Chapter 46

Closing off his five senses and steadying his mind, Pei Yunshu listened quietly as Sect Leader Lingye’s voice echoed throughout the peak, without glancing at the people around him.

He had initially thought it would be challenging, but now that he was doing it, he realized it was simpler than he had imagined.

No need for words, no need to get close to others. Pei Yunshu even found a certain comfort in this state.

After pulling Yuncheng to the side and ensuring that other Junior Brothers kept an eye on him, the Sect Leader’s Senior Brother approached Pei Yunshu. He looked at his bright and clear eyes with an apologetic tone, “Yunshu, after the Grand Cultivation Event is over, I will speak on your behalf.”

The Grand Cultivation Event would last for seven days, and during these seven days, dealing with Yuncheng’s situation would be quite challenging.

Pei Yunshu nodded in response, saying, “Alright.”

After the Grand Cultivation Event ended, their Sect Leader’s Senior Brother would not have to speak on his behalf anymore. He had already discussed with Bai Lige and the others that they would leave on the seventh day of the competition when everyone would be busy.

The Grandmaster didn’t want him to remember the scene of him crushing the sect’s wooden plaque, nor did he want him to leave the sect. That meant being extremely careful, not revealing anything amiss before his departure.

The Sect Leader Senior Brother breathed a sigh of relief after seeing him nod. He glanced behind him at Yuncheng with fellow disciples who had surrounded him, his eyes fixed on Yunxhu. In those dark eyes, emotions swirled like a tempest, making it difficult to discern.

He furrowed his brows, then turned to Pei Yunshu and said, “Junior Brother, how about you stay by my side for the next few days? If anyone dares to bully you again, just let me handle it.”

He made a move to take Pei Yunshu with him, but Yunjing suddenly spoke up, “Sect Leader Senior Brother, aren’t you forgetting that I’m still here?”

Yunjing had always been composed and responsible in his actions. Their Sect Leader Senior Brother chuckled heartily and said, “If you hadn’t spoken up just now, I might have forgotten about you. When Yuncheng went berserk just now, why didn’t you try to stop him?”

Eldest Senior Brother lowered his gaze and, after a while, forced a bitter smile. “Junior Brother was stunned, and he hadn’t realized what was happening until Yuncheng was dragged away.”

Their Sect Leader Senior Brother contemplated for a moment and then turned to Pei Yunshu. “Let’s have Junior Brother Yunshu make the decision. I’ve been away from the sect for quite some time, so Junior Brother Yunshu may not be familiar with me. Being with me might make Junior Brother uncomfortable. If Junior Brother Yunshu wants to stay here, then Yunjing can pay more attention. If Junior Brother wants to be with me, I can share some interesting stories from my time away. Junior Brother should be planning to leave the sect to cultivate soon, right?”

Before Pei Yunshu could respond, Yunjing’s voice suddenly turned serious. “He should stay with me.”

Sect Leader Senior Brother was taken aback.

A sense of resistance suddenly surged from the depths of Pei Yunshu’s heart. He had acted aloof earlier, as if he truly didn’t care. But at this moment, an inexplicable feeling of disgust arose within him. He hadn’t even made a decision yet, but it seemed that others were already deciding for him?

His Qingyue Sword trembled slightly in his hand, reminding him not to get agitated. Pei Yunshu suppressed these emotions and replied, “Since Sect Leader Senior Brother has said so, then I will be with you.”

Yunjing’s hand trembled violently.

Junior Brother’s memories had been sealed, but they were only sealed regarding his intention to leave the sect. What about the more than twenty years of memories he had accumulated during that time? Under the removal of the emotion string, did Junior Brother not even trust their Senior Brother?

His mind was in turmoil, and his temples throbbed. The veins on the back of his clenched hand were bulging terribly.

“Junior Brother,” he thought his voice should be steady and reliable at this moment, but only after it had left his mouth did he realize that his tone was pitiful, like a beggar. “Junior Brother, stay by your senior brother’s side.”

Upon hearing this, Pei Yunshu finally turned to look at him.

The Sect Leader Senior Brother also turned to look and was horrified. He exclaimed, “Yunjing, you—”

Yunjing’s eyes were bloodshot, and he seemed to have not heard the exclamation. His gaze remained fixed on Pei Yunshu, filled with a pleading expression.

It appeared he was subtly exhibiting signs of falling into a demonic state!

The Sect Leader Senior Brother’s face turned pale. He didn’t care whether other sects would notice; he grabbed Yunjing and tried to lift him onto the sword, intending to take him to the high platform to find their master. However, Yunjing shook off his hand and stubbornly gazed at Pei Yunshu. “Junior Brother.”

The fellow disciples of the Shanshui Sect had long heard about Yunjing’s stubbornness on the Endless Peak. The jesting saying among them was that he was like an ox, not turning back until he hit a wall.

Sect Leader Senior Brother and everyone else turned to look, and the senior brother was horrified. “Yunjing, you—”

Yunjing’s black eyes were bloodshot. He seemed oblivious to the exclamation, his eyes fixed on Pei Yunshu, filled with a pleading look.

It appeared as if he was entering a demonic state!

The Senior Brother’s face changed color. Disregarding whether other sects might notice, he grabbed Yunjing and mounted his sword, intending to rush to the high platform to find their Grandmaster. However, Yunjing broke free from his grasp, staring persistently at Pei Yunshu. “Junior Brother.”

The Senior Brother and Junior Brothers of Shanshui Sect had long heard of Yunjing’s obstinacy. They often joked that he was like an ox—stubborn until he hit a wall.

This kind of disposition, they had always believed, would allow him to achieve great things in cultivation due to his unwavering determination and exceptional talent.

However, Sect Leader Senior Brother was now deeply alarmed. He realized that the more stubborn one’s nature, the easier it was to cultivate attachments.

Pei Yunshu was also taken aback. Without hesitation, he stepped onto the Senior Brother’s flying sword and said, “Senior Brother, let’s go.”

The moment Pei Yunshu boarded the sword, Yunjing smiled and his bloodshot eyes receded like a tide, returning to a calm expression. In an instant, all signs of the demonic state had vanished.

Junior Brother was still worried about him.

He appeared normal now, just as he did on any other day. However, Sect Leader Senior Brother’s expression grew more serious, and his flying sword swiftly headed towards the high platform.

Third Senior Brother remained in place. After coming to his senses, he tossed his folding fan into the air, then stepped onto it and followed the others.

Upon seeing his Biggest Disciple leading the group of Junior Brothers in tow, Sect Leader Lingye, who was on the high platform, furrowed his brows and sensed that something was amiss. When the group arrived, he asked, “What has happened?”

Sect Leader Senior Brother stepped forward and spoke in a low voice to his Master, his face serious.

He used soundproofing magic, so Pei Yunshu couldn’t hear what he said, but he knew the gist of it. He joined his Senior Brother and Third Senior Brother behind Ling Qing Daoist Spiritual Master, bowing respectfully to their Grandmaster and other senior figures.

Since their Grandmaster was right in front of him, Pei Yunshu was completely focused on pretending to have had his “emotions” drained away. He met Zhuyou’s gaze but maintained a neutral expression.

His gaze was calm and emotionless, directed at the ground.

His intuition told him not to be discovered by the Grandmaster.

If he were to be discovered, he didn’t know what the Grandmaster might do.

Ling Qing Daoist Spiritual Master’s brows furrowed as well. He looked at Yunjing and asked, “What has happened?”

Yunjing wore a look of shame on his face and, Third Senior Brother taking a step forward, whispered to Ling Qing Daoist Spiritual Master, “Senior brother just… exhibited signs of demonic possession.”

Ling Qing Daoist Spiritual Master’s expression froze.

Not far away, Sect Leader Lingye’s countenance also darkened.

What they were saying couldn’t escape the ears of Venerable Wuwang.

Venerable Wuwang’s expression grew colder, and Pei Yunshu felt a gentle force surrounding him, pushing him behind Venerable Wuwang.

After securing Pei Yunshu behind him, Venerable Wuwang turned and asked, “Are you alright?”

While the other disciples had just experienced demonic possession, he was asking if Pei Yunshu was okay.

Third Senior Brother sneered coldly. The Grandmaster had entered the “Dao of Ruthlessness,” but he feared there was more than a little filth in his heart.

Why had only Pei Yunshu’s emotion string been taken away? And why was the Grandmaster showing so much concern for him? Could it be that, because he followed the Dao of Ruthlessness, he couldn’t obtain Pei Yunshu’s affection, so he wanted to prevent others from doing so as well?

Malevolence grew in his heart, even though he knew this was their Grandmaster. But at this moment, he couldn’t stop these malicious thoughts.

He shielded his Junior Brother, and as fellow men, a simple act revealed his possessive intent toward his Junior Brother, which was quite irksome.

Pei Yunshu calmly shook his head when asked if he was alright.

Venerable Wuwang, with a restrained expression, shifted his gaze away. With a wave of his sleeve, they were suddenly in a different dimension.

Although they were still on the viewing platform, the surrounding air rippled like water, isolating Sect leader Lingye along with Ling Qing Daoist Spiritual Master and his disciples.

Ling Qing Daoist Spiritual Master’s face darkened. “Yunjing, what’s going on!”

In this quiet world, no one from the outside could peek inside, nor could they hear their voices. There was complete silence. Ling Qing Daoist Spiritual Master’s words, full of anger and disbelief, were crystal clear to everyone.

Zhuyou, standing beside them, remained expressionless but had his eyes fixed on Pei Yunshu.

However, after a short while, he looked away. He remembered Pei Yunshu’s warning not to stare, or his heart would beat too fast.

Zhuyou wasn’t interested in these people. He was thinking about how to get his hands on the red powder.

He also wanted Pei Yunshu to see how his heart raced when they were together, but he didn’t want Pei Yunshu to think it was due to the powder. That would greatly upset him.

Unaware of Zhuyou’s thoughts, Pei Yunshu kept his head down, standing quietly behind Venerable Wuwang.

Yunjing heard their Master’s question, bowed his head to pay respect, then turned to Venerable Wuwang and asked in a calm and respectful tone, “Grandmaster, did you truly remove all of Pei Yunshu’s emotions?”

Ling Qing Daoist Spiritual Master was taken aback.

Venerable Wuwang’s long eyelashes fluttered, and he said in a low voice, “I personally removed his emotion string.”

Half of a string of emotions.

But this half-string of emotions had severed their connections.

Perhaps the remaining fragment of emotional connection was only a compassionate feeling unrelated to love, akin to how one would feel towards plants and trees. For Pei Yunshu, anyone, including Ling Qing, would likely become mere strangers.

Not to mention this newly acquired little junior brother, let alone himself.

Pei Yunshu wouldn’t wrap his arms around anyone’s neck again, softly calling out with a flushed face.

A profound sense of desolation washed over him. Venerable Wuwang swallowed the sorrow and closed his eyes, silently reciting a clear heart mantra in his heart.

His expression remained as cold as snow, and his words were just as heartless.

“Yunshu has become without emotion.” Eldest Senior Brother smirked. “Grandmaster, why did you remove Junior Brother’s emotion string?”

Grandmaster’s face grew even colder. “It is for his cultivation.”

Eldest Senior Brother looked in Pei Yunshu’s direction again. No matter what they said, Junior Brother showed no reaction. It was as if he wouldn’t change his expression no matter what they did or said.

His beautiful face was frozen, as if covered in ice and snow.

“Junior Brother,” he called out. “Junior Brother Yunshu.”

Pei Yunshu raised his gaze to look at him.

“Is it true,” he repeated Yuncheng’s question, his voice trembling and a hint of a bloody smell in his mouth, “that you don’t even have the slightest emotion for me?”

Upon hearing these words, Pei Yunshu’s mind flashed with an image.

He was in a small courtyard, watching his senior brother fly overhead on his sword.

“Senior Brother!” he exclaimed in joy, shouting loudly. “Eldest Big Brother!”

His senior brother, who appeared like a celestial being in the sky, glanced down at him, and he clearly saw him, but his senior brother replied, “Who’s calling me?”

He clenched his hand in his sleeve. Meeting Yunjing’s gaze, he calmly said, “Junior Brother was just spaced out. Were you calling me, Senior Brother?”
