourth Brother, with his foul mouth but thoughtful mind.” Mingzhu was thoughtful for a moment, then heard Yuwen Chu continue, “He thinks telling you wouldn’t make a difference. You wouldn’t be able to help, and you might even cause trouble.”
Mingzhu felt uncomfortable hearing this. “How did I cause him trouble? Even if I couldn’t do anything before, I really didn’t cause him any trouble. No, I have to ask him tomorrow and make it clear. He promised to tell me if there was something, not to hide it from me!”
Yuwen Chu hugged her back. “Why are you so anxious? It’s normal for him to think that way. Not everyone has my confidence in you and is willing to take you around to see the excitement.”
That’s true. Mingzhu said sincerely, “I was very happy when Your Highness took me to capture those people and destroy their hideouts.” Such things, in the hands of her Father and brothers, would never have allowed her to take such risks, let alone take her with them.
Yuwen Chu ran his fingers through her hair and said slowly, “As for Fourth Brother-in-law’s incident, he didn’t tell you, so I’ll tell you…”
Mingzhu listened intently. It turned out that this time, Fourth Brother had provoked someone he shouldn’t have while investigating the assassination attempt on her. And this person, Fourth Brother had told her before, was most likely Zhongshan Wang. In other words, Zhongshan Wang might be the mastermind behind it all. So, did the tragic death of Fourth Brother in her previous life, and even the complete collapse of the family, have something to do with Zhongshan Wang?
Yuwen Chu recounted the incident, expressing his fear. “Thanks to his precise and domineering sleeve arrow, he was able to escape unharmed. I wonder who he provoked, for them to act so recklessly. I have a feeling that if things continue like this, I might encounter the same danger as him.” He paused, looking at Mingzhu solemnly, “When that happens, don’t be afraid, and don’t be too sad. Just take care of Royal Mother and Funing for me.”
