Rebirth in the Apocalypse: The Peach Blossom Debt Chapter 88

The vehicle they were riding in was being driven by a soldier who didn’t look very old. Although his appearance still looked a bit youthful, his manner was very steady.

From midnight to dawn, from dawn to the blazing sun, from the blazing sun to sunset, they had been in danger the entire time. The long tail behind them followed tightly, and the atmosphere was extremely tense.

After rushing on the road for so long, the team had already pulled some distance away from the zombie tide, but still couldn’t relax. The massive zombie horde could still be faintly seen within their line of sight.

Zombies kept emerging from the surroundings along the way to attack their convoy. This was far too abnormal. Their minds had been tense for too long, and everyone looked somewhat exhausted. Fortunately, they were almost at their destination.

The group that took the highway had completely lost contact with them several hours ago. Chances were high that they were doomed.

Another small wave of zombies came toward them. Seeing the car that had broken down due to long hours of driving and crashed into a roadside tree, forced to stop, before the others could react, the vehicle was instantly swallowed by zombies. This was already the second car that had met with disaster. In front of tireless zombies, humans appeared so pale and powerless.

Up ahead was the place. Once they turned into this fork in the road, not far ahead would be the territory village. It was surrounded by mountains on three sides; from afar, the mountains were lush and green, stretching endlessly, and the valley formed a giant U-shape.

When they saw the tall rising wall, they finally let out a faint breath of relief, but they still couldn’t lower their guard. The zombie tide was getting closer and closer to this place.

“Qi Yue, go in with them first.” Lin Yuze said as he fastened his gun at his waist.

“I’m staying, together.” Qi Yue looked up at Lin Yuze, then lowered his head again to fiddle with the weapon in his hands, glancing at the rear of the vehicle from time to time.

Hearing Qi Yue’s words, Lin Yuze’s hands trembled a little. He clenched his fists. “Be careful later.”

Tang Ke also gave Qi Yue a deep look. He didn’t try to persuade him. Qi Yue’s temperament was soft, yet strangely persistent.

Some of the people entered the safe zone within the walls, while the others stayed at the intersection. They needed to take out the high-level zombies at the front of the horde; otherwise, before the zombies gathered, the temporary safe zone would be destroyed, making everything they had done meaningless. It would be difficult to leave safely. They had no choice but to fight.

Inside the wall, helicopters were already prepared for takeoff at any moment, waiting for the arrival of the zombie horde.

The moon was unusually bright. Han Fei stood on the wall, looking at the vehicle not far ahead or more accurately, the familiar yet unfamiliar figure beside it. His heart was full of rage. D*mn it, wasn’t he afraid of dying? Why didn’t he go inside?

Liu Yue had originally planned to enter the walled area with another group, but she changed her mind at the last moment. Heaven really did favor her, her ability had returned. Although she was a bit worried, her overwhelming jealousy took over. She couldn’t stand watching Qi Yue living so well; only misery suited him.

Liu Yue wore an eye-catching white dress, standing delicately among the ability users, accepting protection without guilt. She was a healing-type ability user, after all, someone who needed to be protected.

The overwhelming stench filled the air, making people feel nauseated. High-level ability users were taking out the high-level zombies within the horde. Various abilities burst forth, dazzling to the eye: earth, water, fire.

Everything was going smoothly. The leading high-level zombies were only level three or four, not very high, and were quickly almost cleared. Looking at the dense zombie horde behind, as soon as the retreat command was shouted, everyone quickly ran toward the isolation zone. There was no time to get in vehicles. Ability users on the wall released abilities to cover their retreat.

Seeing the zombies gathering around them in increasing numbers, Liao Feifan became uneasy. He’d had this feeling halfway through, why did it seem like the zombies were attacking more fiercely in their direction? And the zombies’ levels were higher too.

“Yueyue, hurry!” Tang Ke shouted Qi Yue’s name loudly; he had already gone through the gate.

Qi Yue aimed at a level-five zombie in the horde. “You go first, I’ll be right there.”

Bang. A direct hit. He rolled aside to dodge a zombie pouncing at him. Bang. He took out that zombie as well.

In just a blink, distance had grown between them. Seeing Qi Yue not far away, Lin Yuze grew anxious and shouted, “Qi Yue, Qi Yue!”

“Stop freaking yelling, go in first.” Qi Yue fired at the zombies around him, aiming at another level-five zombie.

Just as everyone was gathered at the gate and about to go inside through the open entrance, a strong sense of danger swept over them. Liao Feifan followed the horde with his eyes and saw a red-clothed zombie staring directly at his position. Above level eight, he couldn’t tell exactly. Its threat was immense. Cold sweat instantly streamed down his forehead.

A thunderous boom erupted, and a thick wall of earth blocked the entire gate. Tang Ke and Lin Yuze watched helplessly as Qi Yue was sealed outside.

Tang Ke went crazy, slapping the wall that had suddenly appeared, shouting, “Qi Yue! Qi Yue!”

The wall blocked the entire gate tightly, leaving no gap. An ability had been released, it was incredibly solid. What the h*ll was this?

Lin Yuze’s eyes blurred instantly. He wiped his face hard and dragged Tang Ke. “Stop hitting it, get on the wall!”

Tang Ke was dragged by Lin Yuze, his eyes blood-red.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

After taking down several zombies lunging at him, Qi Yue tilted his head toward Yan Bin. “Why didn’t you go in? You clearly had a chance.” Don’t think he didn’t notice. Yan Bin had already gone inside the gate yet at the moment the giant wall appeared, he had run out again.

“If I said it was for you, would you believe me?” Yan Bin curled his lips slightly, completely unlike his usual style.

Qi Yue snorted. “Don’t think this will make me forgive you.”

Releasing abilities at the surrounding zombies, an air bubble burst and wiped out those closing in again. Standing beside Qi Yue, Yan Bin spoke slowly. Shouts, screams, and roars blended together. His voice was as low as always, yet Qi Yue clearly heard Yan Bin’s words.

Yan Bin said, “I’m not asking for your forgiveness. I just want to stay with you, even if it means dying.”

Qi Yue blinked hard. Why did this thug suddenly say something so sentimental? It even made him feel like crying. What was wrong with him? He clearly should hate this person.

The ability users blocked outside weren’t many. Their backs were pressed to the wall as the zombies surged toward them. Liao Feifan pulled Liu Yue behind him, protecting her.

Among these people, Yan Bin and Liao Feifan were the highest in ability level. Instinctively, they targeted the powerful, dangerous red-eyed zombie within the horde. Yet every attack they launched was dodged by the zombie’s quick movements.

Seeing the endless stream of approaching zombies, everyone trapped outside felt increasingly hopeless.

Drip, drip. Cold sweat slid down Yan Bin’s face. His precognition ability couldn’t foresee everything. He had stayed near Qi Yue the entire time, keeping watch. But Qi Yue’s sudden dodge just now had separated him from the two people guarding him. The sudden vision in front of him left him no time to think. There was only one thought, he had to stay by Qi Yue’s side.

The roar of helicopter blades sounded overhead, and two soft ladders were thrown down.

Ability users below climbed up one after another. After taking down another zombie lunging at them, Yan Bin grabbed the swaying ladder and urged Qi Yue to go up.

Qi Yue glanced at Yan Bin and was about to reach for the ladder when his hand grabbed empty air.

Liao Feifan held the ladder and handed it to Liu Yue. “Little Yue, go up quickly.” Then he turned to the two of them. “Sorry, I think ladies should go first. Don’t you think you should show some gentlemanly virtue? How can you go before a woman?” These words were directed at Qi Yue.

Yan Bin shot him a cold look but said nothing. This wasn’t the time to argue. He fired an ability toward Liao Feifan. Liao Feifan dodged in shock as the air bubble grazed his face and struck the zombie horde behind him. Seeing Liao Feifan’s embarrassed appearance, Yan Bin sneered coldly.

Qi Yue gripped his knife, slicing off the hand of a zombie grabbing at him. The rotten limb thudded to the ground. He pulled back his knife and kept shooting zombies.

Watching Liu Yue climb the ladder, Qi Yue frowned. His ability seemed to be wearing off. He raised his hand and locked onto Liu Yue.

Liu Yue held the ladder proudly and began climbing upward. She had barely climbed a few steps when a gust of air shot toward her.

With a scream, Liu Yue clutched her hand and fell to the ground. The ladder was cut clean in half.

On the other side of the helicopter, zombies had already begun climbing the remaining ladder. Seeing the best timing had passed, the helicopter circled above a few times before rising higher and flying away.

The surrounding zombies smelled blood and grew even more frenzied. Seeing the zombies around her, Liu Yue screamed in terror and attempted to enter her space. But unexpectedly, the ability she had only moments ago no longer responded.

Liao Feifan barely dodged the red-eyed zombie’s ability. A gust of cold air swept by him, and the zombie appeared right in front of him. Too fast, at least level eight, maybe nine.

Looking at the zombie, he felt a strange sense of familiarity. No time to think. Driven by survival instinct, Liao Feifan grabbed the person next to him and shoved them toward the red-eyed female zombie.

Liu Yue stood beside Liao Feifan, clutching her bleeding hand. She had no time to react before she was shoved forward forcefully.

A sharp ripping pain burst across her shoulder. Seeing the wound, Liu Yue stared at Liao Feifan in disbelief.

Liao Feifan looked regretful. “Little Yue, I didn’t mean to.”

Ah—

The red-eyed female zombie bit down on Liu Yue’s hand again. Taking advantage of the moment, Yan Bin released his ability. With a puff, a stream of air pierced directly into the zombie’s head.

The female zombie wearing torn red clothes, her small frame appearing frail, let out a roar. With one leap, she disappeared into the horde.

The wound was hideous, flesh turned outward. Seeing Liu Yue’s outstretched hand, Liao Feifan instinctively dodged. Liu Yue lunged at empty air.

“Qi Yue, get up here!”

A familiar voice sounded overhead, and several rope hooks were thrown down from above.
