“Ha ha, what a coincidence, I was just about to look for you, and you came to find me.” Qi Yue gave two dry laughs. Seeing no response, he closed his mouth.
The atmosphere was a bit tense. Yan Bin reacted quickly and said to the ability users who had escaped with them, “Rest a bit, once we confirm the direction, we’ll continue.”
Too angry, Tang Ke began speaking without restraint. Tang Ke pointed a finger at Qi Yue, his tone dripping with endless mockery. “Good for you, while we were all worrying about you, you’re here fooling around and enjoying yourself.”
Looking at Tang Ke’s furious expression, Qi Yue wanted to explain, but he felt guilty, tongue-tied, blinking his eyes over and over. Lowering his head, his hands trembled nervously, making him look innocent and pitiful.
Tang Ke’s lungs were about to explode from anger, furious like someone who had caught their wife cheating. Good, this little brat even has the face to pretend to be innocent.
Qi Yue secretly tilted his head, peeking at the few people, annoyed and ashamed. What should he do? They wouldn’t start fighting, right? How embarrassing.
Seeing Qi Yue’s bullied appearance, Han Fei walked over with a satisfied feeling after punishing him, grabbed Qi Yue’s hand, wrapped the crystal core into Qi Yue’s palm, and closed their hands together.
“We are exactly what you think we are.” Han Fei was somewhat displeased with this pretty-boy. “You scared Qi Yue.”
Qi Yue’s hesitant appearance made him anxious. He couldn’t wait to hear what would come out of Qi Yue’s mouth. He just wanted them to misunderstand. Those two pretty-boys had no right to compete with him for Qi Yue.
Tang Ke yanked the pretending-to-be-deaf Qi Yue over and dragged him aside.
Han Fei clenched his fists in anger and wanted to chase after them, but Yan Bin grabbed his arm.
Yan Bin shook his head at Han Fei. “If everyone’s rested, let’s go.”
Putting the crystal core Han Fei had slipped into his hand into his pocket, Qi Yue cautiously lifted his head, sneaking a glance at Lin Yuze. Their eyes met exactly as Lin Yuze looked over, making Qi Yue’s heart pound faster and faster. Tang Ke was gripping his wrist very tightly, squeezing painfully, but he didn’t dare speak.
The further they walked, the stronger the wind in the passage became. They were nearing the cave entrance and could even see the faint starlight ahead.
“Roar”
A zombie’s low growl came through, unusually clear, just a wall away from Qi Yue and the others.
“What’s that?”
“A monster.”
Someone started shouting loudly; someone’s legs went weak. Everyone panicked. This was already the third person dragged away by the monster. Unknown fear swept over them, and someone even ran around chaotically in terror.
“Ahhh”
The terrified scream of the person who ran echoed, then abruptly stopped.
Liao Feifan led people out quietly when the two zombies were fighting, but they soon became lost inside, turning left and right like headless flies.
“Ah oh”
Another teammate screamed. This time they saw it clearly, it was something like a long ribbon dragging him away.
The situation was very bad. Liao Feifan held up a flashlight and nervously searched around. Unable to keep his composure, he yelled at the people beside him, “Shut up.”
Darkness all around. Drip drip, the sound of water.
Liao Feifan carefully searched for the source of the water with the flashlight. If there was water, it meant this place connected to the outside. As long as they found the water source, they could follow it to the exit.
“Drip”
A drop of water fell on Liao Feifan’s face. He lifted his hand to wipe it away.
Drip again. Something felt wrong, the water was warm. He opened his palm and shined the light. D*mn, it was blood. Liao Feifan almost jumped. If this were outside, he would never lose his composure like this. Being trapped in a cave made him panic. In his mind he cursed Liu Yue countless times.
Holding his breath, he shined the flashlight overhead. Red. Blood. Those dripping sounds weren’t water sources at all, they were blood, from the missing teammates.
He stopped, and without thinking, ran back, not caring about the people following him. They had followed the sound for so long; the water sound grew louder, clearly nearing the monster.
Afraid something was chasing him, Liao Feifan ran while turning corners. Not far away, he heard screams. In his mind he thought painfully: that d*mn monster, killing so many innocent people. If he survived, he would take care of the families of those who died.
Gradually the sounds behind him disappeared. Liao Feifan stopped, panting heavily. He looked back; nothing was chasing him. Once he could breathe again, he lifted his head to continue forward only to see something huge. That, that, was that a spider? At least three to four times the size of a human. He turned his head and ran to the side.
Qi Yue looked at the scenery near the exit and chuckled, “The stars are really beautiful tonight.”
He was met with a fierce glare from Tang Ke. Looking toward Lin Yuze, he saw Lin Yuze give him a meaningful smile. Qi Yue shuddered involuntarily and quickly withdrew his gaze.
Lin Yuze was very satisfied with Qi Yue’s reaction. Knowing he was scared was good. He would deal with him later.
They were getting closer to the exit. Da da, da da, a long string of heavy running footsteps came from behind.
Looking at the front, Liao Feifan felt relieved. Heaven must be helping a good person like him, he actually ran into Qi Yue’s group and even found the exit.
A bad scene suddenly flashed in Yan Bin’s mind, a future scene seen with his precognition ability. Everyone was wrapped by a huge spider, from feet to head, eyes and mouth, until they stopped breathing.
“Run, run outside!”
Everyone broke into a sprint toward the exit, not caring about anything else. Closer, closer, only one meter left.
“Get down.” Yan Bin shouted a warning.
Hearing it, Qi Yue and the others quickly dropped to the ground. One ability user didn’t react and kept running. Puchi. A long white thread-like object pierced through that ability user’s chest.
Another deadly silk shot from behind. Crash, the top of the cave entrance collapsed, blocking the exit tightly without even a crack.
Turning back, they saw a huge… d*mn, what was that? A spider? The monster slowly crawled forward. Eight legs. D*mn it, this was a mutated spider. How did it get so big? Those scythe-like claws made their hearts tremble.
Looking at the person squeezing into their group, people became furious. D*mn Liao Feifan, he actually brought the monster right to them. Despicable.
The mutated spider’s huge body blocked the whole passage. Going back was impossible. The ability users were trapped in a dead end.
Seeing the spider getting closer, everyone activated their abilities.
Fire, lightning, wind, ice.
But the mutated spider remained completely unharmed. Only fire abilities worked against the silk it spat out, only fire could burn it. Other abilities had no effect.
The mutated spider began spitting silk continuously at the group. If they weren’t careful, their hands or feet would be bound. The more silk it spat, the more people got caught. Before fire ability users could burn the silk binding them, new silk would already be wrapped around them.
Tang Ke yanked Qi Yue behind him to shield him. Plants wrapped around the spider, binding vines tied the mutated spider in place. Before anyone could celebrate, the spider easily slashed the vines apart with its scythe-like claws.
“Chi”
A strand of silk shot toward Tang Ke. He couldn’t dodge. It wrapped around his hand. Chi chi, his feet were wrapped too.
D*mn d*mn d*mn.
Qi Yue shot madly at the mutated spider, but it was useless. The spider’s shell was unbelievably hard, it couldn’t be pierced.
The mutated spider noticed the one attacking it. Chi, a silk strand shot toward Qi Yue.
A figure jumped over, knocking Qi Yue to the ground. Qi Yue staggered, pushed back by the impact and fell. The silk meant for him wrapped around the waist of the person who had jumped, Yan Bin.
Qi Yue sat on the ground, looking at the spot he had been standing. Yan Bin’s lower body was now wrapped in silk.
“Enter the space.” Yan Bin’s gaze was sharp as an eagle, fierce and penetrating.
Qi Yue threw aside the energy gun, pulled out a knife, and cut the silk around Yan Bin with force, then rushed toward Tang Ke.
Another silk strand shot toward Qi Yue’s back. Tang Ke struggled and lunged forward, shielding Qi Yue beneath him; the silk wrapped around him instead.
Han Fei had no time to take care of Qi Yue. He was nonstop burning the silk shooting at everyone and the silk binding others.
“Qi Yue, get the h*ll into the space.” Han Fei cursed.
“D*mn d*mn d*mn, if you want to go into the space, go yourself, stop controlling me.” Qi Yue snapped back. How could he run away alone and leave everyone behind? Gripping his knife, he kept cutting the silk on top of Tang Ke. But more and more silk came, no matter how much he cut.
“Shut up!” A roar cut through Qi Yue’s frantic rhythm.
Qi Yue looked toward the source of the voice, his eyes a bit blurry, feeling wronged and wanting to argue.
“Go in, listen.” Lin Yuze softened his voice, his dark eyes fixed on Qi Yue, filled with pleading.
Plop, a tear slid from the corner of Qi Yue’s eye.
He tilted his head and looked around. By the firelight, almost everyone was wrapped by the spider’s silk. Some had their feet bound, some their hands, some half their bodies, some completely wrapped from head to toe. Some even had their whole face tightly wrapped. The mutated spider kept spitting silk.
Gritting his teeth, he entered the space.
Back pressed against the space’s wall, he slowly sat down, his face wet.
He wiped it, but new tears kept falling.
Clenching his fists, he pounded the ground beneath him, his body numb, unable to feel the pain anymore.
He let go, body collapsing softly. His hand dropped and brushed against his pocket. Unconsciously, he reached in and pulled out the clear crystal core.
